Shes Queen of other countries, known as the Commonwealth. If we had no Queen it would mean changes to alot of countries. Shes Head of State of other countries, such as: - Australia - New Zealand - Canada - Jamaica Changes if we got rid of the Queen: - What would happen to the Grenadier Guards? Who guard Buckingham Palace? No one? - What would happen to The Church of England. - What would happen to the Government system? - Who would be the Head of the Armed Forces?
Monarchy is frankly nothing for the modern world. In the future hopefully this archaic system will be swept away from the world all together. Monarchy is the same as dictatorship and the only reason that queen Elisabeth doesn't oppress people like her forefathers did is because of democracy and human rights.
. She is Head of the Armed Forces. This means that she declares war with advice of the government. She also declares when the war is over.
She is Head of the Church of England. She appoints Archbishops and Bishops with advice from the Prime Minister. Government Duties - Every day she gets red boxes containing documents and reports from government ministers and commonwealth officials. She has to read them and some need to be signed.
The queen is the biggest benefit sponge in our country. We dont live in a feudal society anymore. We should get rid of this wasteful; undemocratic; anachronistic monarchy and open the royal grounds up to the public for tourism. France does this and makes more money from tourism than any other country in the world.
I wish that the Monarchy Took over the armed forces and lead a Coup d'état on Parliment,The news coverage would be great, all the world would talk about it, and the monarchy would become useful again
The Saxons and Anglo's came from Germany and south Scandinavia. Does that make me German? The answer is No. Is the queen German because George the third came from the house of Hanover. The answer is B... No.
it did however bring in a lot of money for the local area due to tourism and thousands upon thousands constantly in the high street. i like to see the good in life :D but im not really into these germans
she giving jubilee medals to serving troops she cant even tell goverment there wrong and all her troops who have served since her reign from 1952 till now should get it a disgrace
People often seem to forget that the monarchy was over-thrown by Oliver Cromwell, and following his death the nation wished to reinstate it. You can argue about whether or not it creates or costs money to have it, but I think Paxman summed up its most important benefits and the fact of the matter is that many people in Britain like having, and want to have a monarchy as it is an integral part of 'Britishness'.
Theres no point getting rid of the monarchy since they contribute a lot of money to the economy with their businesses and investments, it helps keep tourism up and is part of the national identity. I dont really see what upsides there are to getting rid of them.
1. The tourism argument is a fallacy, and an obvious one at that. An FOI request to Visit Britain has proved beyond any doubt that the references made in this regard are unsubstantiated nonsense. Everything points towards the monarchy actually LOSING us tourist revenue due to their occupation of places that could otherwise be open to visitors.
2. National identity? What, you define yourself based on a family that is unelected and has hundreds of millions of pounds when people are literally dying of poverty? That makes people bow to them and wears ridiculous symbols of oppression like crowns of jewels? That feast every night on the finest food while millions starve?
You need to adjust your thinking if that really is the case.
....another detatched from reality political commentator. This "More patriotic to be royalist" arguement is utter codswallop! Does it then, diminish Oliver Cromwell's status as an Englishman because he wasn't exactly pro-monarchist? I think not......
@rondog1973 But Cromwell declared himself Lord Protector and ruled as a king until his death, afterwards the monarchy was reinstated. So Cromwell was anti-monarchy but not anti-absolutism. The monarchy is less important now of course, but as a symbol of a nation it is steeped in mystique and personality. While Britain could survive without the monarchy, and it is not unpatriotic to suggest so, the question is what fills the void that removal of this symbol leaves behind
the louvre used to be a royal palace...still how many more tourists does it attract more than the royal family...oh wait a second...
it seems like the french tourist industry got a boost from losing its monarchy. im not saying we should kill the royals like the french did, far from it, im simply suggesting that the "royals bring tourists" argument is moot.
Paxman is disengenous to compare a parliamentary monarchy with an executive presidency. The real comparison is with our neighbour in Ireland and Germany which have ceremonial presidencies.

