I wouldn't say life is a byproduct of chance. I'd say that under the conditions of the early earth it is very possible for life to have formed. The same is probably true for Mars. Actually, I've allways said that the origin of life and the universe is really the only thing where there is room for a god, because we don't have definitive evidence as to what exactly happened. I'd like to hear Sam's explanation on why happier and wealthier people are more important. I agree that more intelligent/creative people are more important in the context in which he's speaking, but I really don't understand how a happier person can be more important. I've read that Isaac Newton and Beethoven both suffered from depression, but how could you say they weren't more important than many people of their time?

@onefodderunit Me not believing in god isn't based on abiogenesis. It's based on the fact that there is no evidence for the existence of a god. Actually, I've allways said that the origin of life and the universe is really the only thing where there is room for a god, because we don't have definitive evidence as to what exactly happened. I think it's fine if people believe in god in the manner you do. As long as you know evolution is a fact and the earth is 4.55 billion years old.

They had to use a cold trap to isolate the formations from the atmosphere which would begin destroying them upon formation. You cannot make a cell out of amino acids.

I'd like to hear Sam's explanation on why happier and wealthier people are more important. I agree that more intelligent/creative people are more important in the context in which he's speaking, but I really don't understand how a happier person can be more important. I've read that Isaac Newton and Beethoven both suffered from depression, but how could you say they weren't more important than many people of their time?

IMO it is the responsibilities that one person has as opposed to everyone else. a genius could still have no job, and no home, as smart as he/she is, he/she is as important as the responsibilities that their job demands or what the person is able to contribute to the society. That is not to say that a person who contributes nothing is useless, as that person may have the responsibility of voting.
