No one could play virtuoso guitar like Ted Greene. One must be very careful never to say that this or that guitarist is the "best" They all have their own voice. I love Joe Pass too, but given a choice between Joe & Ted, I'd go for Ted everytime. He died young & only made one album, but I listen to it all the time. Ialso studied his book "Chord Chemistry." I only wish he had lived long enough to record more albums, but it was not to be. As a professional jazz guitarist myself. I can appreciate..
people think if they copy someone they will be a clone, it doesn't happen. so they focus on scales, modes and theory and never get anywhere. We all know the same english words more or less and yet we all speak uniquely. Plus some of Ted's voicings are quite the stretch so you have to make easier versions sometimes!
As I read through the comments and have to say , Ted Greene was just a terrific muscian , and person. By listening and marvelling, one passes on and brings forward his influence. So many players and so many ways to play a melody, let all these great musicians influence your play. Thanks for posting Cheers from Calgary
To become great, you need to study, copy and imitate the masters. Anyone could spend a lifetime trying to play exactly like Ted, yet he'd only end up sounding like himself. Ted Greene doesn't sound like Ted Greene because he strived to sound like Ted Greene, does he? He sounds iike himself because he studied the guitar zealously and took musical influences here and there. Style is like an evolutionary process: good things tend to stick with you and bad things tend to be repulsed.
...and lack of style is most likely caused by eager students working off scale boxes, chord diagrams and tabulatures without the slightest idea of what they mean and how they relate to the big picture.
Great arrangement of a great tune! This is what fingerstyle chord-melody is all about. Free flowing tempi, effortless modulations, tasteful voicings, and it swings. Ted holds us to a very high standard indeed.
any way to pay for a transcript or tab on ted greenes like some in love just beautiful namedure@tampabay.rr.com thank you nicholas

Then everyone would sound the same. Not very desirable... - Every chord melody player should learn to play like himself!

i mean, not in a strict sense .. copy the style of someone always is bad, but we can learn a lot of him, is a very special player ..