The royal wedding has virtually no significance..If your an individual like Jeremy Paxton who has sold his English identidy to the devil.Paxton hates conservatives and anybody on the right, especially patriots. He defends pakis and niggers on every opportunity he gets.Personally I think the royal wedding is a "very" important event. That symbolizes white English history & culture. It's not something that blacks,indians/pakistanis, jews or commies like paxton can learn to respect to or relate to.
Personally I think it would be very difficult to have an elected head of state for the UK they would inevitably come from the political arena it could not be a Scot nor a Welsh person, even if the UK should split up who would be worthy of representing each constituent part, may be best to leave well alone.
I'm Scottish and I love being part of Britain, but in a modern day world with our great country going down the toilet, I cannot believe we still keep these parasites. Okay, it's tradition and it's party of our history, but part of our history was that we never wore shoes, wore animal fur and washed our clothes in the nearest river. Times change and its about time we do . . . .
"Yeah perhaps in the 15,16 century but not in the 20th" you must live in a bubble. You can read hitler's own book. Christians kill today in the name of their 'devout' beliefs. Go and read wht the pledge was to join the nazis. Educate yourself.
The ‘politics of envy’ argument is a non sequitur which relies on the absurd assumption that all people think alike and base their arguments solely on the acquisition of personal wealth and privilege.
@andyfoxy1 Fair point well made sir, but its the bloodline which is important to these people, not the nationality.I must disagree with your previous comment though-I am very proud to be English, not so proud that we allow this bunch of hoorays to demand our subservience simply because of parentage. However,if the only alternative is President Cameron, then...'God Save The Queen'!
To be anti royalty is to be anti British/English. The queen is a symbol of our nation. It's funny about all these people scream that they "tax us" when they're millions of people leaching of f the government claiming job seekers allowance. Also they're not out for their personal gain unlike politicians of parliament. I believe that the only reason for someone to dislike them is that they are green with envy and have no pride.
@andyfoxy1 Maybe some people are anti monarchist is because it is un-democratic and the only reason they have power in the first place is that they happen to be descended from people who took land from the weak and killed others who stood in their way. Although I'll admit I'd rather have a monarch than most republican systems I see.
@andyfoxy1 "To be anti royalty is to be anti British/English." on the contrary,To choose a head of state, on religion, sex, and birth is shameful in the 21st century. Why else do we ask footballers to be moral mentors? because the royal family, clergy, and politicians fail :-))
@SOAS007 To be anti royalty is to be anti English. I have explained my reasons why in my last message. I believe your hatred for religion; well lets say you're generally closed minded to anything religious or spiritual (after visiting your profile and learning what you have been up too) which has given me the stance that you have a strong fascist right wing view on this subject. I have ignored your lack of patriotism; envious ways and have concluded that you have a lack of love in your life.
@andyfoxy1 "To be anti royalty is to be anti English. " this is just an assertion. You decare that republican viewpoints make you unpatriotic.! ? ,and you think Its me that is fascist.!! ? So the USA, France Russia & other republics who have got rid of their royal family or never had one make those people anti patriotic.
I could say if you don't support the English football team you are not patriotic.! That is just as valid.!
@andyfoxy1 "well lets say you're generally closed minded to anything religious or spiritual "
Or lets say that I am open minded to evidence and reason, and unsubstantiated, supernatural claims do not impress me. Especially when there are so many factuel historical errors, biblical contridictions, and these are never preached to the 'open minded' flock.! ( or sheep) or any other name for the closed minded/! :-)
@SOAS007 USA never had a royal family - they were a colony not a kingdom. I can feel this underlining hatred for England. Have you ever celebrated St Gorges day - have you ever sung God Save the Queen? I think you're a troll and a jealous one at that. Christ you're this reason why this country tearing itself apart. If you like evidence so much prove now that they're is no god - you can't. You know, you can believe in god without believing in holy scriptures. I hope you know that right.
@andyfoxy1 " you moron of a troll. " obviously I conclude you are about 16. Read what I wrote . I listed republics, "that have got rid of their royals, OR NEVER HAD ONE> . ! "
@andyfoxy1 " you moron of a troll. " obviously I conclude you are about 16. Read what I wrote . I listed republics, "that have got rid of their royals, OR NEVER HAD ONE> . ! "
@andyfoxy1 " you moron of a troll. " obviously I conclude you are about 16. Read what I wrote . I listed republics, "that have got rid of their royals, OR NEVER HAD ONE> . ! "
@andyfoxy1 "Have you ever celebrated St Gorges day - have you ever sung God Save the Queen? " When I was a child.! Do you know that St George came from modern day turkey, and is the patron saint of many countries, and even some greek islands. ( he is no more English that Patrick is Irish). I don't accept any claims that there is ANY god, so how could she save anyone?
@andyfoxy1 " I believe that the only reason for someone to dislike them is that they are green with envy and have no pride. " The royal family over all its history has many things not to be proud of.
I guess people that don't support the english football team are envious of the players skills? I am not envious of the royal family. I used to work with Charles, and to be automatically given such a responsibilty is a cruel system, hence why they are a dysfunctional family.
@SOAS007The royal family has done more for this country than you will ever do. 'cruel system'- they have no power - everything they do is for their country -charity work, armed forces. Yes most people are envious of top class footballers - and if you don't SUPPORT you're country then you are against it. You are fascist, i've seen your comments - to say they're is no god to a believer you might as well be a nazi. The queen is head of state- means she's the leader/personification of England.
