  • Anybody knows how old is this footage? I do remember watching this from the History Channel long time ago.

  • The crash occurred when the pilot (Lt. Cmdr John Stacy Bates) exceeded the performance specs of the F-14 he was flying. An engine failed when he attempted a high-speed high-angle maneuver after the flyby, causing the explosion that destroyed the aircraft. Both the pilot and the RIO were able to eject with only minor burns to their upper body. He crashed a second F-14 later and was killed.. Show off.

  • @390bullitt1968 Sorry to tell you but you can't exceed the performance specs of a modern fighter jet at just over mach one and survive when the plane doesn't. You will die before the plane does.

  • Wouldn't parachuting at MACH1 be like slamming into a wall at like 800mph?

  • @MegaFoShow it would rip your skin

  • hahaha i love how the plane explodes at 0:21 and the guy yells "yea"

  • Yaaa , I mean Nooo

  • @RandomHuman1000 dude shut up you need to show respect. They're up there protecting our skies. My brothers in the air force and I plan to join too. We're up here and your down there motherfucker.

  • @IShallNotFall

Till the day you get your pilot's licence your are down here with the rest of us, faggot. You will never be more than ground personnel anyway.

  • @PfhUkJiu101 "faggot"? You're real mature.....

  • @PfhUkJiu101 Spell "license" correctly. You're giving pilots a bad image. And "ground personnel" are the ones who fix what you break on the airplane and make sure you can eject if something does happen. You respect the hell out of your ground personnel or you'll find some bolts missing!

  • @3snowyman WTF I never commented on this vid, u trippin foo

  • @RandomHuman1000 If you read up on the event you will know the pilots did eject safely before the explosion. So yeah they survied

  • he broke the sound barrier, and he broke his plane! how sad!

  • @RandomHuman1000 Why not ?

  • So, what caused this? Was the pilot muslim and his RIO Allah?

  • they were saying "two parachutes"

  • 0:18 Bail out?

  • luckily they both ejected

  • 0.39 im off for a dump

  • Im pretty sure I heard them say "two parachutes!". Doesnt that mean two people ejected?

  • @HesterDW yes

  • @Joncingular are you seriously that stupid? Go to Germany, it's the country with the least Nazis in the world now

  • @Joncingular Im from russia bitch ;)

  • Thats right you're from russia.. Soviet Union cant fight.

  • Did he eject? I didnt see.

  • @kilomango yeah he ejected

  • america cant fight biatcher

  • lol that dude YEAHHHH hes dead

  • I hate it when that happens

  • 0:31 second, looks like huge calibre bullets..

  • "YAY, I broke the sound barrier!"

    *CELL PHONE RINGS*

    "Can you hear me no-"

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

  • this is why thet got rid of this plane

  • The pilot lost one leg in the process of ejection!

  • I'm not sure which is worse. A punch from Mike Tyson or being ejected out of a fighter jet after breaking sound barrier. I prefer Mike because at least I'll be on ground

  • @dokkiro Tyson. You won't lose more than a couple of teeth if he manages to get you well enough. You'll lose limbs supersonic.

  • both of the pilots survived. the investigators said that oil entered the afterburners and the plane caught fire and disintregate. the pilots had burns on hands and face but they we're fine. Discovery.

  • @BrrrAlex It looks more like the F-14 tried to pull a too-tight turn. At 0:18 the F-14 banks right but the quality is too low to see what happens. Do you have a source for yours?

  • @VollyTyrannis yes discovery channel. destroyed in seconds show. after the show i was on my computer writting the comment cause this vid was on my mind for a long time too.

  • Did the jet plane survived!?

  • @090786389410 Had to be scrapped because of body damage and paint was to far gone.

  • vegeta..how many parachutes does your scanner read??

    it reads TWOOO PARACHUTES!!!

  • Jeez I'm glad he ejected!!!!

  • Rip that poor pilot:,)

  • @bradjcl98 He survived , look at my comment.

  • Anyone know the name of pilot? Obviously he didn't make it but just curious

  • @HostileSausage Apparently, according to an identical posting, both the pilot and RIO survived and were recovered shortly after the incident.

You can hear them screaming 'two parachutes!' at the end.

By the way , i dont know his name.

