I feel bad for Gzowski. He seems like a good journalist. Mogwai featured parts of this interview in the song, "Punk Rock:" and they did a really good job of editing it into sounding like an intelligent rant instead of the childish rock-star drivel that it is.

He's either incredibly stoned or incredibly asinine. I can't really decide. The interviewer is pretty sharp though. No, I don't know what you mean, Iggy.
media people always try to dissect art. it happened in 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's. the reason they need to do it is profit. they want to be controversial to improve ratings. what an inartistic way to do it.
he came to perform and was shut down at the last minute by red tape he didn't understand or want to understand at the time. So he was pissed that's all (and maybe a bit too lit)
Yeh, the host's a square, but he's not stupid. He tries to take him seriously and to let him explain his position. Really, Iggy is a pompous ass. I remember watching this as a teenager on the night it was on the CBC and feeling embarrassed for Iggy, because I really liked his music and I so wished he could talk like a normal human being instead of hiding behind this ridiculous facade.
I second that InuvikPhil, Iggy Pop plays that whole subversive game where he won't answer a single straightforward question just to put on a show. Note where he calls himself a genius with a completely serious face. His ego is extremely inflated (probably by cocaine..) and he won't give Gzowski an inch. I don't think any interviewer could interview him properly at this stage in the stooges with a few exceptions..

dilettante: a person having a superficial interest in an art or a branch of knowledge. ie, someone who blames iggy's strange behavior on drugs.

i personally love iggy, but he's making himself look like an ass. he's talented and sexy, and he knows it. but his rudeness was unnecessary.

I don't think it was intentional, I think he was just VERY stoned when he did this.

Hilarious.