@andyfoxy1 " to say they're is no god to a believer you might as well be a nazi. " The nazi's had what emblazend on their belt buckles? To claim there is a god to a non believer is .....? Dual standards. I too served( with charles) , do charity work, and PAY TAXES, but have not privilages. It s not their personal fault that we have this ludicrous outdated system./!
@andyfoxy1 " You are clearly jealous" of what.!? You also acused me of being a Facist, a troll, and a Nazi because I don't believe in ANY god. Did you look up what the Nazi motto was on their belt buckles. ? You make a lot of unsupported accusations.
@SOAS007 You're a Nazi because you publicly speak out against god and religion (i.e like Hitler who killed of jews just because they were jews) . "do charity work, and PAY TAXES, but have not privileges" - this tells me you are jealous because you don't have the privileges. St Gorge is the patron saint of England - regardless of where he is from - if you don't celebrate him then your about as English as a kebab. I hope you don't call yourself English or even British because you disgust me
@SOAS007 You're a Nazi because you publicly speak out against god and religion (i.e like Hitler who killed of jews just because they were jews) . @andyfoxy1 "You're a Nazi because you publicly speak out against god and religion (i.e like Hitler who killed of jews just because they were jews) """ Your ignorance astounds me.!!! Hitler, A was a christian. and B the nazis had the words "GOD WITH US" in german emblased upon their belts.!!! You fail AGAIN.!
@SOAS007 You are stupid. Hitler hated jews just because they were jews. This is pretty simple in my eyes. Also the nazi's were religious? To what God did they prey to because they certainly weren't Christian due to there actions. Fuck Wit.
@andyfoxy1 ". Also the nazi's were religious?" Christians. practicing catholics many of the top slaughterers. the motto on their belts was god with us in german. Are you telling me that christians don't torture, or kill people in the name of christianity. Have you never engages with reality? :-)
@SOAS007 Yeah perhaps in the 15,16 century but not in the 20th. There is no way Hitler and his followers were devout Christian. It goes against everything they believe in. Do you understand that or are you slightly slow, lets say retarded for good times sake.
@andyfoxy1 " if you don't celebrate him then your about as English as a kebab. " :-) Or tikka masala, the national dish.! greeeks, Ethiopians, and other countries celebratate St George . What does that make them. Your logic will amuse as usual.
@SOAS007 You are vile. Do not call yourself English you fuck-wit. SO WHAT ST GEORGE IS CELEBRATED BY OTHER COUNTRIES HE STILL IS THE PATRON SAINT OF ENGLAND. Why do you not understand this? You stupid anti-English fuck. Calling Charles Darwin a Republican is dumb founded with no evidence - Henry the 8th was a king and did what he wanted - he was about as anti-British as Churchhill. As usual you're hatred for religion shines through the words you write - you are a racist and a fascist.
@andyfoxy1 "To be anti royalty is to be anti British/English. " Charles Dickens was a republican too. By your warped view anyone that doesn't agree with you is anti british. Was Henry 8th anti british. He got rid of the then established religion and married foreigners. There are so many more.
@andyfoxy1 HG Wells was also a republican. ( prince philip is related to a nazi, prince christopher von hesse. ) . Lists of republicans include famous writers, lawyers, QCS, peers, journalists, MPS, pop stars ( Bowie refused an obe), and even bishops.! All according ot andyfoxy anti british.!
@SOAS007 Your a disgrace to you're nation and a traitor. You are everything I hate. I quote = "do charity work, and PAY TAXES, but have not privileges" - You are jealous now go be jealous some where else. You have shown your true colours and now I have better things to do with my life than listen the most unpatriotic person I have ever encountered. I can't even imagine what you're parents must think.
@andyfoxy1 It is clear you have lost that argument. Being a republican does not not make you anti british, or a nazi, or a facist. You can support Elizibeth Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha if you want, but it does not make you more british.
Respond to this video... I quote = "do charity work, and PAY TAXES, but have not privileges" - You are jealous now go be jealous some where else scum. St George is the patron of England and the queen is the head of our state. SIMPLE.
@andyfoxy1 "Also they're not out for their personal gain unlike politicians of parliament." The royal family get far more than anyone.! Most members of parliament are able to earn more outside of politics.
@SOAS007 they get 30p per person for each year. People on job seeker allowance get over 50 pounds a week so shut the fuck up you jealous knob. . I quote = "do charity work, and PAY TAXES, but have not privileges" - You are jealous now go be jealous some where else scum. St George is the patron of England and the queen is the head of our state. SIMPLE.
@andyfoxy1 I don't get the feeling the British Empire wasn't really an empire of the British peope. Just more a way to establish contol over the world hah.
I just don't quite get the system of the monarchy in that it favours a particular bloodline and they have to stick to people of a certain background. There must be something more to it that we generally don't look into?
@sacredrealm You make no sense. " the British Empire wasn't really an empire of the British people." Huh what the hell are you going on about - are you stupid? We took 1/3 of the world over - on the backs British soldiers and explorers. You're every word is a betrayal to every fallen soldier who has died for their country. You're clear ignorance shines through and so does your lack of patriotic-ism.
@andyfoxy1 Of course people are "green with envy", what else do you expect? When people have such wealth and live in such opulence without actually doing anything for it, wouldn't we all be envious? And you say "leeching", well a significant amount do but some don't. For example, my father worked since he was 15 as a glazier and was laid off when he was 55, he was on job seekers for a couple of weeks. I think he more than earned his taxes back. I'm not anti-monarchy, nor am I "anti British".
@Traynor921 My point is, as a nation it is ironic if you moan about the royals receiving money from the state if people (commoners) do too. I'm not saying that's it wrong to be on benefit or people shouldn't receive help when they need it most but there A LOT of who take advantage of the system. My point was aimed at 'leeches'!
@andyfoxy1 Also, "anti British/English". You do realize they aren't exclusive to one another. If you're "anti-royalty" concept equates to anti British/English it should also apply to anti- Scots, Welsh, N. Irish, Canadian, Australian and just about every nation in the union, commonwealth and every other royal nation which is a ridiculous notion. The fundamental error with your assertion is that you generalize and claim to know what Britishness is in itself to call people "anti". You don't know.
