  • i can't believe that this idiot won oscar that year, it shoulda been Dustin Hoffman, or Jon Voight

  • Now thats an oscar speach. Todays acceptance speach makers take note. Short, witty, to the point, a small thank you and leaves the stage. Thats how its done!!!

  • they remade true grit and i will never watch that one, one john wayne will always be best

  • @uberbadnoob6699666 dont blame ya...ive seen both and the orginal is soo much better

  • @uberbadnoob6699666 they are both phenomenal mate

  • As Jimmy Dean sang..... "He was a Big, Big Man".

  • Happy thanksgiving pilgrims

  • John Wayne was a racist....and any man who's a racist is a piece of shit in my book

  • @TalonIIV your an idiot.

  • @TalonIIV How shall I put this that you may understand ... How 'bout .... FUCK YOU ?

  • @TalonIIV

Yeah well 1st say that to his face, 2nd I can tell you that's about as true as the Walt Disney anti-Semitism claim

  • What a class act.

  • Richard Burton looks like he's gonna kill someone.

  • i guess at my age the new true grit just don't cut it, no one can fill his shoes

  • rip

  • nice boobs seeker man steals top comment

  • nice boobs seeker man steals top comment

  • is this me

  • John Wayne always sounded like he was on reds. I wonder if he had a problem with barbiturates? Thick tongue, slurred speech - it could have been reds or yellow jackets.

  • Oh my sexy cowboy loves this guy. We saw his outfit he wore in True Grit, patch, boots. hat, etc. at the Cowboy Museum on OKC several yrs. back and he was a big man. I think this was his first Oscar. So many good movies where the actor had to memorize the parts not read a sentence or two and look at a monitor. Ride 'em cowboys!

  • This was probably Richard Burton's best chance to win, and John Wayne kind of pulled an upset with this one.

  • 36 people know NOTHING about truly great stars. 36 people have no brains at al!!!

  • At the 1:03 minute mark, The Duke passes by a young Morgan Freeman.

John Wayne was a classy guy, no doubt.

  • john waynes a draft dodger

  • @deathviautube So are half the people in public office

  • john waynes a draft dodger

  • was that a young Morgan Freeman on the stage when he first walks up??

  • What a class act.

  • Dustin Hoffman must be won!!!

  • the man you'd have wished was your dad

  • Great actor one of the best actors ever

  • 33 don't like fuck you

  • Here's John Wayne at the first Thanksgiving: Happy Thanksgiving pilgrims!

  • He should have won it for the Searches, I think his greatest role ever!

  • Ich besitze von John Wayne ein ORIGINAL AUTOGRAMM - Juhuuuuuuuuuu

  • wayne knew how to ride a horse, cook on a campfire, rope cattle changing horseshoes, shooting. he learned and had a natural ability for all that .should of won for mclintock, eldorado, green berets, searchers.

  • wayne knew how to ride a horse, cook on a campfire, rope cattle changing horseshoes, shooting. he learned and had a natural ability for all that .should of won for mclintock, eldorado, green berets, searchers,

  • Wayne & Streisand like water & oil

  • The Duke should have won it for Liberty Valance or The Quiet Man. True Grit sucked sh*t...a so-so pic. Maybe they knew he was dying and thought to throw him a bone or something. Later, Rooster Cogburn & The Lady? Please. That film sucked sewage water. The Duke lives on in our hearts and minds. 100% American fighting man fighting for good and stuff like that. God Bless him. Yo. Peace out.

  • @BearyHairy True Grit was a great movie including it's music sung by Glen Campbell who was given the chance to be in the movie by John Wayne. I think the Oscar was well earnt imo and certainly didn't suck - Robert Duval was in it, Dennis Hopper was in it etc etc. Also, JW was declared free of cancer by that time.

Bit hard to say he was thown a bone but each to their own

    RIP JW

  • Streisand giving the DUKE an Oscar, must have killed her.

  • momentos impares!

  • He should've won it for The Searchers in 1956. That would've let Hoffman win it for Midnight Cowboy like he should have.

  • I've seen John Wayne do better acting in movies like "Sands of Iwo Jima." why he won an oscar for this, i don't know. he over-acted a lot, the way he says his lines were like he was reading a cue card hung behind the camera (like the other actors), he was also just himself with an eye-patch. in fact, i thought the old True Grit just sucked in general.

  • Talk about commanding a room. This guy talks and everybody listens.

