  • I think this video was helpful and informative all except it wasn't explained how much of each product to use. Thanks for the tip nonetheless :)).

  • Can we see your hair to see how well it works or some one with the same hair type that used your home made regimen.

  • hey, umm is that a food processor that u used to blend the products together?

  • it looked deliciously creamy :D

  • Where do you store this mixture? How long will it stay fresh?

  • @kashaiya213 - I keep it in a cool place...not necessarily in the fridge but you can do that as well. I tend to make as much as I know I'll use, so I have no idea what the real "shelf life" is.

  • Does the rose water separate from the shea butter??

  • @lahana24 - It depends on the order in which you add the ingredients. Since this video was impromptu, no measurements were taken.

  • @MzTeaCake - I made this lotion, but I used the aloe juice and it separated from the mixture. Have you ever used an emulsifyer or emulsifying wax to bind it together, if not how do you stop if from separating?

  • Instead of using body lotion I substituted my favorite leave in conditioner. Great recipe!

  • This made my hair really dry and brittle...oh well.

  • @AtaroMorelia - Unfortunately, if you don't mix the proportions correctly...I'm sure that could happen. It's also unfortunate, that when I made this video, I didn't measure so I couldn't tell people exact amounts.

  • put it in a bottle and sell it

  • @rx8694 - Some day...hopefully, I will.

  • Wonder if there is something like this for 3a hair..

  • @MyXdChiick - I'm sure it would depend on how much of each ingredient you placed in the mixture. For 3a, I'd probably add more lotion and less shea butter. It's all trial and error anyway...when you're looking for the right product for your hair type. Good luck!

  • @MzTeaCake - I made this lotion, but I used the aloe juice and it separated from the mixture. Have you ever used an emulsifyer or emulsifying wax to bind it together, if not how do you stop if from separating?

  • I have 4a which is very dry. I always wondered how to make this mixture.

    Thanks for sharing.♥

  • do you know where to find the old formula of nubian heritage lotion?

  • How much shea butter do you think you use a month/a year? I need to stock up while travelling. Thanks.

  • why did you use skin lotion in your mix?

  • I've been looking for something like this to make for my 4B hair. How much of everything did you put in there?

to Joshi8 does the softness last??

  • Do you use an oil after applying this to your hair for sealing or is it kind of an all in one concoction?

  • Comment removed

  • :-( hmm, mine came out very lumpy . No matter what I tried or added didn't help. It actually ended up separating...

  • Please ignore that last comment of mine. It was meant for a different vid. Thanks.

  • Good video, but I do question if many of the woman in it actually are natural B types.

  • It looks so creamy!!!

    Cannot wait to try!!!

  • is this stuff more moisturizing than miss jessie's buttercreme?

  • Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

  • I was wondering what is the capacity of the processor? How many cups can it hold?

  • Does this define curls? And I was wondering how much of each ingredient is used?

  • Does this define curls? And I was wondering how much of each ingredient is used?

  • This looks amazing but what are the portions? :-(

  • Where can I get your little mixer?

  • I saw the mixer at Aldi's

  • I'm gonna give it a try my hair tend to be super dry these day and i'm not finding a good moisturizer (the organics one is the better i can find) thank you for the recipe.

  • Thank you for posting this video... I am just starting out natural and my hair is super dry. I believe that I have type 4b hair. It gets so dry and brittle, it feels like hay! lol I am def going to try your mixture because I am slowly finding that there is no product out there that is helping me. So, thanks I thought I was alone for a moment.

  • where did you find that mixer? too cool

  • @Naturalgurl1 its a small food processor you can find it at wal-mart, kohl's, or target

  • I saw the mixer at Aldi's

  • Could I use Raw Cocoa butter in this. did it make you hair soft, cause i have the same range hair type

  • I never new honey was an antibacterial agent. Wow! :D

  • Looks Yummy! Diggin the music

  • thanks for another hair recipe to add to my collection:-)

  • How much of each ingredient do you use?

  • Thank you very much for this! I am going to try to make this over the weekend. I have really dry hair and I have been using Qhemet Olive and Olive Heavy Cream and it works well. But if I can not get a hold of it I want an alternative! Thank you! (And I actually like the music but I like Euro-Darkwave LOL)

  • I meant Amla and Olive Heavy Cream. I love it but sometimes it is nice to try something homemade!

  • I will be trying this soon........ I am so sick of trying to find something that will moisturize my 4B hair.