@Traynor921 I understand where your coming from but I believe the Queen is a symbol - a personification of England and therefore any attack on her is an attack on England and not a symbol of other country's even if she is queen of many other countries because when you think of auz, Wales or Scotland you don't think of the Queen. You say that is a ridiculous notion that she is Queen of the commonwealth, Britain colonised many countries that became part of us but gradually got independence.
@andyfoxy1 First of all she isn't the Queen of England, she's the Queen of the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of England hasn't existed since before the union so you have no real justification to think of her as such. Just because you don't think of the Queen as the Queen of the Commonwealth nations, doesn't mean she isn't. Britain, yes Britain as you say, not just England, colonized many countries but they never became part of Britain, merely it's empire. It still doesn't answer the question.
@Traynor921 I never said she was just the Queen of England merely a symbol of England because she is English. The Queen is related to all European royalty for they wouldn't marry commoners and does have English in her as most of her ancestors were born in England. King George the third was English his father from the house of Hanover because the Stuarts bloodline died out. I don't think you asked a question.
@andyfoxy1 Also, indeed she is a symbol of Britain because she's been cultivated to appear so. If you look at her ancestry barely any is English, more German, little bit of Scots and many other nationalities.
@andyfoxy1 This country stands for the values of freedom, democracy, equality and tolerance that, by broad political consensus, are said to be at the heart of a modern Britain. The monarchy stands for none of these.
It is the monarchists who are least patriotic - they favour loyalty to a single privileged family over loyalty to our nation.
@londonthistle Bull shit. Total bull shit. 'monarchists who are least patriotic' - this tell me everything I need to know about you. 'single privileged family' - hint of jealousy? I favour my loyalty to my queen and not some jumped up egotistical cunt to who never keeps his word and only job is to get more votes rather than care for the public and hands out Referendums in important matters. That's why I love democracy (sarcasm)have you always been green twat? When I say green a mean jealous.
@andyfoxy1 You failed to address anything I said, but just tried to slander me. Your queen isn't accountable to you, nor wary of you. People do vote out politicians who don't keep their word, and I think someone born to rule is going to be slightly more egotistical than a representative of others. Your last point makes you seem anti-democratic, I don't like the current gov't or even the result of the last referendum but I love the fact that the majority chose it, and that's why I accept it.
@londonthistle You accept democracy because you're a sheepish fool to think that PM's work for the people of Britain. They don't they only work for themselves to gain power and money - The royal family give more to Britain than any Pm. Gordon Brown was a aggressive dictator behind the scenes. Ed millaband is head of labour even though we voted for David to be head because of the banks- we were plunged into the European union without voting. Is this ringing a bell. Pm's act more like royalty.
@londonthistle On a side note - I don't care what you think. You don't like the current gov't? Well that's democracy. My Queen is also your Queen you fucking moron.
@andyfoxy1 I said I don't like the current gov't but I love the fact that the majority chose it, you can take what I say out of context but all that does is make you appear ignorant. If the politicians were working for power and money they wouldn't become MPs, who for the work they do and skill they require get paid very little - which is why so many MPs come from rich backgrounds. The royal family don't give anything to Britain - they're benefit scroungers on a royal scale.
@londonthistle Right so they don't bring in millions in tourism and memorabilia? No of course not! (sarcasm). You gone bodmin, absolute fool. Yeah MP's don't get paid much, just over hundred thousand with travel expensive's, staff costs and costs to run their cabinet for free. Lets face a vast number has abused this power also (which is superfluously ridiculous) i.e by buying a moat a claiming it on expensive's, porn films and even an MP has gone to prison for such treasonous crimes.
@andyfoxy1 There is no evidence that the monarchy contributes to tourism on the contrary if all the palaces and grounds were open to the public like in France (which had 48.67m more tourists than us in 2010) we could have so much more potential. Of the top 20 UK attractions only one royal residence makes it on- no.17, windsor castle beaten by LEGOLAND at no.7. Tourism revenue is not only irrelevant to a debate about our constitution, the assumption that the monarchy promotes tourism is untrue.
@londonthistle correct - if that unelected silver-spoon brigade attract tourists, let the tourist board subsidise them instead of the taxpayer having to
Quote me a study that shows a clear and substantiated direct correlation between there being an ACTIVE reigning monarch and an increase in tourism. Lets start with this one. Good luck!
Also, we only found out that the MPs were abusing the system because they're elected reps. and have to be more open about where their money goes. If the Queen builds a moat or the Duke watches porn we don't realise that's where our money is going. They get paid just over £65,000 (not incl. taxes etc.) and are currently only given expenses for running an office and travel expenses - something that most people are provided for by their employers anyway. You're clutching at straws here.
@londonthistle Wait are you defending fat cats MP's who take advantage/lie/steal of all of us and then compare them to the royals? That is shameful and treasonous! The royal family takes the same about every year and what they do with their money is their business but on the subject with the fat cats who I owe no allegiance to0. who are all well off rich boys; to whom have the best education and have the tenacity to steal from us then have them defended by the least unpatriotic person .
@andyfoxy1 are you taking the mickey out of me? You're defending the royal family because they're not fat cats that you owe no allegiance to? that they're not well off or rich, have the best education and steal from us? I hope one day you realise the hypocrisy of your beliefs, until then search 'win the argument republic' and click on the first result. If you come up with something that isn't on there I'd like to know.
