  • GET TO THE CHOPPA!!! THE DOG IS ESCAPING!!!

  • this movie is crap...cheap made...

  • Top comments are da same?

  • Someone please upload the deleted scenes, my disc wont play them :S

  • The ending was the best part of this movie.

  • Lars was a beast. This movie would have been soooo much better had there been more scenes with Lars.

  • @Jezza446 uh no... this movie was literally copied and pasted + acting was horrible and there not supposed to speak any english in this and the story + effects were horrible. The thing isn't supposed to be identifiable either when it looks like a cockroach.. this movie was shit.

  • @DJDannyBacardi you are shit and nobody cares about your feelings about movie ...movie is awesome and take esay dude its a movie the 1 one is far better but this one is ok

  • Even though they're on a helicopter, moving at like 150KPH, why weren't they able to shoot down the thing??? I mean LOOK AT THE GUN. IT HAS A FUCKING SCOPE, A FLASH HINDER, AND A GUN SLING. It's not like the dog is moving at the speed of sound or anything! And hey, weren't the Norwegians suppose to be good at hunting?

  • @Hydraxolis Who says they were supposed to be good hunters? They work at a research base. And you try hitting a moving, zig-zagging target from an unstable platform with a semi-automatic weapon. It's much more difficult than it looks.

  • @boettcherownzu

Lars is an ex-Norwegian soldier, so he had a small point.

  • How to simulate the end scene for yourself: Find an arcade in your area with Silent Scope, or if you have a Wii, Move, or Kinect put in a rail shooter of your choice. First you need to fast for a day at least. Then soak your hands in icewater for ten minutes. Before actually playing put on thick gloves and dark sunglasses. Finally, play with someone nudging your shoulder constantly to simulate turbulance.

  • This movie sucked so much. Bad writing, bad acting, too much CGI, political correctness and several scenes conflicted with the original storyline. This doesn't even compare to John Carpenter's classic film.

  • @BlueIndividual God... You amerikans sucks...

  • This is NOT a remake

  • Even with watching the 2011 one, the 82's alternate ending still has that mystery to it. If you never watched, the 82 alternate ending shows a dog like the one from the beginning running, it stops and looks back at the burning US science camp (From the 82 one) and then resumes running and the movie fades out.

  • To be honest I liked the 2011 one, I thought it was good, just not nearly as good as the 1982 one. I always hate bashing old movies (As there is a ton of awesome old-school ones), but the 1952 one wasn't so great, it was pretty much your generic 50s "Kill the alien!" movie.

  • 2011 version sucks.

  • Two things: 1). They found an original 5.56 HK93 w/ Hensoldt scope like in original. Nerdgasm. 2). Ramona Flowers either froze to death, was killed by the thing, or was captured by the Soviets and either died in Soviet prison or is a 50something still in captivity. But probably dead. So sad ending.

  • @MyLittleDiscolite

Probably froze to death, unless she started a fire/took shelter in the remains of the camp or the alien vessel. There were no Things near her at that point and assuming she found the Russian base(assuming it exists in the first place) I don't see why they'd capture her or throw her in prison? Just because there was some Russian/American tension at the time doesn't mean they were indiscriminately shooting any Americans they could find.

  • @DarkCaduceus Maybe she made it to the Mcmurdo...I dont know its just as ambiguous as the 1982 version. Its either they survived, died or got assimilated.

  • comic sans

  • That dog is like a power wheels car, it changed Its color with the cold

  • They should have digitally remastered the opening to John Carpenters "The Thing" and shown Kurt Russell before goign to the credits.

  • Is it me or is that dude the worst shot ever? I get that he's nervous and in a helicotper with a moving target - but it's a mostly black dog in the snow!

  • @SpecialFXLady just cause he can see it clearly doesn't mean its easy to shoot. Try pheasant shooting.

  • @DerErwecker this is a movie...Not a game

  • Little does Matias know, that the two faced Thing he saw was Edvard (who he was calling) and Adam.