  • He should've went up and said "I'm Johny Wayne at the first Thanksgiving, pilgrims... Happy Thanksgiving, pilgrims".

  • John Wayne was a good dude and he deserved the award

  • Stylist didn`t get a mention for `worst fucking wig`.

  • John Wayne was not given the oscar for True Grit but rather for his services to the movie industry over many years & also as an apology for the appalling way he was overlooked for awards. He played better roles in The Searchers, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The Quiet Man & his last very underated film The Shootist. A true American & I don't like Americans. CAGSEY

  • Looking at Barbra Streisand now I know where James Cameron got Avatar from...

  • So depressing.

  • American Machismo, the Duke! Gracious and humble speech.

  • what a handsome man.

  • More class in a one minute speech than the last 5 Oscar shows combined.

  • @Gnillob802 You obviously didn't see Forrest Whitaker's speech then

  • @Gnillob802 Sorry but am I the only one that doesn't see any class in this video nor in any Oscar show?

  • John Wayne, my favorite American ever! GO DUKE!

  • We do need a John Wayne, someone who will actually champion our country.

  • so dam sorry i wasnt around during your time !!

  • wow.. talk about th e big boys, a list nominees, tough crowd, whos who... how ever you want to call it...

  • Who let the airline stewardess read the winner?

  • The man was an actor, and he won. The end.

  • Hard to believe this is over 40 years old....my oh my how things have changed and not for the better since.....Suit is a little too small for a big man like John Wayne but the speech is like no other....short, powerful, gracious, humble, and to the point. Unfortunately, you don't see any of the actors and actor-want-to-be's today give such powerful acceptance speechs. God Bless the Duke...we sure could use more men like him today!

  • The man deserves a standing ovation!

  • Back in the days when the Oscars had class / nowadays crappy un American movies crappy selfish actors who don't live in the US and preach to use about stupid phoney causes / the Oscars are a joke these days........

  • @frwgt350net So non-American films and non-American actors don't deserve to win Oscars? Perhaps you should have your own awards ceremony for the world of film that is only for Americans then? You manage it with your baseball 'World' Series.

  • my favorite john wayne moment was when he dodged the draft during wwii then advocated sending thousands of other kids to vietnam to die because he had to prove he still had a dick, something his conservative minions these days all lack as well. some fucking hero. hope hes rotting in hell now.

  • He did try to enlist and he was rejected. The reasoning is understandable but to involved to explain to someone like you.

  • @1956blueeyes What about me? I'd like to know please....

  • it's me john wayne on the first thanksgiving! happy thanksgiving pilgrims!! like this if you know what i'm talking about :D

  • @xXTHEBRANDINIXx genuinely made me laugh! haha

  • Hip hip hooraaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!!,the Duke has finally won the Oscar!

  • thats why the duke is that man. period.

  • So I type in 'John Wayne' and what's the first thing I see... Lil' Wayne WTF Im gonna go on a rampage soon I swear

  • @HeavyJ318 youtube has been infected by hackers who lead you to sites you had no intention of going to.

  • @HeavyJ318 lmfao

  • @HeavyJ318 I'll bring the fucking ammo, lets do this!

  • @HeavyJ318 I accidentally thumbed you down. I meant to thumb you up. sorry.

  • John Wayne had been acting in films for years, and had never won an Oscar. It was about time he received one.

I've seen him in "True Grit". He was terrific.

  • @snoops71 He wasn't and he didn't deserve the Oscar!

  • I just watched a great song video that was uploaded. Search "Cowboys Anderson Braun".

It's a bonus if you care anything at all about Western movies. But the song is great nonetheless

  • Well lets face facts its kind of like when Helen Hunt won the best actress oscar over Judi Dench...There is no way that John Wayne ever out-acted Richard Burton in anything. it was a sentimental type thing. It should also be noted this was supposedly "liberal Hollywood" giving the most conservative guy in town. it's highest honor

  • Simply hearing John Wayne brings a smile to my face... such a great man.

  • We would do well to have some of his humbleness and class these days in Hollywood! He will live forever through his great roles and movies!

  • the greatest man to ever live, John Wayne. A Real man, but also a real gentleman

  • Very tough competition. But I would vote for Richard Burton.

King Richard was his one of the best performance.

  • luve you duke

  • I think it's SAD that they did a remake of True Grit with Jeff Bridges. Jeff Bridges is NO John Wayne.