@andyfoxy1 Furthermore (a few factchecks), Gordon Brown can't be a literal dictator when there is parliament and the opposition party to keep him in check. The banks don't have a vote in labour leadership, that's done within the party. Also, Britain voted for EU membership in 1975. Can we switch to messaging? I'm sure it would benefit both of us and people just trying to enjoy the video, perhaps you could link me to an article that better articulates your point of view w/out personal attacks?
Don't be so stupid. Presidents don't enjoy the support of a broad political consensus unless appointed, thus removing the democratic element. A non-partisan, non-political head of state is the greatest gift a political system can bestow upon a nation, because it separates politicians from the grandiosity of office. It is no coincidence that Britain remained free of mainland European turbulence because we enjoyed constitutional evolution rather than revolution
@dan11009 Small businesses generally don't live off tourist money because they are on a local basis. How many corner shops, grocers, butchers, etc etc could you go to which make money off of tourists?
@Pawnbroker00 all i know is, the more tourist coming through the UK spending there money the better, I dont care if they are buying tic tac royal crap or cans of coke from corner stores. what would you rather have a massive disney land near london? or the queen?
@londonthistle What? The Queen has done more for her country than you could ever hope to do over the last 59 nearly 60 years. How dare you make such a ludicrous statement. Whilst I'm very opposed to practices such as hunting, I feel it is wrong to generalise such a statement.
@Mowens65 'I choose my friends for their good looks, my acquaintances for their good characters, and my enemies for their intellects. A man cannot be too careful in the choice of his enemies' - Oscar Wilde. Are playing the 'best quote' game? No wait 'Burn all bridges' - Genghis khan. I like that one.
@CmdrTobs Firstly the Spanish have a royal family so? A bit stupid? What would you know, your clearly not English or even British because no Brit would never like a video with the word soccer in it. Second when you're dealing with vast numbers of benefit scroungers on the dole about 250k taking over 50 quid a week while the royals may take just over 30 million a year off the people they also bring in cash through tourism.
@andyfoxy1 I say Spanish as they had that debate when Franco took over and horses didn't stop breeding, Bullfighting and Flamco didn't stop happening when the King was gone and the firmly remained Spanish.
"Brit would never like a video with the word soccer in it" - I'll take that as flippant.
"benefit scroungers" - Strawman, suggests that all of them have never worked:/
"royals may take just over 30 million" - Give me 30m a year and I too will bring in tourism.
@CmdrTobs To you I will say this... I care not for what you have to say though you make good points. I believe the number of people has risen on the dole to 2 and a half million. That's 2.5 million x £100 every two weeks. I wrote that because I don't know how the country can afford such expense and because I'm bored.
@andyfoxy1 It's only about 5 Billion a year. Well worth it to stop people who have lost there job having to sell almost everything they own like a car, mobile phone that will certainly prevent them finding work.
Don't confuse JSA with housing benefit, Family tax credits and so on that cost 10's of billions. JSA certainly saves money long term.
Swearing alegience or putting faith in a singular person MAY be fine IF that person can command respect. The present Queen can do this only because she is very bland. She's also blank canvas on which anyone can project any positive attribute. So people can say She's lovely without ever knowing her.
On to Charles. He has washed his dirty linen in public. His views on many issues are well known. This will cause problems as king. No wonder many royalists want the bland William to repalce Charles!
His statement about America is technically true for what the country has become, a populated by "united stateians." But for real patriots it is unequivocally false. America's identity is tied to the Bill of Rights and Constitution.
People can say what they want but I think it's a nice tradition to maintain the Royal Family. They don't have power, they're not harming anyone and they make loads of money through tourism.
@BreathQuietly they're taxing the citizens of Britain by millions of pounds. they could sponsor themselves. they could bring money in privately rather than running the country dry. the money spent on this wedding could save millions of lives in third world countries. it could build hospitals, wells, houses. it could go to Japan. but no, it's going to something that has no significance or importance. they'd still be bringing money in through tourism, even if the monarchy was done away with
@aidenmccloskey - Oh brother. 62 pence a year per person is chicken feed in the grand scheme of things, & there are millions of people living off of the UK government's tit that don't do squat. Anyone who says that the royals don't earn their money really need to do their homework. I'm not taking sides for or against them, but I get so sick of the constant nit-picking that goes on where the family are concerned.
@mrlopez2681 i wasn't talking about the 62 pence a year. maybe if you re-read my comment you'd understand that i was referring to the wedding. why are you bringing the millions of people who are on benefits into the subject to support your point? that's invalid and irrelevant. you are taking sides and you clearly haven't done your homework if that's all you can point out in your defense.
@aidenmccloskey They do take money in by private means, and donate it right into the Government, the Lands owned by Elizabeth Windsor are worth hundreds of millions - as opposed to the land owned by the Crown - and she recieves about forty million in return.
these fuckers live off tax payers money and are of no help to this human ratrace that many of us struggle in. people all over the world dont even have food while this prick prince lives in golden houses.. how the hell can somone be world famous for being born into a family.. sutch a fuckin disgrace. fuck the royal wedding. theyre nothing special
I agree, the royals are nothing special, we are all humans, these fuckers are just fortunate enough to be born in that body and to live life with cheat codes on. See we human beings haven't even evolved from the survival of the fittest stage, majority of the population are focused on religion, royals, money, almost everything that can keep a human brain downgraded as possible. Look at all these useless media for example, charlie sheen..royal weddig... just beiber i mean common...WTF.