  • @HostileSausage

    hiller.org/naval100.shtml

His name is Neil “Waylon” Jennings

  • Did the pilot survive!?? :O

  • @magnernj5 Near the end you hear them screaming "two shoots.... two para shoots" so the crew got out

  • @magnernj5 Yes he survived :)

  • Don't believe the Pilots actually survived that wow

  • Yes they ejected :)

  • @serpe77capo Wow Unbelievable eh?And ppl say there's no God.This is Crazy man how the Hell did they have time IDK

  • @jozsefkacsa he survived due to skill and good training not God.

  • @atheelogos U know what I meant It's a saying man I know they survived because of their training

  • And it broke him back

  • i think he broke the sound barrier so bad it blew up his plane.

  • what happened to the crew?

  • @skyranger11 DUH...

  • @skyranger11 They ejected, that's the last audio piece "two parachutes, two parachutes!" The pilot, LT Commander Bates later crashed another F-14B into a suburban neighborhood and killed 5 people including himself.

  • @TecDiver05 Kinda makes one think was Bates just a unlucky sob or should have not have had wings?

  • @JDub3799

    Don't Americans always scream YEAH?

  • @bothis don't swedes always leave dumb comments?

  • I miss the f-14 it was my favorite jet

  • @MisterSeaCow Same here although alot of that stems from me watching top gun as an 8 year old boy lol. Still, theyre a great looking fighter. I think Iran still uses the ones it has ironicly enough.

  • Oh my God that was insane(not in a good way)

  • Comment removed

  • hit number 5 on keyboard or watch 0:22 sec to see the guy that enjoys watching peoples pain

  • Such a shame to ee a bad ass fighter like the F-14 go down like that, My guess is that it was an F-14A with the old pratt and whitney engines on it and it had a very catistophic compressor failure. Still glad to hear that the aircrew survived though. Hopefully they were not grounded by their injuries for long.

  • oh duh.. didnt read down enough on comments. Both guys survived. Thats pretty awesome.

  • Wow. Least the pilot died doing what he loved the most. :(

  • the guy who screamed YEAH!! thought it was successful which it wasn't but u can here him say "deployed chute!!" near the end

  • This accident is very curious so i made a research if those Flyboys survived

20 September—Just after making a supersonic pass close by the starboard side of the USS John Paul Jones, F-14A-110-GR Tomcat, BuNo 161146, 'NH 112', of VF-213 from the USS Abraham Lincoln, explodes in flight from catastrophic compressor failure, both crew ejecting, suffering burns to the upper body. Crew recovered.

    -wikipedia

  • @Gamea650 thanks for the update on if the pilots survived.

  • Americans lol a joke!

  • Luckily the Aircraft crew survived the explosion.

  • can someone tlel me what happened... why did it explode? thats fucked up

  • @LP640Murcielago are you dumb

  • @everythingkid1 fuck you? Im asking because the F14 is designed to break the sound barrier, so for it to explode when it attempts to break it seems to be a design flaw and I wanna no what happened? im not dumb man fuck you im interested in the cause of the explosion and why it happened?.....

  • @LP640Murcielago Cause it was made in china...

  • @LP640Murcielago The piece quotes by Gamea650 said compressor failure. The compressor in a jet engine is basically the fan at the front. It sucks the air in and compresses it, which makes it hot so that the fuel ignites on contact. It spins at very high speed, so if that fails, pieces go flying and tear up the engine and aircraft.

  • @No1sonuk hmmm cheers mate sounds good. do you no why that would happen while it was trying to break the sounds barrier??

  • @LP640Murcielago I gather that particular model of engine was prone to problems. The extremely high rotation speed, and the shock/vibration of breaking the barrier must have weakened it.

  • @No1sonuk ahhh right makes sense cheers mate

  • THAT WAS CLOSE MAVERICK AND GOOSE!!!!!

  • yeah its all fun until someone loses an eye...haha stupid americans

  • Still a cool looking jet from the rest! F-14 is always going to be my favorite jet fighter.

  • @Spionsilver 2 parachutes=two live pilots they were yelling it over and over because the pilots survived

  • god..why re they yelling 2 parachutes over and over again..the commander very well will know that there are 2 parachutes there and will start the needed routine..even without your stupid yelling..

  • Did the pilot survive?

  • @TrainSounds Yeah i think the pilot and navigator got away safely with only a few injuries.

  • In a period of merely a year and 4 months, we (The Blacklions) lost 4 planes, and two of them were because his erratic flying. However, I restate that he was a good man, and I miss him to this day. Along with the other fatality out of those 4, Lt Hultgreen.

