@ericjaynelson I would love to go back to colonial times of bartering for other products &services but we're not in those times anymore. I'm afraid if I laid a coupon for "I'll vacuum the church 2 Sundays" in the offering plate, they couldn't pass on a "i'll clean the electric company building 2 Mondays" coupon to suffice the debt. I'm just trying to be logical. I've seen the good works that churches can do with the money (10% tithe) I give and believe me, it is NOT satanic. Love of money is.
@ericjaynelson I'm paid in American dollars. That is what the church pays their bills with here. I'm not going to go to the store, buy something, then give it in the offering plate and put another task on their shoulders to sell the item...for money...to help people. Eliminate the middle man, release your clenched fist from the money and drop it in the plate. It's not ours to keep. My house would be empty if I tithed with only objects instead of money!
@ericjaynelson I'm going to do my part--no, my Christian duty, to support the church in the best way that I financially can and that is fast-cash. I sure hope that I don't see the day where people are throwing anything and everything into the church other than cash, just so Someone else can TRY to sell it. Maybe back in the day clothes and food off your shelf at home was sufficient to give out. My church goes worldwide to serve people in Jesus' name. Can't buy tickets with boats/diamonds.
@ericjaynelson Well, in monetary terms, there exists a rank of liquidity. How fast can something be turned into usable cash? Cash/check/credit tops finding a seller for your boat or diamonds. You make a convincing argument. I believe you that it COULD work. For me it's about ease. It's easier to write a check for a 10th of my pay than for them to sell some old football cards that I give them. The church has bills to pay every month, on time. Charities, programs, missions require stable income.
Thanks for you comments. You know your are right about giving. We all can give something to help in building the kingdom of God and helping others. Remember the widow mentioned in Mar 12:42-44 A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which amount to a cent. Calling His disciples to Him,
He said to them, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury; for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live on." God was pleased with her sacrifice!
@ericjaynelson I'm not saying you are wrong about all of those great offerings. I am 100% for giving of all blessings. That includes the blessing of a paycheck! If satan has anything to do with money it is keeping it AWAY from the bride of Christ. Again, I'm not saying God said, "Give 10% of thy income to thy church." He DID say help the least of these. Yes, I could grab all the food off my shelf but more appropriately churches have funds to go buy food and clothes and build shelters via tithes.
@okfogle20: Tithing money is NOT a biblical principle. When churches teach that you are robbing God by not tithing they are teaching a false (satanic) doctrine. When there is unity in the Spirit no church need not worry about not having enough money. Why would a Spirit filled church want to utilize a false doctrine in the first place? Why not just stick to giving under the New Testament covenant?
The word tithe is in the title yet the scriptures that were quoted have NOTHING to do with tithing money. We are no more obligated to tithe under the New Testament covenant then we are to make animal sacrifices. Nowhere in the Bible did God ever command anyone to tithe money. Israel did exactly what God commanded them to do so they tithed FOOD ITEMS NOT MONEY! Tithing money did not start until 4th century AD; it's a satanic manmade tradition that has crept into the church.
@ericjaynelson Crept into the church...and kept the doors open...so that people can come to a place and hear about Christ and fellowship with others. Also, those funds go to mission trips to reach those who've never been blessed to hear about Christ. "A man cannot serve both God and mammon (money)."
@okfogle20: I see what you are saying but I'd rather just stick to the Word of God! To me you sound as though you believe that tithing money is the only way a person can give in order to keep the doors of the church open. Your statement is a prime example of how deep the satanic beguilement goes. You can't provide one shred of biblical evidence where anybody anywhere at anytime was ever commanded to tithe money yet you believe your religious tradition is honoring God.
@ericjaynelson I'm not saying it's the only way. We SHOULD (whether called to or not) give of both our tithes (money) and offering (other gifts like our time, vouchers, other things you named). You said I claimed there were verses in the Bible that specifically said "money" when I didn't. Think of this: what pays the electric bill? toys, stocks? no. What pays for plane tickets to missions? printers and sofas? no. What pays for general upkeep or renovation material? mentoring with homework? no
@okfogle20: Actually under the new testament covenant little things done with a pure heart like helping a youth with homework will take care of the bills because anything we do to the least among us we are doing it to Christ Himself. Therefore if we need financial blessing His Spirit will see to it that we get it. When churches sell cars boats refrigerators diamonds, etc... on places like U PILLAR (free of charge) they can actually bring in more money. So YES the bills can be paid!
@okfogle20: Giving under the New Testament covenant should not be focused primarily on money. Offering time should be very festive! People should be able to give: cars boats houses land gold silver refrigerators stocks bonds, a box of napkins, a box of toilet paper, free water for a year, coupons, stock options, apartments, gas vouchers, savings bonds, free magazine subscriptions, money, expertise on home repair & improvement, expertise on auto repair, physical healing in Jesus name
@okfogle20: ....in Jesus name, a gift of prophecy, a supernatural gift of wisdom, clothes, lawn mowers, air conditioners, heaters, washing machines, dryers, TV's, computers, printers, stereos, financial advice, mentoring with homework, visiting the sick and shut in nursing homes, organic cakes pies cookies & pizzas auctioned off for pennies on the dollar, toys, video games, board games, cameras, antiques, dish washers, stoves, phones, sofas, tables, rent & mortgage payments, etc...
@okfogle20: Tithing money started in 4th century A.D. back when there were state sponsored apostate churches with thousands of members. Leadership intentionally took the Book of Malachi & perverted it's meaning in order to psychologically bully membership into giving them residual income. This false doctrine eventually crept into the church. This is a spiritual burden placed on us by the adversary. When people stop tithing marvelous blessings happen including physical healing!
@okfogle20: Under the New Testament covenant we are no more required to tithe than we are to make animal sacrifices. If we would allow the true Spirit of giving to prevail instead of a legalistic form of spiritual bondage many greedy preachers who intentionally mislead the flock would bring in more money in the long run. People should be able to give whatsoever they desire with NO CONDEMNATION attached to their giving regardless of how much or how little they choose to give.
@okfogle20: No church truly called of God will go under whether people choose to give or not!!! Lying to people and telling them they will be cursed with a non existent curse in order to coax them into giving 10% or more of their income is flat out disparaging the Word of God. If I am wrong please provide scriptorial proof so that I can repent immediately.

We've found that Tithing to God has seen us through thick and thin.. Even when we pulled in less than $7000 a year together!
