Interesting teaching on hell. Though I don't agree completely, I feel he gave some interesting points on his perspective. One question: if there is no ETERNAL torture in hell, then how would you (anyone) account for our ETERNAL soul? They were created to live forever. If those who reject Christ have eternal souls, where will they live if there is no ETERNAL, literal, torture in hell?
@jillianfrom64 (Genesis 2:7; Ecclesiastes 12:7; and all references that have to do with eternal life, everlasting life, etc) There's no one pinpoint verse, however, when linking these verse together I feel this is the obvious conclusion that most people arrive at. Another factor is that we are created in the image of God (who is eternal and everlasting); thus every person has an eternal & immortal soul.
@watfordssermons I have been studying on this subject for a few months now and I have yet to find scripture that supports that our souls are immortal without Christ. "For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten son that no one should perish but that all should have everlasting life." John 3:16. There are many verses in scripture that confirm this and many that confirm that we will perish/die if we do not accept the free gift of eternal life from Christ.
If you really want to know the truth in the subject or any subject from the biblical perspective then open you mind to the Spirit and peristantly and prayerfully study it for yourself to find out if your belief is based on scripture or on traditions of man. It is also important to find out what words were in the original Hebrew and Greek texts along with learning of the preconcieved beliefs and customs that the people of the biblical eras held to.
@jillianfrom64 First of all, thank you for this wonderful biblical discussion. It's so nice to be able have a biblical discussion like this. I found it hard to have biblical discussion with actual friends I had on Face Book. So thanks. Secondly, what would you do with Daniel 12:2 "And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt."? Wouldn't that speak to an immortal, eternal soul being punished in hell?