Revlon, Patrick, Buzzard; you are lost, but never forgotten. Rest in Peace

  • What happened here was a compressor failure that exceeded the capabilities of the engine housing, which in turn broke up and forced shrapnel into the REHC liner, igniting the fuel that of course lead to a catastrophic explosion. Regardless of what anyone has told you otherwise, both the pilot (LCDR John Stacy Bates) and the RIO (LT Jeffery Alberson) ejected and were recovered safely. However, LCDR Bates was killed months later in January of '96 when he crashed.

  • did they eject?

  • @XosrovTheGreat I guess cuz after the burning parts of the plane are fallen you still can see one big dot in the sky but the pilot may have been injured by the fireball of the explosion. Not sure tho, I'm just commenting what I see. :)

  • @XosrovTheGreat Both safe and sound

  • Hope the ejector seat worked

  • @zwinky588 it iddnt the pilot died instantly from fuel tank shrapnell through the head

  • @crazypat523 You're wrong. This was my squadron (VF-213) and I was present when this happened. The pilot that was flying was known within the squadron for pushing the plane far past what it could do. He had crashed once before this, and crashed again after this. It was only in the crash AFTER this one, at an Airshow here in the States, that he was killed. He was a good man though, so I'd suggest you kindly shut the fuck up if you have absolutely no idea what the hell you're talking about.

  • @Konigsteiger sorry just what i heard and mean thing to say to a kid whos gonna go in the airforce

  • if you take a look at 0:18 you can see plane is out of control

  • Such a shame...

  • that's one expensive show for the boys!

  • This is a Tornado.

  • was there someone in the plane or was it a drone?

  • @costalot0 There was someone in the plane. The pilot and navigator. Both survived, but having injuries from the flames and glass in the face I believe.

  • WTF is up wid all u nerds bitching I'll I care is that there was something going fast & an explosion

  • @KrackaCapaSlapa And because you only like fast and explosions, is why you probably weren't able to write a correctly structured sentence with correct grammer.

  • so glad northrop cancelled this plane.

  • Wasn't a structural weakness, just a failure because of loading beyond design limits. The F-14A was prone to compressor stall at high angle of attack in dense air (i.e. sea level). He stalled the compressor and produced a ton of asymmetric thrust. The same pilot, his rio and 3 on the ground were killed doing almost the same thing a few months later. Stalled the compressor, plane literally switched directions and went into a house.

  • @Afterburner289 It was not the same pilot as the Nashville crash.

  • @Afterburner289

they fixed this with subsequent models of the mighty 'Cat didnt they? I remember reading the B variant swapped out engines to the GE F110-400 and then the Super Tomcat had even version of the GEs

  • What caused the plane to explode suddenly like that?

  • i hope they lived, you can hear a guy shouting "two parachutes" so i guess thats a good sign.

  • they both lived...

  • who is the asshole tht screams YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! when the plane exploded

  • @JDub3799 im sure he didnlt mean to say it lol. And also around 0:32 u can hear him say "two parashutes, two parashutes"

  • @JDub3799 More than likely looking away, at a mate maybe?

  • @JDub3799 If you pay attention, you will realise that, that guy listens to the sonic boom, and listens to the engine of the plane. As it is supersonic, the plane exploded, and they still were listening the engine, running perfect.

    The conclusion is yours...

  • @JDub3799 Yeah seriously!

  • @JDub3799 A lot of people thought it was part of the show.

  • @JDub3799 lmfao

  • @JDub3799 He didn't know the plane had actually exploded, he thought it was just breaking sound barrier.

  • @JDub3799 probably a russian spy :D

  • @JDub3799 The audio is not in time with the video, that's why the sound of the jet stops about two seconds after it blows up, and people are cheering when it happens.

  • @jacksonkidd Are you sure? Sound doesn't travel that fast, so it's hard to determine.

  • did he survive? :o

  • @xReflect1on yes aircrew was recovered by ddg-53

  • @sweed762 phew i can now call that video AWESOME!

  • The pilot survive i guess.

  • Please tell me the pilot survived

  • You can hear them all shouting "We've got a chute!" so yes, the pilot ejected.

  • is he ok?

  • Actually to tell you honestly, there were 2 unknown high speed UFO and one just caught the path of the doomed F-14. Watch closely and repeatedly @ 0:20. A streak of light just happened to passed by. Breaking the sound barrier will not cause the plane to explode. This clip was meant to be kept secret until it was exposed 4 years ago. But the uploader forgot about the real incident behind it. Watch the direction of the debris. Sorry NAVY but i have to end all the speculations.

