The truth shall set you free. Read Esther 6:4 it explains what a Biblical hanging is. It means to be thrown down onto a tree down below, or steak, or pillar. It did not include a rope.
he was taken down and then thrown over a cliff. and what is with Amebelodon listed above saying Judas is hated by Christians, where is that at??? you mean Catholics? which is a cult. name a video here on tube that shows bible believing Christians saying they hate Judas for what he did.
I, myself am ( dare I say) a militant atheist, but I can still respect Deist Paladin, because he points out the obvious flaws in the Christian religion and understands that said religion is all bull shit. I have to give respect where respect is due
People don't burst open from a fall. Not from the height of a tree, or even the empire state building. It would require a tear in your flesh to do that. Acts goes into more detail about his gruesome death. He transforms into something large and hideous, and it's a clear work of fantasy. If you're doing videos just to point out contradictions, you'd need a whole DVD collection. Scholars are well aware of contradictions. It would be quicker to say what we DO or CAN know about what happened.
@lostn65 Quick indeed. Assuming the Tacitus reference can be trusted, Christians are followers of some guy called "the anointed one" (not even mentioned by name) who was crucified by Pilate. That's it. Full stop.
He departed and went out "strangled" with grief is the way the Aramaic texts have this passage. Judas did not impale himself until after Jesus ascended to heaven. Judas gave back the 30 pcs. of silver to the priests, but, as he held the money bag for the disciples,it would be easy to filch money from time to time and buy a field with this money It is not hard to conceive of 2 fields with the same name; many towns have a "Main St." but it is not the same street going through all the towns.
Did the priest buy the land or did judas, did judas hang himself or fall and bust open, or hang himself and then fall and bust open. I end up throwing the bible too.
Well he bought the land beforehand with an IOU or on credit so he already had the land and then he threw the silver that he had been bringing to pay off the debt and it slipped out of his hands and then his guts burst open and...
You must realize that, according to apologetics, that "hanging" meant being crucified as per their interpretation of Yeshu's punishment in the Talmud.
So not only did Judas buy this land to commit suicide upon, but he also apparently tried to crucify himself. Now getting the nails in, let alone hoisting the cross would have been a neat trick. Maybe Jesus wasn't the only one who could do magic tricks.
Do you think these priests wouldn't lie? Come on now, these priests could have been put to death for treason against Rome. They broke the Jewish law for meeting in secret like that. That was blood money, who would brag about what they did.
According to a gnostic text called the Gospel of Judas, He was the most revered disciple that was given special knowledge by the Christ. He was murdered by the other disciples because of that.
This was a far more interesting story than any of the cannonical gospels.
I love this explanation of Judas' two deaths i heard from someone.
"Judas impaled himself on a spike(apparently that was how they did it in those days........) and then fell off the spike and all his entrails burst out, strange...... Btw, i don't remember any rope being mentioned in the Bible.
I wish every gospel gave a different account of this particular story. It would be even funnier to hear apologists saying something like
"Well you know, he hang himself, the rope broke, as he falled he disemboweled himself, shortly after being poisoned and before he got finally beheaded".
Judas is very enigmatic for apologists. Either he is villified as a traitor, or he is accepted as having fulfilled the required betrayal by turning in his master at his master's request. Since all the apostles knew that Jesus was God, it certainly doesn't make sense to betray your companion, the most powerful being in the universe, OR if he was doing as Jesus told him, it doesn't make sense that he would feel guilt for having done anything wrong. Either answer comes up with questionable motives.
There are two reasonable explanations. One has it Gospel of Judas I believe, that Judas was told to do it by Jesus as he was his most trusted and he was needed to set the events in motion.
The other wich makes as much sense was that, Judas was trying to force Jesus's hand, to have him save himself and smite the romans rather then be killed.
Who story is story of jesus is BS but from a logical point of view those make more sense then the gospel version.
There is a very good series of books by Hyam Maccoby one deals directly w/Judas, "Judas Iscartiot and the Myth of Jewish Evil" another good one is "Paul: The Mythmaker"
I have a memory of when I was a Christian: I recalled that Judas hung himself, but someone else argued with me that the ground swallowed him up. I guess we were both wrong.
My favorite example of gospel inconsistency is the order that God created everything in Genesis. In chapter 1 he makes all the animals and then Adam and Eve, and on the next page he makes Adam, then the animals, and then Eve. Whenever someone claims there are no contradictions in the Bible, I enjoy being able to say that there are contradictions in the first 3 pages.
Heh though there is the one forbidden book that attempted to explain it by saying Lilith was created in genesis one but she rebelled and wouldn't be subserviant to Adam so Eve was made.
It's even better than that. On the first page is the first and, I think, the best inconsistency. God creates light and dark/ day and night on the first day. THEN, God creates the sun, moon, stars DAY/NIGHT, LIGHT/DARK on the fourth day...?
check the footnotes in King James Version...the Hebrew word used in "Let there be light" indicates God did NOT create light from scratch! So who made it them? Hmm....

No, no, no, no.
The priests bought the land and then Judas bought it from the priests.
Then when he realized he'd it was just swampland in Florida and he'd been swindled out of his life's savings, he hung himself.

Well, I have heard that when somebody's hanged their bowels will fall out, but I haven't heard of people bursting open after a short fall.
AbbeyNormal 2 years ago
Well after some days hanging around their bowels might hang out, but if they hang only for some hours i doubt that this would happen.
Their abdominal wall would have to be somehow damaged by some sort of hernia in order for your bowels to stick out.
By the way, did you know that men are 25 times more likely to have an inguinal hernia than women for evolutionary reason?
DeletedDelusion 2 years ago
I must have been thinking of when hanged people void their bowels, not the bowels actually coming out. Still pretty darn gross.

Genesis is not a gospel.
The error in Genesis is probably because of multiple authors, the yawehist and elohist

good point...they probably meant to say "scripture" instead of "gospel"...otherwise they need to fact check.

actually, in the bible i read god creates woman in chapter 1, then again in chapter 2. this could be 2 seperate women.
i'm sorry i have to point this out, i feel like a christian apologist, all dirty inside. but it is what it says nonetheless.
