they didn't rip off their own songs. they just re-used older riffs and writing techniques from previous albums. i remember listening to this album for the first time, and said out loud on several songs "this sounds like ______." the blank being filled in with songs such as master of puppets, etc.

metallica has come to the point of reusing their guitar riffs, and lars just isn't breakthrough with his percussion anymore. theres no more room to break with metallica, no more to be conquered.

Cut the musical vomit from about 3:56ish to 4:55ish and the song is dam near perfect. Oh Met's, if only you could have avoided the lazy load / reload riffs on this one. I'm going to have to agree with Forklift, this was pretty disappointing. I know some of you haven't heard the REAL Metallica from the days of MOP or AJFA, but back those days every song on the fucking tape was epic. Now they've got their own recycled riffs and they just aren't angry anymore. Maybe they should go back to dirty long hair and alcoholism and they'll have their chi back. Maybe a few divorces would help. This isn't the thrash Metallica is known for.
