Because a true champion is never satisfied with the past. Henderson has been a two time olympian and is one of the most decorated wrestlers in history, and I'm sure Cael would have a great carreer in the UFC. It's just something else to conquer that's all.
wow so i take it you have 4 highschool titles and 4 NCAA titles and a olympic gold medal. You must be a "true" champion then huh? Cael really does not fit UFC or MMA i don't disrespect UFC its pretty sick but like college wrestlers they're not like MMA
mikey - First off. What does my credentials have to do with my opinion? Do you have any of the above? When I "True" Champion, my point is that it's obvious that Cael has more than proven himself in Wrestling. I just think he should expand into the octagon.. .that's all. I'm not taking away by any means the amazing things, he's been able to accomplish. I would love to see him learn some standup and some bjj, though. I'm sure with his natural ability, he'd learn very quickly and dominate.
Cael is already had enough I think...I really think thats why he's not going to Beijing this year, he doesn't feel like training anymore is the only reason I can see, and I can't blame him 25 years of working your butt off can get old. Also I'm sure he's now dedicating his life coaching the ISU team. I think he would do very good in MMA but it would take some time to become acquainted with it. It would probably take him 4-5 years just to become able to be in the caliber of the UFC.
So then once he was in the UFC he'd have what...4-5 years of in the octagon, I don't think it would be worth it. Anything else he would do would tarnish his reputation even though he is the greatest...I'd rather be called a 4x NCAA champ and Olympic champ rather than a 4x NCAA champ and Olympic champ and then switched over to MMA and had an average record...

i agree with you. My next question is, why would he not go to Beinjing? Did he not qualify or did he not even try? I mean, Dan Gable won 2 gold medals. I guess, with Cael not trying for two, that makes Gable the greatest wrestler. Darn, I think Cael could've done it too.
Like I said before...I'm sure Cael is tired of busting his butt when he's already proved he's been the best, anything but a gold medal would be a dissapointment to him. I really am sad that he isn't going to Beijing but he has his reasons and I'm sure that they are better than any reason we can come up with for him to wrestle in Beijing, It's his life let him do what he wants either way he is the greatest ever.

Again, calling him the greatest ever is speculation. Dan Gable lost one match his entire collegiate carreer, Then went on to win two gold medals. Cael has one gold medal. I'm sure Gable would trade that one loss for 2 gold medals anyday, don't you think that makes up for that loss? IMO Gable is the greatest ever.
I mean Dan Gable won 1 Gold and 1 World Championship....John Smith 4 worlds + 2 Golds. Was the best in the world lb for lb for six years. Won 1st world before his senior year of college. I think is the best.
"All Cael Sanderson has is the low single and the ankle pick." "Coach, I can't stop the low single or the ankle pick!"

Cael seems not to want to hurt people; UFC is either in someone's blood or not. What's in it for the guy? Money?
He's a coach; he has a job.

no way should he be in the ufc. people see him as almost invincible. transition into mma would see him get torn up.

I'd love to see Cael in the UFC. that's the obvious next step for him. He needs to talk to Randy Couture and Dan Henderson.

Why should he bother? 4 NCAA titles and Olympic gold are not enough? He's happy in Wrestling; that's his life.