  • Comment removed

  • Didn't anybody else notice that the dog in the prequel and the dog in the Carpenter film are extremely different looking. You can even see it in this clip. Look at the dog jumping out of the building, and then look at the dog running in the snow (which are clips from Carpenters version). This really annoyed me.

  • @moviemakinggod4 Well what do you want them to have done? Paint the dog? Maybe it was difficult to find a dog that looked exactly like the original.

  • @KakuKachoO No I would never want a dog painted! lol. But seriously, Black and White Huskies are not in short supply. They used a husky with a strange pattern having mostly white fur with a black splotch around the eye, pretty specific and memorable, very different from Carpenters dark Black and White.

  • @moviemakinggod4

Which dog are you talking about? I heard that in the 1982 movie, the dog was half husky. So everyone was scared shiteless around it.

  • @Bumblewave

Jed in the 82 film was half Alaskan malmute and half wolf. The reason people were scared around it was it didn't like being around people much.

  • @KakuKachoO

Why not use CG now to pain the dog the right color.Hell in the 82 film the dog running in the snow is NOT JED the dog walking around camp. They painted the dog to look like Jed for the 82 film.

  • i waited for this shit to happen the whole movie and then when the end credits roll its all of a sudden here. im soo glad they put this in, if they didnt i prolly wouldnt watch it but a few times.

  • @Point50Cal Thank you! Hahaha! I knew it! I'll show him this comment and some other info I dug up, lol it's been bugging me more than it probably should. Many MANY thanks.

  • There's something really...earry about theme for the thing that i've always loved

  • adam sandler as the pilot?

  • Some people might criticize the effects/plot of this movie, but I can't see how anybody would dislike this kind of continuity!

  • holy shit! my name is Matias

  • It seems to me like everyone on Youtube seems to bitch about this whole movie EXCEPT for this one scene! i mean come on, this movie wasnt all that bad, I actually liked it! sure it may not be rememberd as a classic like the 80's one but in an age of nothing but sequels/prequels/remakes, this movie was damn good! plus i would like to remind everyone that the 80's version was a remake itself...

  • @aaronthebox Actually 80's version was more like more faithful adaptation of the book "Who goes there?", it isn't really a remake of the 50's movie "The thing from another world".

  • @aaronthebox

I bitch about the entire movie INCLUDING THIS VERY SCENE. They screwed up the Norwegians at the end of this movie. Lars is not the guy who is shot. The guy who is shot is the pilot. But since he arrived at the end of this movie and didn't experience the thing, why the hell would he be trying to kill the dog badly. He wouldn't.

Lars is suppose to have a torn fur hooded parka but again in this movie he doesn't.

There are other errors in the movie as well.

  • if only lars could shoot

  • @mekdramon Heh. :)

  • Is that gun a G3 or am I crazy? I called it when we were watching the movie and my bro started shit talk'n me. Sounds the same and looks damn close. Anyone here an expert or know?

  • @imstillbehindyou More like an AG-3, which is the Norweigan copy of the G3. But yeah, definitely a G3.

  • I don't think that the PC game should give anyone the idea to make a sequel to the JC movie though, i think it was fine just the way it was...a mystery.

  • I loved this movie, and i thought that the things you saw in the JC movie in this one was awesome too. Its just that CGI will never be as good as great puppet work.

  • hey smart ones thats the beginning to the original movie

  • Big mistake here, its a 1 hour trip between the 2 bases. That means they followed this dog for 4+ hours shooting at it. Problem here is that the dog wasn't a dog, so no matter how many times you shoot it it'll keep running.

  • @sacr3 But in the Carpenter movie the blood test scene demonstrates that infected tissue will react energetically to trauma. Shooting the dog may have possibly triggered a transformation, which would have slowed it down and allowed lars to finish it off. It's just really hard to hit a target that small moving at full sprint.

  • @SiegeTF Well it is a pretty intelligent.... "thing" so instead of defending itself after a gun shot and slowing its progress down - it probably kept running

  • @SiegeTF i totally agree with you guy i think this movie is awesome and you?