Monarchy is frankly nothing for the modern world. In the future hopefully this archaic system will be swept away from the world all together. Monarchy is the same as dictatorship and the only reason that queen Elisabeth doesn't oppress people like her forefathers did is because of democracy and human rights.

The queen is the biggest benefit sponge in our country. We dont live in a feudal society anymore. We should get rid of this wasteful; undemocratic; anachronistic monarchy and open the royal grounds up to the public for tourism. France does this and makes more money from tourism than any other country in the world.

TheWoodgerC 1 month ago
Theres no point getting rid of the monarchy since they contribute a lot of money to the economy with their businesses and investments, it helps keep tourism up and is part of the national identity. I dont really see what upsides there are to getting rid of them.
FishType1 1 month ago
@FishType1
323157 1 month ago
@FishType1
323157 1 month ago
....another detatched from reality political commentator. This "More patriotic to be royalist" arguement is utter codswallop! Does it then, diminish Oliver Cromwell's status as an Englishman because he wasn't exactly pro-monarchist? I think not......
rondog1973 1 month ago 3
@rondog1973 But Cromwell declared himself Lord Protector and ruled as a king until his death, afterwards the monarchy was reinstated. So Cromwell was anti-monarchy but not anti-absolutism. The monarchy is less important now of course, but as a symbol of a nation it is steeped in mystique and personality. While Britain could survive without the monarchy, and it is not unpatriotic to suggest so, the question is what fills the void that removal of this symbol leaves behind
TheDavelogan 1 month ago
@TheDavelogan
Void? What void? How about it will be filled with a nation that elects their leaders based on merit not genetics? That was really difficult.