  • @HARRYRABBITvmkname No and John Wayne would have been no Jeff Bridges in Children of a Lesser God.

  • Comment removed

  • @HARRYRABBITvmkname they DIDN'T remake it. they readapted the book it's based on. you ask them, they'll say they didn't think of the old movie when they did it

  • The problem with America today is we don't have any REAL man figures like John Wayne any more. so if you don't know what to do don't ever forget to ask your selves WWJD & WWJWD.

  • @jlk461 nope, just a bunch of liberal pretty boy dickheads

  • Richard Burton should have won!!!!

  • Someone who is retired in Maine worked with John Wayne. He said he was great. Nothing fake or Hollywood about him.

  • a lot of charisma.

  • We love and miss you Duke!!!!!!!!!

  • happy thanksgiving pilgrims !

  • see everyone is hot once upon a time

  • @NoFuturePete I see you are putting Hitler's words into practice. Hitler once said: "If you tell a big enough lie then people will believe it." If anybody knows about lying he was it.

  • Ron Paul 2012! True spirit of America

  • And the Oscar goes to Rooster Cogburn, Ethan Edwards, Tom Doniphon, Ringo Kid, Sean Thornton, Frank Wead John Devlin, Cole Thornton, Hondo Lane, McLintock, Thomas Dunson, John Chance, Kirby Yorke, Nathan Brittles and many others...

  • @IlPadoquino who are that

  • Jon wain is gay with tom sellek, and tom said he like to spew man joose on his duke devlin and he said "howdy pilgrim" :p

  • To @FilmsBooksandGames, So?

  • Its all about John Wayne, Johnny Cash & John Deer...Way Out Here...August 5...Josh Thompson...Watseka Theatre...Watseka Illinois...

  • A great actor & an even better human. John Wayne is a fine example of what every American should be.

  • @FilmsBooksandGames All I can say is thank god smoking kills.

  • Nice to see someone taking this Osar without making himself a fool like so many "stars" of today

  • this is a travesty and this is why those stupid make up oscars exist, talented actors who consistently give great performances and get snubbed consistently are awarded for a lame piece of work at the expense of an actor who gave a superior performance

  • I SWEAR WHEN THIS LIL LADY IS IN HEAVEN AM GONNA FIND JOHN WAYNE AND TELL HIM TO SADDLE THIS WAGON PILGRIM!!!!

  • @OUT666 HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Richard Burton and John Wayne! My favorite actors. Movies are crap now. Couldn't they both have won lol.

  • I never knew it was possible to get choked up at the sheer class of someone... but here I am getting teary eyed. Simple yet elegant, heartfelt words. This speech makes you want to be him. At least, that's how I feel.

  • Strieisand giving John Wayne an Oscar must have killed her to do it.

  • John Wayne should have been President

  • @RonanMacQuarrie if he wouldn't have died he would have been...

  • Happy thanks Giving, Pilgrims!

  • Till I die, you are my God!!!!!!

  • Class act

  • Didn't know John got the Academy Award for "True Grit". Well is was a great role for him and he should have gotten it! Loved the movie when I saw it on television when I was in junior high! What a classy acceptance speech! You could see the humility of the man in accepting his award...wow! I've read that so many of his peers thought he was a wonderful man as a person and a true friend. Never remember hearing about any scandals with him and hollywood beauties.

  • HE WAS A FRAUD HE WAS TO CHICKEN TO GO TO WAR,

  • @FilmsBooksandGames Well he was a racist that believed in white supremacy. He wasn't particularly educated and referred to any people that were as 'educated idiots'. He was a boor. He was a staunch conservative and a nauseating flag waving hawk that had never seen action in his life. All fairly redneck qualities.

  • @Easyandy100 And your daddy should have pulled out early.

  • I had forgotten that John Wayne won an Oscar. Good for him.

  • JOHN WAYNE'S AN ARSEHOLE

  • John wayne was an amazing actor!

  • He was a great star- not a great actor. There is a difference.

  • If you don't like this vid, then you're a commie.

  • He had several facelifts and wore a toupee - now that'S what I call a real man! LOL!

  • i am a big John Wayne fan. he is the only reason i watch westerns

  • So what if he hated blacks.....his fuckin choice!

  • @redmuddr Does that mean homosexuality is also a choice? I think that sexism, racism, ethnocentrism, and all that rot is just as much of a human condition (though it doesn't apply to everyone) as things like homosexuality, bisexuality, etc. It is kind of depressing, yes.