  • "That's no dog!" - God this ending was the greatest part of this prequel. Made my day to see the back story to JC film explained! :)

  • No nitpicking intended but you got several of the lines incorrectly translated. If anyone's interested I can translate it proprely. Thanks for the upload!

  • This ending only proves that making this movie was pointless.

  • @Chillton The point of this movie was to be a companion piece to John Carpenter's film.

  • @psychokinrazalon Some things should be left alone ;)

  • @Chillton Except JC's movie really did need a companion piece.

  • @psychokinrazalon Not really, it was better when you were wondering what the hell happened in the Norwegian base, especially since they didn't do a very good job on the prequel.

  • @Simpleman925 But there are some people who wanted to know what the hell happened, and if you didn't want to know than you didn't have to watch the prequel.

  • @psychokinrazalon I know.

  • @Simpleman925 Than don't complain.

  • @psychokinrazalon

And those people are what we call IDIOTS.

  • @snake2006 They're not idiots. Some people just like to be told every little detail.

  • @Simpleman925 SHUT THE FUCK UP! You can't just take it becuse Norway are better then Amerika!

  • @MegaLuddeman There's no need for insulting. We can talk like civilized people. Also, it's "Norway is better than America", not "Norway are better then Amerika".

  • @Simpleman925 Ignore him, he's just being another Troll. Youtube seems to be their habitat.

  • @BlueIndividual indeed.

  • Comment removed

  • @psychokinrazalon

    No it didn't.

I was good as a stand alone. Everything we needed to know was already told to us in the 82 film. We know the Thing got loose, and it wrecked the Norwegian camp leaving 2 survivors who went on to be killed at Outpost 31. That is all that was needed.

  • I really enjoyed this movie.

  • LARS FTW

  • Also. Lars has a horrible shot. lol

  • In the new movie they mention that there's a Russian camp about 60 miles from the Norwegian one. However they never show anything else. Maybe they'll do a new movie or another game that ties it in.

  • @xXxM0nteNegr0xXx In the sequel Carpenter originally wrote a Russian gets a sample of the thing and brings it to the mainland

  • Im from sweden and I understand all the things lars is saying and sorry Becomingcrazy900. Lars do not say all those words right.

  • @MegaLuddeman That's because Lars and the others aren't Swedish, they're Norwegian. That's the running joke in the original 'Thing.'

  • I was a huge fan of the 80's Thing with Kurt Russel, so this ending gave me such a huge boner

  • @HarrietTumban agreed

  • this ending made the movie worth it!

  • It makes me sad that Lars dies by one of the men in the old film. He goes through all this, to die like that.

  • @mordigoth

    Lars Blows up.

Pay attention to the pilot side of the chopper in 82 film. When it lands at 7 min 40 seconds, you see the pilot door open and the pilot now has the rifle. He is the guy shot.

Lars wearing a green jacket and a fur hooded parka like in the beginning blows up with the chopper.

  • @snake2006 Absolutely right, but everyone knows Lars is such a total hardcase that he absorbed that explosion. Then he was forced to hide since he couldn't speak a word of English. It was him Childs saw at the end of The Thing 1982. Man I could happily sit and watch a Thing remake with Lars just fucking around outside Outpost 31.

  • @kff

Lars is Sebastion Shaw now? :)

  • @rehzon ;)

  • @rehzon May the Blood Test be with you ;)

  • @mordigoth

Lars dies by his own hand. He is the guy who drops the grenade, the pilot is shot by Gary.

  • @snake2006 This video is mirrored, Lars is killed in the base. His hands may have been frozen, the pilot jumps on the ground and rummages for the grenade while Lars storms into the base and is shot.

  • @mordigoth

No watch it again. The pilot has the rifle the whole time when he gets out of the chopper.

Watch the guy with the fur hood, that guy is Lars. You can even see the fur hood when the guy is digging for the grenade.

  • @snake2006 Well in any case, at lease there deaths were instant, and they weren't taken over by the thing.

  • @mordigoth

Lars is too awesome for the Thing, hence why he never got taken over.

The Pilot shouts too loud, scared the Thing off.