it seems like the french tourist industry got a boost from losing its monarchy. im not saying we should kill the royals like the french did, far from it, im simply suggesting that the "royals bring tourists" argument is moot.

To be anti royalty is to be anti British/English. The queen is a symbol of our nation. It's funny about all these people scream that they "tax us" when they're millions of people leaching of f the government claiming job seekers allowance. Also they're not out for their personal gain unlike politicians of parliament. I believe that the only reason for someone to dislike them is that they are green with envy and have no pride.
andyfoxy1 5 months ago 5
@andyfoxy1 Maybe some people are anti monarchist is because it is un-democratic and the only reason they have power in the first place is that they happen to be descended from people who took land from the weak and killed others who stood in their way. Although I'll admit I'd rather have a monarch than most republican systems I see.

Traynor921 4 months ago
@Traynor921 My point is, as a nation it is ironic if you moan about the royals receiving money from the state if people (commoners) do too. I'm not saying that's it wrong to be on benefit or people shouldn't receive help when they need it most but there A LOT of who take advantage of the system. My point was aimed at 'leeches'!
andyfoxy1 4 months ago
@andyfoxy1 Also, "anti British/English". You do realize they aren't exclusive to one another. If you're "anti-royalty" concept equates to anti British/English it should also apply to anti- Scots, Welsh, N. Irish, Canadian, Australian and just about every nation in the union, commonwealth and every other royal nation which is a ridiculous notion. The fundamental error with your assertion is that you generalize and claim to know what Britishness is in itself to call people "anti". You don't know.
Traynor921 4 months ago
@Traynor921 I understand where your coming from but I believe the Queen is a symbol - a personification of England and therefore any attack on her is an attack on England and not a symbol of other country's even if she is queen of many other countries because when you think of auz, Wales or Scotland you don't think of the Queen. You say that is a ridiculous notion that she is Queen of the commonwealth, Britain colonised many countries that became part of us but gradually got independence.
andyfoxy1 4 months ago
@andyfoxy1 First of all she isn't the Queen of England, she's the Queen of the United Kingdom, the Kingdom of England hasn't existed since before the union so you have no real justification to think of her as such. Just because you don't think of the Queen as the Queen of the Commonwealth nations, doesn't mean she isn't. Britain, yes Britain as you say, not just England, colonized many countries but they never became part of Britain, merely it's empire. It still doesn't answer the question.
Traynor921 4 months ago
@Traynor921 I never said she was just the Queen of England merely a symbol of England because she is English. The Queen is related to all European royalty for they wouldn't marry commoners and does have English in her as most of her ancestors were born in England. King George the third was English his father from the house of Hanover because the Stuarts bloodline died out. I don't think you asked a question.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 Also, indeed she is a symbol of Britain because she's been cultivated to appear so. If you look at her ancestry barely any is English, more German, little bit of Scots and many other nationalities.
Traynor921 4 months ago
@andyfoxy1 This country stands for the values of freedom, democracy, equality and tolerance that, by broad political consensus, are said to be at the heart of a modern Britain. The monarchy stands for none of these.
It is the monarchists who are least patriotic - they favour loyalty to a single privileged family over loyalty to our nation.
londonthistle 3 months ago 69
@londonthistle Bull shit. Total bull shit. 'monarchists who are least patriotic' - this tell me everything I need to know about you. 'single privileged family' - hint of jealousy? I favour my loyalty to my queen and not some jumped up egotistical cunt to who never keeps his word and only job is to get more votes rather than care for the public and hands out Referendums in important matters. That's why I love democracy (sarcasm)have you always been green twat? When I say green a mean jealous.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 You failed to address anything I said, but just tried to slander me. Your queen isn't accountable to you, nor wary of you. People do vote out politicians who don't keep their word, and I think someone born to rule is going to be slightly more egotistical than a representative of others. Your last point makes you seem anti-democratic, I don't like the current gov't or even the result of the last referendum but I love the fact that the majority chose it, and that's why I accept it.
londonthistle 3 months ago
@londonthistle You accept democracy because you're a sheepish fool to think that PM's work for the people of Britain. They don't they only work for themselves to gain power and money - The royal family give more to Britain than any Pm. Gordon Brown was a aggressive dictator behind the scenes. Ed millaband is head of labour even though we voted for David to be head because of the banks- we were plunged into the European union without voting. Is this ringing a bell. Pm's act more like royalty.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@londonthistle On a side note - I don't care what you think. You don't like the current gov't? Well that's democracy. My Queen is also your Queen you fucking moron.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 I said I don't like the current gov't but I love the fact that the majority chose it, you can take what I say out of context but all that does is make you appear ignorant. If the politicians were working for power and money they wouldn't become MPs, who for the work they do and skill they require get paid very little - which is why so many MPs come from rich backgrounds. The royal family don't give anything to Britain - they're benefit scroungers on a royal scale.
londonthistle 3 months ago
@londonthistle Right so they don't bring in millions in tourism and memorabilia? No of course not! (sarcasm). You gone bodmin, absolute fool. Yeah MP's don't get paid much, just over hundred thousand with travel expensive's, staff costs and costs to run their cabinet for free. Lets face a vast number has abused this power also (which is superfluously ridiculous) i.e by buying a moat a claiming it on expensive's, porn films and even an MP has gone to prison for such treasonous crimes.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 There is no evidence that the monarchy contributes to tourism on the contrary if all the palaces and grounds were open to the public like in France (which had 48.67m more tourists than us in 2010) we could have so much more potential. Of the top 20 UK attractions only one royal residence makes it on- no.17, windsor castle beaten by LEGOLAND at no.7. Tourism revenue is not only irrelevant to a debate about our constitution, the assumption that the monarchy promotes tourism is untrue.

@londonthistle There is no evidence? are you spack-tarded? Because you say so, doesn't make it so!
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@londonthistle correct - if that unelected silver-spoon brigade attract tourists, let the tourist board subsidise them instead of the taxpayer having to
sockington1 1 month ago 2
@londonthistle
It's not just tourism that the monarchy brings in.
They also have to pay the government for all the land they have.
This alone is more than what they cost.
And how does the monarchy not stand for "freedom, democracy, equality and tolerance"?
Thats a load of fucking bullshit.
They have no power in politics and their charity work is substantial.

@TMOTheMarkedOne
Quote me a study that shows a clear and substantiated direct correlation between there being an ACTIVE reigning monarch and an increase in tourism. Lets start with this one. Good luck!

@londonthistle
How dare you bring in facts and logic to a discussion about the monarchy!
323157 1 month ago 3
Also, we only found out that the MPs were abusing the system because they're elected reps. and have to be more open about where their money goes. If the Queen builds a moat or the Duke watches porn we don't realise that's where our money is going. They get paid just over £65,000 (not incl. taxes etc.) and are currently only given expenses for running an office and travel expenses - something that most people are provided for by their employers anyway. You're clutching at straws here.
londonthistle 3 months ago
@londonthistle Wait are you defending fat cats MP's who take advantage/lie/steal of all of us and then compare them to the royals? That is shameful and treasonous! The royal family takes the same about every year and what they do with their money is their business but on the subject with the fat cats who I owe no allegiance to0. who are all well off rich boys; to whom have the best education and have the tenacity to steal from us then have them defended by the least unpatriotic person .
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 are you taking the mickey out of me? You're defending the royal family because they're not fat cats that you owe no allegiance to? that they're not well off or rich, have the best education and steal from us? I hope one day you realise the hypocrisy of your beliefs, until then search 'win the argument republic' and click on the first result. If you come up with something that isn't on there I'd like to know.
londonthistle 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 Furthermore (a few factchecks), Gordon Brown can't be a literal dictator when there is parliament and the opposition party to keep him in check. The banks don't have a vote in labour leadership, that's done within the party. Also, Britain voted for EU membership in 1975. Can we switch to messaging? I'm sure it would benefit both of us and people just trying to enjoy the video, perhaps you could link me to an article that better articulates your point of view w/out personal attacks?