  • Love Streisand here. She's great. One of the last true performing legends.

  • "Fill your hand you son-of-a-b***h!"

  • Now that James Arness died, only Clint Eastwood is the one of the few great actors that are still alive!

  • Help me fight against fascist racist genocidal monopolies.

    rideriantieconomicwarfaretrisii.blogspot.com/2011/06/over-5000-emails-last-two-days.html

    Rider I

  • Great screen presence...no matter what!

  • @jasper2008ify yeah. Because he was damn good at it.

  • Still Missing THE DUKE...

  • Streisand seems nervous around him. he was a conservative and 50 times smarter than the flaming lib streisand

  • @3Mudbone1 I think Streisand seems actually quite respecful of Mr. Wayne.

  • @3Mudbone1

I think you're seeing what you want to see, given how many of The Duke's friends were liberals. Hell, Wayne even attended Jimmy Carter's inaugural ball.

  • lets be real, it was a lifetime achievement award. his acting was uninspired and campy, people loved him and he hated blacks so......fuck him

  • @Cscottyjordan spare me your liberal, race card, Bullshit. He didn't hate blacks. you libs say that about any conservative republicans because they challenge liberal stupidity "Mister, I ain't got a bigoted bone in my body. You don't drop that axe..I'll blast you to hell as quick as I would a white man" - John Wayne -Cahill U.S Marshall. second. it wasn't a lifetime achievement award, he earned it for his great performance in True Grit. and his acting wasn't campy and uninspired.

  • @Cscottyjordan He did not hate African Americans.

  • @Cscottyjordan go wash your mouth, son.

  • Barbara Streisand had nice tits.

  • @wackywankavator Fuck yeah back then streisand was hot and the duke was a bad ass.

  • @wackywankavator Definitely not anymore.

  • @wackywankavator and an ugly face

  • Only a hater/liberal does not 'like' this video.

  • @thomascapital lol?

  • biggest travesty in oscar history

  • @FilmsBooksandGames LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • Happy Birthday Duke!

In my book you will always be the best!!!!

We love you and miss you and no one can ever hold a candle to you!!!!

  • His ONLY Oscar - should've been (at least) his third or fourth!!! Red River; Sands of Iwo Jima; The Quiet Man; The Searchers; etc.... etc... etc...

  • @madgab5 I totaly agree

  • The duke deserved an oscar a long time ago!!!

  • Happy 104th Birthday John Wayne !! We Love You!! (May 26, 1907 - June 11, 1979) R.I.P Duke.

  • Happy birthday, John Wayne!

  • @ScrubmanLowell Great actor, love his movies - but a RACIST nonetheless

  • /watch?v=f4qWllmJgJ0 when i want to watch a good movie, i pick one from this video and i never dissapoint :))

  • John Wayne was THE movie star of his time. His on-screen presence was unmatched. The same is true for Arnold Schwarzenegger, and since then I can't think of anyone who has matched or surpassed them in those areas.

  • @blackbel4T

I'd say Clint Eastwood is up there also.

  • loved this movie. saw it when i was a child. Loved the end bit where rooster jumps the rail and waves his hat in the air. That's how I remember it, and the great movie star john wayne. It is one of my alltime movie greats this movie.

  • Barbra Streisand tarararaaaraaaaraa!!

  • #LEGENDARY

  • God Bless John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Stewart, Ronald Reagan and all of the greats from Old Hollywood, and fuck Barbra Streisand and all the anti-American, flag and bra burning, abortion-celebrating, enemy-appeasing, atheistic commie filthy vermin scum that populate Hollywood today. John Wayne= real man + patriot. Matt Damon & Co. can spend their whole lives and will never remotely amount the greatness of the Duke. God Bless John Wayne and God Bless America

  • @wheelinthesky300 so true...and so sad at the same time. John Wayne was the man. Wish more men were like him instead of all these wussies our society is populated with today

  • @billyboylb Fuck you! John Wayne was the BEST actor in American history. What the fuck does being anti-gay have to do with anything? How do you even know what his feelings about homosexuality were? No one talked about it in his day

  • Who was the woman who presented the award?

  • @hamidodangeh Barbra Streisand.maybe you should read next time u noob

  • @hamidodangeh Presented by Barbra Streisand

  • @hamidodangeh John Wayne winning the Best Actor Oscar® for his performance in "True Grit" - 42nd Annual Academy Awards® in 1970. Presented by Barbra Streisand.
