  • Huh, I didn't know they had sirens down in the Burg.

  • reminds me of that movie THE DAY AFTER.

  • i just came back from there!

  • Those suckers are loud....I went to Dowagiac, Michigan to find its sirens, and whaddya know, it was testing day. Whelen 4004 went off and I was only 50 feet from it when it sounded...i jumped up, covered my ears and ran to my car as fast as i could to record it from there.

  • the sirens are controlled from the county EMA office most of the time.. it would be unpractical for them to be operated via firetruck which was reffered to in the video

  • Reminds me of Silent Hill.

  • ha... me too

  • Sounds like it's probably a tornado siren. I think they're more common these days. We sho nuff have 'em here in Miss'ippi!!!

  • Excellent video! I actually went to this siren and took some pictures of it, would love to get a video of it some time, when do they test the sirens there in Gatlinburg?

Also, I heard you say there was another siren on the other end of town, do you know where it is?

  • took a while to see your comment, sorry. call the gburg fire dept, they r the ones that test it. if you go to the last lite in town going towards the park and take a right, then the next left. up on the right there is a brick building, looks like a water dept building. the siren is on top of the pole behind the fenced in area... thanks

  • I bet for a ww2 veteran, hearing this conjures up bad memories.

  • I'm sure that it does. They used to test the one in the top of the court house over in Sevierville every Wednesday, my grandfather would sit at the picnic table in spring and listen. Then he would ramble on stories about hearing this siren's during the war. I wish I had written them all down. Happy Veteran's Day Pop.

  • 0:20 reminds me of Halflife 2!

  • This might be a 4003.

  • sweet Miller Lite getting free advertising!

  • Thnx KidMagic. i made the vid and never noticed the truck. Good Call.. Think they will send me an advertising check? :)

  • originally, air raid sirens were early warnigs for "Air Raids". During W.W.2 they would set off the sirens when enemy planes were coming in for atacks. In the Mid West, they were/are used for tornado wornings.

  • what are air raid sirens for someone tell me

  • Behind the camera or to the right of the video is the river that runs down from the mountains and the Nat Park. During heavy rainfalls and thunder storms, the water has gone from levels of 4 feet up to 10 -12 with in 10 minutes.. Flash floods. There have been times when the bridge at the Ripley's Aquarium has been under water within 15 minutes..

  • I've never thought of electronic sirens as air raid sirens.

  • They were originally air raid sirens many years ago, that got converted to bad weather sirens

  • Is this the same Gatlinburg that Bill Bryson visited, twice?!

  • Who the heck is Bill Bryson?

  • hey i live in gatlinburg and when that siren goes off its a tornado warning

  • Yes it is. It was tested last spring, should have another one coming up in the next month or so.

  • So it's used for both tornado and flood warnings?

  • damn dat was loud

  • i miss Gatlinburg.

  • rwrwrwrwrwrrrrrrwwrwrw.

  • sounds like an ambulance

  • the voice of god has spoken lol

  • i have been to gatlinburg once and i loved it.

  • fucking hell, even here my ears hurt

  • Where is the electronic siren?

Can anyone actually understand what is said before and after?

  • There is a small sitting hut across from the ped walk on the street. The pole just behind the trolley stop is where it is mounted... Up at the top. The box itself is 3' wide 4 ' tall.....Never did fugure out what they said. Sorry

  • I was there with Steve when he shot that. I beleive the fireman from the truck said "We will be testing siren...stand by." Then after the test he said "This concludes test" There are two of these in Gatlinburg on at each end of town.

  • damn! this must be fuckin loud?

  • very cool.. i was wondering if we still had those in towns

  • was the siren on top of that telephone pole in the street???

  • if its next to the water well how come i don't see it

  • the water is behind the camera man

  • lol sounds like charlie brown's teacher talking over the siren

  • Hey, I was there for vacation in July! lol

  • haha only in gatlinburg tennessee!!!

    Sevier county

  • It was gatlinburg in mid july and i just hit town and my throat was dry, I thought i'd stop and have myself a brew

  • at an old saloon on a street of mud there at a table dealin stud such a dirty mangy dog that named me sue

  • ok first were is the siren i cant see it lol and can you tell me a littel what it looks like thanks

  • It is in the center of the screen, across the street, next to the water well.

  • i wanna get a friend from USA!!?

  • Hey, I have been busy off for a while. Drop me your email addy or myspace page, connections are great... steve

  • I never ever hear the alarm. I suppose when they test it I'm at school.. but i dunno.. =/

  • where is Gatlinburg?

  • You really don't know? It is in East Tennessee, USA.

  • i´m from finland! how could i know?

  • Sorry, Did not realize where you are from. Very Cool though, what brought you to the video? Thanks for the comment, Steve

  • well steve, i really don´t know what´s so "amazing" about air raids (flood sirens/tornado sirens) but i love them:D what brought me into this video was probably that we have one air raid siren/s near our house and i wanted to find more videos about sirens and i have noticed that the most of the videos about sirens on youtube are from the United States. Cool video though...

    Jasu

  • did you get that steve?

  • I can barely see the siren, but it sounds like a 3016. What was said at the beginning?

  • I hate Whelen sirens with a passion. That sounds so stupid when they cut off abruptly like that.

  • Is this siren tested weekly? If so what time is it tested?

  • This was the first time it has been tested in a while. I think twice a year. It is only used for flood warning now, Gatlinburg has been under water suddenly in the past 10 years from flash floods.