@londonthistle the worst thing is that they arent even english!
lumpfish99 2 months ago
Don't be so stupid. Presidents don't enjoy the support of a broad political consensus unless appointed, thus removing the democratic element. A non-partisan, non-political head of state is the greatest gift a political system can bestow upon a nation, because it separates politicians from the grandiosity of office. It is no coincidence that Britain remained free of mainland European turbulence because we enjoyed constitutional evolution rather than revolution
Bastiat90 1 month ago
@londonthistle yea but they bring in tourists and small businesses need that money, so I say fair play
dan11009 1 month ago
@dan11009 Small businesses generally don't live off tourist money because they are on a local basis. How many corner shops, grocers, butchers, etc etc could you go to which make money off of tourists?
Pawnbroker00 1 month ago 2
@Pawnbroker00 all i know is, the more tourist coming through the UK spending there money the better, I dont care if they are buying tic tac royal crap or cans of coke from corner stores. what would you rather have a massive disney land near london? or the queen?

@londonthistle What? The Queen has done more for her country than you could ever hope to do over the last 59 nearly 60 years. How dare you make such a ludicrous statement. Whilst I'm very opposed to practices such as hunting, I feel it is wrong to generalise such a statement.

@andyfoxy1 I love that:
People Unemployed and claiming a small legitimate assistance is in a dichotomy with the queen claiming a Royal lifestyle.
- Insane.
"To be anti royalty is to be anti British/English" - French aren't French any more? The Germans aren't German? The Spanish aren't Spanish? Nonsense.
CmdrTobs 3 months ago
@CmdrTobs Firstly the Spanish have a royal family so? A bit stupid? What would you know, your clearly not English or even British because no Brit would never like a video with the word soccer in it. Second when you're dealing with vast numbers of benefit scroungers on the dole about 250k taking over 50 quid a week while the royals may take just over 30 million a year off the people they also bring in cash through tourism.
andyfoxy1 3 months ago
@andyfoxy1 I say Spanish as they had that debate when Franco took over and horses didn't stop breeding, Bullfighting and Flamco didn't stop happening when the King was gone and the firmly remained Spanish.
"Brit would never like a video with the word soccer in it" - I'll take that as flippant.
"benefit scroungers" - Strawman, suggests that all of them have never worked:/
"royals may take just over 30 million" - Give me 30m a year and I too will bring in tourism.
CmdrTobs 1 month ago
@CmdrTobs To you I will say this... I care not for what you have to say though you make good points. I believe the number of people has risen on the dole to 2 and a half million. That's 2.5 million x £100 every two weeks. I wrote that because I don't know how the country can afford such expense and because I'm bored.
andyfoxy1 1 month ago
@andyfoxy1 It's only about 5 Billion a year. Well worth it to stop people who have lost there job having to sell almost everything they own like a car, mobile phone that will certainly prevent them finding work.
Don't confuse JSA with housing benefit, Family tax credits and so on that cost 10's of billions. JSA certainly saves money long term.

@BritishTrekkie952 A simple counter to that 'argument', would be to confiscate the land which was stolen from the British people in the first place.

can i claim for a wedding at the dole office?
dan11009 9 months ago

Does anybody seriously think that this monarchy will last forever? So why not embrace the future that much faster and send them packing?
AspiringPotato 10 months ago
It's 2011 and there are still royal families pulling the strings. A total joke. They must be laughing all the way to their banks.

we should be more concern about our fucking country rather than fucking ROYAL WEDDING.......... PEACE
desaironak11 10 months ago
People can say what they want but I think it's a nice tradition to maintain the Royal Family. They don't have power, they're not harming anyone and they make loads of money through tourism.
BreathQuietly 10 months ago
@BreathQuietly they're taxing the citizens of Britain by millions of pounds. they could sponsor themselves. they could bring money in privately rather than running the country dry. the money spent on this wedding could save millions of lives in third world countries. it could build hospitals, wells, houses. it could go to Japan. but no, it's going to something that has no significance or importance. they'd still be bringing money in through tourism, even if the monarchy was done away with
aidenmccloskey 10 months ago 2
@aidenmccloskey - Oh brother. 62 pence a year per person is chicken feed in the grand scheme of things, & there are millions of people living off of the UK government's tit that don't do squat. Anyone who says that the royals don't earn their money really need to do their homework. I'm not taking sides for or against them, but I get so sick of the constant nit-picking that goes on where the family are concerned.
mrlopez2681 9 months ago
@mrlopez2681 i wasn't talking about the 62 pence a year. maybe if you re-read my comment you'd understand that i was referring to the wedding. why are you bringing the millions of people who are on benefits into the subject to support your point? that's invalid and irrelevant. you are taking sides and you clearly haven't done your homework if that's all you can point out in your defense.
aidenmccloskey 9 months ago
@aidenmccloskey They do take money in by private means, and donate it right into the Government, the Lands owned by Elizabeth Windsor are worth hundreds of millions - as opposed to the land owned by the Crown - and she recieves about forty million in return.

xXEMOXROXx 10 months ago 3
@xXEMOXROXx

@chrish12345 It refers to pleasing the masses with basics. Bread being the essentials to sustain, circuses being the entertainment to prevent boredom, both meant to pacify and prevent unrest against the ruling.