  • @snake2006 I think it was still meant to be Lars. I heard that John Carpenter said, I think on the DVD commentary, that this was a mistake they made, and it was always meant to be Lars who got shot!

  • @rjbetty84

Actually the DVD commentary for the 82 thing confirms its not.

The person playing Lars is Larry Franco, Carpenter mentions him by name.

Then after the chopper blows up, Kurt Russell mentions the other guy is Norbert Weisser. Kurt couldn't even pronounce the last name, Carpenter stepped in and did that.

    It's not a mistake.

The mistake is in the prequel.

  • @snake2006 but dude how come then the goggles change when the pilot is wearing full black goggles and the shooter is wearing the goggles with a line in them then when he gets out the goggles are the same some wat im saying is that lars is one who got shot even look at this site called "the thing wiki" it will tell u

  • @nicothemarine

Because when you see the pilot in the chopper flying that is a actual pilot in real life. But when it lands you see Norbert Weisser's character come out of the pilot side of the chopper. Then you see Larry Franco's character get out, with the grenade, and he blows up. Norbert Weisser who can speak fluent Norewgian is the guy who is then shot by Gary, and that character is the pilot not lars.

I don't care what the Thing wiki says, it's wrong.

  • @snake2006 fine god u got your opinion i got mine so just leave this whole ordeal alone

  • @nicothemarine

It's not a opinion. A opinion would be I like chicken and you don't like chicken.

These are stone cold facts as seen in the 82 movie. We physically see Lars blow up with the Grenade. Lars being played by Larry Franco, the DVD commentary confirms it.

Also, the man who is shot comes from the pilot side of the chopper. He is played by Norbert Weisser who speaks Norwegian, he is the man who is shot.

It's not opinion it's fact and I won't leave it alone. YOUR WRONG

  • @snake2006 god who cares they both die alright hands down so just leave it!

  • @nicothemarine

No, your just mad because I WON. I got facts backing me up, Stuart Cohen shuts both you and the arrogant prick of a director up. Facts are facts, Lars dies by Grenade that HE dropped and the Pilot is shot. Now the ending of this make the 82 movie make no sense because the pilot wouldn't be so concerned about killing the dog if he never experienced the Thing. Its wrong and you just don't want to admit your wrong. Admit I am right and I drop it.

  • @snake2006 Ok, I just watched the original scene, *It's been ages since I saw the original* But I thought Lars pulled the grenade and the pilot died by the grenade going off.

  • 0:41

    Is that Adam Sandler?

  • @BlueEchoe5 holy shit it does look like him

  • @BlueEchoe5 LOL...that was the same I think when i saw the pilot XD

  • START DE JÄVLE HELIKOPTER NU! :D

  • I just wish they used a similar looking dog but then yeah it can change shape

  • So fucking glad I didn't get up and leave early! Best part of the film right here!

  • @KingNothing9764

It would have been if not for the fact that Lars costume is wrong. He should be wearing a fur hooded parka like the guy in the 82 movie. Plus this contradicts the original movie since it was the pilot who is shot in the 82 film not Lars. Lars blows up with the chopper.

  • @snake2006 No he doesn't! Look closely!

  • @CraigNdayday27

Yes Lars does blow up. Again watch the fur parka.

  • @snake2006 John Carpenter actually apologised and remarked that the use of Lars was made as both the Pilot and as Lars character. So Carpenter apologized for an inconsistency error, the Director of the prequel had to place Lars in the right side to make his character be consistent with the events of the The Thing (1982).

  • @CraigNdayday27

I love this, I have been hearing that allot lately and I have yet to encounter a single interview of Carpenter's that has this mentioned what so ever. Not even one. I searched around the web for MONTHS after the 2011 film came out when people started this Carpenter said it was a mistake. Yet not even one person nor have I ever produced even 1 shred of evidence that is the case.

So I am politely asking for proof of this, otherwise it still stands Lars blows up.

  • @CraigNdayday27

All you have to do is PM me with the link proving this, and I will lay off this problem with the prequel (since there are other serious problems as well such as a missing Kerosene can and Splitface now having 2 sets of internal organs in the 2011 film and only 1 in the 82 film.)

