  • A very good interpretation of this piece.

  • koopman, in his attempt to do something "different" with this fantasia, just craped it's overall essence.... i was used to hear a powerful and creepy piece, and here i only hear a carillon, and a little kid trying to sound interesting... terrible

  • @MadamDoolally cool story bro

  • @MadamDoolally Bear in mind that this person is one of the most educated individuals in the world in baroque performance of virtually every instrument, especially the organ. YOU sound like a little kid trying to sound intelligent.

  • @tristan01101 education and talent for music have no relation.... how is possible that you don't know that?

  • 11111...!!!!

  • brilliant registration, thrasing, tempo and a fab instrument too!

  • He doesn't change the registration playing Bach Fugues at all, many organists that play Bach in a romantic way do it frequently. Bach Fugues sound like a kaleidoscope with lots of register changes, adding or switching off Mixtures and Mutations in the different parts of Fugues, most of those players build up a Fugue to the end so it sounds grandiose in the end with some Reed added so the ceiling is nearly falling down from the sheer sound)

  • bad stops in the second part.. not lyrics at all. And too much contrast with the plenum. I would prefer more balance and unity. But good organist

  • @lorbo77 Good organist is that organist that knows enough to play on your village's church organ. When you talk about Mr. Koopman you must use adjectives such as excellent, great, outstanding, wonderful MASTER organist.

  • Incredibly good, except part two: while technically perfect, a little bit too fast IMHO.

  • 2:27 is so great too. A said, a magnificence peace!

  • well that major chord at the end of the fantasia is no fun at all :(

  • @Camofcalgary Bach was a Baroque composer. In this period harmonic rules were in their greatest development. Bach and other brilliant musicians claimed that sounds of major chords were more excellent than minor ones. But in this interpretation it may sounds a little strange.

  • @Camofcalgary I always felt Bach put an unexpected surprise in every composition. Ton Koopman is superlative. Love the steady tempo. This performance loses some clarity in the thick texture of the fugue toward the end -- I feel he's pushing the limitations of the reeds & mechanical action of this particular organ. But I'm not an organist.

  • An absolutely gorgeous fugue. My father used to play the transcription all the time on the piano downstairs.