  • @pogpog28 Breaking the sound barrier will not cause the plane to explode. Correct. The pilot was faster than Mach 1 well before passing the ship, but when he overstressed the airplane after the pass, the wings separated. There's fuel in them thar wings... and engine intakes right under them. Ignition! Explosion! It's already been said, it's not the sound barrier, it's the sharp turn after. UFO's? Really? Next I'll hear how UFOs brought down the WTC and caused the East Coast earthquake!

  • Comment removed

  • @jmp13090 Just watch repeatedly 0:20 and find the 2 lightning fast streaks of light. Notice the direction of the flames by the time it was hit. Notice also the streak of light before it exploded.

  • @pogpog28 notice he was taking the video with the worlds crappiest camera? they like to do weird things with the sunlight and the reflections

  • @xClawzK0x Nope, he was banking to the right but all of the sudden the biggest & some small debris direction is on the opposite. If it explodes due to stress, the debris should have followed where the plane was actually flying.

  • L O L O M G !!!

  • the pilot lived. they were filming a documentry i saw it on the history channel.

  • this must be why it was phased out of the navy lol

  • if it broke the sound barrier at that height, you would be death...

  • @MrXTHJB ummmm... Why?

  • @rockfilmers From another thread one of the turbine rotor became unbalanced after sound barrier...at those RPMs an unbalanced turbine rotor throws metal blades everywhere...

  • @rockfilmers ever heard a concorde break the sound barrier at 30,000 ft? its ultra loud so at that height it would deafen anyone, that is the air around the plane condencing, nothing to do with it breaking up.

  • @MrXTHJB Wow, I grew up on many military bases. I know what a sonic boom sounds like. Now I live some what close to Kennedy Space Center and I've heard the shuttle many times. And notice You don't hear the plane until after it passes? It's flying faster than sound

  • @rockfilmers so as you know what a sonic boom sounds like, you would realise it would be loud, and there is no noise its just air condensing around the plane.

  • @MrXTHJB The noise is the air moving out of the way of the aircraft. The shock wave forms when air can't move out of the way fast enough. That's why it is referred to as a barrier. Kind of like when you move your hand through water really fast, the water forms waves behind your hand

  • @rockfilmers realise that there is no noise from the plane apart from the engines, its the air condencing a sonic boom is so fucking loud and there is more than 1 "sonic boom" in the video so get it right instead of using wikipedia.

  • @MrXTHJB The hell? I'm not using wikipedia. It's simple. I know that. Is that what you're getting at? And there are two booms I know, but with a smaller plane like this its so rapid you can't tell them apart. The shuttle comes in and they are just a split second apart. The shuttle is much bigger. Of course the jets are whats making the noise, you're squeezing air, injecting it with fuel, and then release it all at once. I've seen a super sonic pass. And I'm not deaf.

  • @rockfilmers technically there are more than 2, but you're right

  • @MrXTHJB Don't you mean deaf?

  • @TheAndypne ok deaf then doesnt really mattee.

  • @MrXTHJB Don't you mean matter?

  • stupid russian spy birds. theyre very smart. you notice how it posititions itself in the jets path to destroy an engine. unfortunately, it succeeds.

  • shit happens, its just a machine

  • @AgentPunisher there's just a human being in that machine, fool.

  • @chuckydog i didn't mean.... fuck it, i said it is only a machine it can fail, but i still feel sorry for the pilot though

  • @AgentPunisher yeah sorry for being a jackass.

  • @chuckydog its, cool, i wrote the anal comment..... and actually i would do the same

  • The shockwaves created by breaking the sound barrier can cause some awful shit.

  • why do some people thumb up those stupid russia comments.

  • @chuckydog Because russia is one the most fascinating nation in the world.

  • Someone had to blow up some F-14s, so we just did it ourselves.

  • Cause? Did an engine disintegrate?

  • its a joke!!

  • @MrHondatrxex Explain how its a joke? Who the fuck would find this funny in any way? Also if it is why is everyone flipping out?

  • Condolences to the aircrew's families

  • someone says "YEA" when it exploded

  • Guys did you see it ?? John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin 0:03

  • Time travel is now possible.... he just flew past the speed of light!!

  • @MrHondatrxex Somehow i don't think he was travelling 300,000,000 metres per second.

  • Tax dollars at work!

  • The speed increased the pressure in the fuel causing it to go kaboom