  • godamn crazy swedes

  • @Dueville7777 Norweigians, thank you

  • @InfinityPSProduction i guess u never saw the original eh? It was an ongoing gag that mac always called them "swedes"

  • @Dueville7777 "Crazy Swedes" lol. ;-)

  • @Dueville7777 They're not Swedish, Mac, they're Norweigian......

  • they should do a new PC version of this game.

  • @DerErwecker Shit I'd pay a craplot for another The Thing game, A first person shooter oh shiiii- <3

  • @DerErwecker They should make new monster figures really.

  • @DerErwecker

    uh dude.

    deadspace lol

  • @DerErwecker play Dead Space instead!

  • @DerErwecker and for Xbox 360.

  • Now that's what I called an ending to a prequel that leads right into the opening shots of the "original" film (in this case, John Carpenter's "The Thing"). Also the use of Ennio Morricone's famous theme really made my day after watching this film in the theater!!!!

  • @silentrunner324 sure but the final desta naton 5 one is a lot better

  • is this supposed to be a prequel or sequel of the 1982 film?

  • @Glitter234 prequel

  • 2 bloopers on my part........

--1. Goggles on Lars have a single stripped visor,

1982 had individual strips (Asian look)

--2.Both Lars and Matias had beards, not just lars.

  • In the theater, in my head I went "yeah!" 'cause I was looking forward to this scene leading right up to the '82 film. Plus the original theme playing over the scene/credits just made my day at the time i watched it.

  • can anyone clarify if colin was infected? because when they show the up close shot of his slit wrists it looks like there's tentacles coming out but i may be just confusing it for something else.

  • @duchess93 That's just frozen blood I think.

  • @duchess93 In the 1982 film that was my initial thought too. Though, now it looks like his blood had frozen or he had stripped the flesh from his forearms.

  • They should have played "Superstition" for the rest of the credits right after that last shot.

  • the helicoter sniper disliked this video because he couldn't shoot the dog!

  • Brilliant how they link it perfectly to the start of john carpenters "the thing"

  • What's with the faulty subs? He says "Lars, va fan, det är mej för fan!" at 1:37, which roughly translates to "Lars, it's me for fuck's sake!" And at 1:44 he says "Vad fan är det som har skett?", which means "What the fuck has happened?"

  • So this is the end of the 2011 the thing.. But the beggining of the 1982 thing

  • I got just one unsolved question. What the hell happened to that paleontologist woman who was a mamber of the expedition. She got out of the alien spaceship together with the other guy who was also infected and whom she killed using that flamethrower. And then she sat into that snowmobile and the scene ended right that moment. Then the plot switched to this part if I am not wrong. So supposedly she made it to the Russian base they were talking about earlier???

  • @Mikeius07 Her fate is unknown. She might have reached the never-before-mentioned Russian base, she might have frozen on the way or she might be infected by the Thing. Her ending is open to interpretation, just like the fate of MacReady and Childs in the JC movie.

  • @harhan321 She die in the original script, she burns Carter, but there's only ONE vehicle... whose burning with Carter xD So she just walk away in the snow. And she die.

  • DO THEY KILL THE DOG? i need to know

  • @IjustonlysayXD Watch the Carpenter version, it happened after this.

  • @ThePlaystationwii60 Do you want me to tell you or do you want to watch the carpenter one?

  • @IjustonlysayXD - The answer to your question is here: 3I2rDZAJQg

  • @IjustonlysayXD SPOILER ALERT

No. It invaded another base. Watch the Carpenter movie and see what happens.

  • @IjustonlysayXD

The dog runs to Outpost 31, the 2 Norwegians are killed. The put the dog in the kennel after it had been running around all day and it has already taken over someone.

The dog thing exposes itself and tries to take over more dogs. Clark hears it, and then Mac hears it, smashes the fire alarm alerting everyone. Mac tries to shoot it, nothing happens, it tries to escape into the ceiling and Childs comes and torches it.

  • It would have been a parody if it was Sara Palin doing the helicopter hunting. They would have titled the movie "Good Sara Hunting".

