Pyruvate is the starting substrate for gN. We don't want it to go into the mitochondria because then we have to convert it to other substrates and feed it into the cycle... This means energy is used and thus we try to avoid it. Hopefully that clears up the concept
Can you clarify the concept of blocking pyruvate from getting into the mitochondria? (explained at 4:10) I thought that the pyruvate needs to get into the mitochondria to begin gluconeogenesis.
