When the wings are fully swept back and you see heavy exhaust, it's going to be a high speed pass. But even with wings forward and less velocity, the B1b can light the afterburners and rattle your.
about 15 years ago at an AFB in Nevada, a retired AF couple in their RV parked on the side of the road over night (unfortunately in the low altitude test run area), found themselves and their RV lying on its side aftrer a B-1 flew over them at about 50 ft
@SonicGeneration and @excel4600c that is not the sound barrier or sonic boom. it is called a condensation cone. it is going fast, but it is not going supersonic in this video
@cschweitzer6472 Quite right, if the pilot wanted to go supersonic at that height, it'd be no problem, but all the spectators would be deaf. Our boys in Afghanistan have gone mach in the B-1, at that level to do just that, leave potential targets deaf.
@excel4600c Hes flying at max ~ sea level speed, which is almost the speed of sound. M .92 if the info i got is correct. At very high altitude it can break the barrier. That cloud you see is the sound barrier =D
for those stating that its not supersonic take 1 minute and read from wikipedia: The Rockwell (now part of Boeing) B-1 Lancer[N 1] is a four-engine variable-sweep wing strategic bomber used by the United States Air Force (USAF). First envisioned in the 1960s as a supersonic bomber with sufficient range and payload to replace the Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, it developed primarily into a low-level penetrator with long range and supersonic speed capability at high altitude.
@Strayfender Stargate joke.. *pushes glasses up*. I was suggesting that the plane was tearing the fabric of space in order to travel faster than light.
I remember at the ILA 2008......a few hundred meters away were constantly airliners at takeoff or landing, no big deal....the occasionally F-5 program or Helicopters going on....until a B-1B took off, right over the area - this was the loudest ..."thing" I have ever heard....every noise ecxept the four engines was suddenly cut off, and sorta stopped.
But F-4s are pretty loud too (and pretty to look at - since the -E)
F-4s are a proof that you put a big enough rocket on a brick you can make it fly.. don't get me wrong the f-4 is a pretty bird, love the lines along the body , but its not f-15. as for the b-1 four F100 engines in full augmentation (afterbuners) has 200dbs per engine. not that I was ever impressed with the Bone, it sucked to work on. broke more than it flew, and it had only had a 65% FMC rate when I worked them from 1994-98
@stratofortress68 Not true. EVERY aerodynamic feature of the F-4 has a purpose. The thrust to weight ratio doesn't even compare to the F-15, F-16, F-18 -- meaning that those three aircraft are likely even MORE proof that a big enough rocket will make a brick fly.
I'll be seeing this amazing bomber in 3 days at an airshow! I fell in love with it when I saw it for the first time last year at our air show. Loudest aircraft I've EVER heard!
@KD5XB To me Phantom was one of the loudest jets as well. Out of all the jets I have been around, my ears were actually hurting whenever F-4 would flyby.
The bomber that thinks it's a fighter. The sound on those passes, is so bad-ass!

The first version of the B-1 , which was canceled, was supposed to reach MACH 2.

its not at high speed, the wings are not retracted.

@ace55231291 then you need to look at 0:52....fully retracted and cloud round the aircraft i think high speed.

No airplane that big should be able to do what the Bone can do. It's a fantastic beast to watch.

Been looking for footage of this for a while, was outside the show at the bottom of the runway, AWESOME good memories of a class Airshow every year.

Mach 1+ at altitude. Not a normal profile, but if we need to get to the other side of a Country the capability is there.

Yes it is supersonic-not difficult to look up the information if you don't know-Wikipedia for example

you're an idiot. the b1b is supersonic. but it wasn't flying above the sound barrier...hence no sonic boom.

you cant really see the sonic boom with the clouds everywhere
TheSlayerman7 1 year ago
@TheSlayerman7 it wasn't a sonic boom, there wasn't even a boom. the vapor cone was from there being alot of moisture in the air.