  • They had practical effects, Universal wanted to put cgi though. There's a video on Youtube that shows the practical effects and they look amazing, much better than what we got. The cgi makes the monsters look "clean". There is no blood or various liquids dripping, the transformations don't look painful and they're too fluid. That's why I was disappointed with cgi.

  • It's funny, this is probably the best scene of the entire movie, but it's also likely the FIRST thing they wrote "How do we lead into Carpenter's movie?"

Also, props to anyone who recognized the 1982 footage.

  • when will this guys understand bullets cannot kill the thing? even if they killed the dog from one shot, his body wouls transform!

  • ...What the fuck? An ending to a big budget horror movie, and people are talking about hamburger helper? The fuck is with you people?

  • Im 22 born in 1989 of June (go ahead & count it) & what I say has nothing to do with age.

That guy is just another prick that used a food metaphore for a horror film. Thumbs up If that is even a bit true.

  • Comment removed

  • @arlobrubaker IDK if that means your ok with me liking cgi. & Its not like others wouldnt do the same for things they love, its just how I feel.

Well age isnt the point, but ok I guess.

  • @Nightfox00rougehero I apologize for my manner, it wasn't really the right approach to what i was saying. Of course it's okay for you to like CGI, and the truth is if I were some dictator ruling the world I wouldn't ban it's use or anything. It is what it is. I love practical effects and see how they could be improved upon so i admit to being frustrated about CGI being in every movie nowadays and that's why I got sour about it and was snide in my criticism.

  • The Thing is pretty much my favorite movie creature, just the idea of it is so perfect. Know that I also like The Thing very much and my problem with the 2011 isn't the film itself but just a particular hangup i have about CGI. It does look like a decent movie in terms of plot and everything (I've only seen clips but i have no complaints with the acting or anything from what I've seen, everything seems fine there). But yeah, sometimes when i'm moody I'm a dickhead and I admit that.

  • also the transformation scenes, in spite of my dislike of cgi i thought the transformations were imaginative, creepy in concept and i like that they show us what caused the double-headed body and whatnot. Those are interesting ideas and they were shot well with good angles and suggestive editing. I haven't watched it all but i can see that it's not a terrible film. I kind of haven't seen it because I don't want to not like it but i'm prone to hate CGI scenes. I do want to be fair.

  • @arlobrubaker Well I only care about it so badly for THE THING,any other monster films I wouldnt care for as badly.

Thing is it has the only monster that truely scares me,& thats 1 of many reasons why I respect it above all monsters.

& yeah, the reveal of Splitface was great.

    TY & sorry.

  • @Nightfox00rougehero btw, you said you don't have the special features from the 1982 version so here's a link to the making of from the DVD, it's an hour long or more and pretty interesting overall.

    watch?v=Uj2UrkEfZHQ

    watch?v=Uj2UrkEfZHQ

  • @arlobrubaker Yeah,I did until at16 but someone broke the dvd/dvd's & idk why but it took till 2009 before I got another copy & it was in that 4 film "john carpenter master of fear"set & no special features.

    TY for the links.

  • @Nightfox00rougehero what are the other 3 it has?

  • @arlobrubaker Prince of darkness (wanted to get that 1 too),They live,& Village of the damned. Really I could live without They & Village & trade it for special features on the first 2 especially The thing.

  • @Nightfox00rougehero Nice. Prince Of Darkness is actually quite disturbing, very underrated.

  • @arlobrubaker 1 thing I dont get is wtf didnt they try to get more help or holy weapons if even 1 knew it was satan using the bums & the mouth-pissing possesing. I would bring all sorts of stuff to that place. & not that it would work but would blowing up that thing in the room that had the liquid have worked?

  • @Nightfox00rougehero I'm not sure, I'd have to watch it again. Truth is that movie creeps me out quite a bit. I'm someone who is semi-prone to hallucination or disorientation at times and for whatever reason that movie (cool as it is) kind of does more than just creep me out, parts of it cause things to appear in the corners of my eyes...anyways :)
