the level of difficulty in that penalty is unbelievable the pressure(wc final), the goal he's against(buffon considered the best at that time) and he still finishes beautifully very few have skill like Zidane

Many players have chipped penalty shots at big stages before Zidane, and an endless number of players chip goalkeepers on a daily basis. Also, he did almost mess up by over-chipping it.

Zidane is right up there with Maradona and Pele , and I agree with Bosseking, how can someone that confident of his soccer skills lose his temper , I have NEVER rooted for france in a world cup but with Zizou I couldn't but to ! , a guy takes a nation that never even dreamt of makin it to the WC final and gives them a WC title and almost gives them another one with a legendary chip penalty ! , look at the french team now with all their stars they probably won't make it to the round of 16!

@JordanHMH i feel bad for the french team and people since that could have been their last chance in a while to win something. he was such a great player and surely could have won the finals, but sadly he threw it all away by headbutting a guy over some words he said. not worth it as in the end the italian won.

@Mezzo396 Agreed , Henry is a very good player but he doesn't have the charisma of Zizou and even Henry who willingly caused a mayham to have france even qualify to the world cup was put on the bench when they actually made it ! , back to Zidane. I think that he shouldn've headbutted Mata. regardless but to say that he threw the worldcup final is very unfair to him , he fought until the end and the game ended in Penalties and as we all know penalties aren't exactly the fairest of judges!

Great pen, by one of the greatest players of all time. Obviously he didnt mean it to hit the bar. the guys saying he did are clearly idiots. he went for the chip and adrenaline probably caused him to hit it slightly harder than he meant to causing it to hit the bar and almost not go in. He would have meant to hit it a couple of feet lower obviously.

you are very arrogant and obviously suck at football if you dont believe someone can touch the crossbar on purpose from the penalty spot. i have done it several times, albeit without the precision of zidane's shot. the fact that he did it in the world cup final is even more impressive because it is a risky shot. zidane has balls. i suggest you grow some before demeaning zidane's skills.

@Ariessxx i will cry all my life for the fact that he losts the final with the materazi nightmare. all my life. it would have been the end of all time for a football player. he had came back only to play this very last world cup in french team and had gone till the final where they were leading 1-0 by his own penalty goal. how did this even ever happened? i still cant believe it. its tragic. satanic!