  • cani use this for my skin too?

  • wow...nice! I need to try this due to my hair being dry, and still haven't found anything.

  • I have 4a/4b hair too! I am just seeing your video for the 1st time today, but I made my own home concoction about 3 weeks ago! LOL! We use almost the same products, except that I add avocado oil and I don't use rose petals rose water. I agree with you it's my favorite moisturizer and i find that it is also a lot cheaper to make my own! BRAVO!

  • I have really dry 4b hair and I live in Canada so the cold climate makes my hair even more dry and brittle. I decided to make my own mix one day and ended up with something like what you have except I used Giovanni direct leave in as my cream instead of your papaya lotion and I also didn't have any rose water but I added rosemary oil and tea tree oil. Honestly, nothing has ever made my hair feel so soft.

  • That's awesome! You did what the video was meant to do. I wanted people to get the jest of what kind of moisturizer could be made on your own with the supplies you have locally. I'm so glad it worked for you. It's been over a year since I posted that video and that moisturizer is still my number one product to use on my hair. )

  • this is a leave-in moisturizer? plastic cap on your head, for the heat to pentrate or just wash, moisturize and go?

how many tablespoons of the oils? or eye-ball the mearsurements?

  • This was a one shot "happy accident". I was frustrated and decided to mix my OWN moisturizer and it happened to work perfectly. This is a leave-in, moisturize and go. I've used it ever since...and this video was made LAST year. lol

  • What does rosewater do for your hair?

  • Helps retain moisture in your hair.

  • awesome

    i'll try that combo

i have such dry brittle hair it takes a lot to keep it from splitting

i've been using Moroccan Argan oil

they call this stuff liquid gold

    it really is

  • I've heard of Moroccan Argan oil but never used it. Maybe I'll try it some day. Thanks!

  • I've tried so many home-made lotions and potions for my mega dry hair and guess what - so far nothing has worked. Sorry to rant. I just wonder if I'm the only person who's yet to find their "miracle cure".

  • I've been where you are. This mixture is what I've used for over a year and it has never failed me. I've also never gotten a bad report from other people that have mixed it and used it.

  • You are definitely not alone!

So far all I know is that if it's something everyone is raving about it will NOT work for me at all, but it's still a start. :-)

And it's nice to see what works for other people to if only just to get ideas.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

  • did you try this one moisterizer yet.?

  • Nope, you're not the only one. My hair is not only brittle, my scalp is also very itchy and my hair breaks a lot. I'm desperate!!! :-(((

  • I havent had the guts to try this moisturiser. I've found of late that veg glycerin gives me loads of spots and I'm too vain to have that keep happening so have cut it out totally. As the weather has changed I've resorted to cornrows for a few months and will see how things go after that. MzTeaCake, you're so lucky to have found something that works for you. And good luck to those (like me) who are still trying.

  • I just braided my hair. My hairdresser said that one should never wear an afro out in the open in the winter. And I never moisturized my hair AND I have been using too many different hair products. I'm glad I braided my hair, because I lost about half of my hair and I was getting really desperate. Around May next year I take the braids out, well I'll braid it about 2 more times.

  • @youngmumma When you say spots are you saying bald spots? The glycerin did that? I was thinking about trying it but thats crazy.

  • Looks like a mayonnaise mixture.. do you have a video with the results..

Can't wait to try it on my type 4a relaxed hair..went to that website and now I know what hair type I am .

    Thanks.

  • Any video you see...I'm using the product. I don't use much of anything else. I love the product I created!

  • I think you created a great product and I will be trying it on my hair...

    Thanks, warm regards,

    Kimberly

  • Also forgot to ask, Do you put essential oils in your water and vegetable glycerin mix?

  • No, but you can if you like.

  • Thanks for this vid! I have this hair type too!!!

  • I get confused on how often one should use moisturizers. I have 4b, 4c hair I believe. Should I use a daily moisturizer or should I use a weekly moisturizer? I dont know how to measure and mix essential oils either? Should I use water with the carrier oils and essential oils?

  • Alot of that depends on what the climate is like where you live. My hair requires moisture on a daily basis. For instance, I'll use this mix on a Monday and use a veggy glycerin and water spray to spritz it daily and it works wonderfully for me.

Essential oils usually have instructions on the bottle. Typically a small amount (6-8 drops) is enough.

  • Do you just rub it in or wash it out?The one you use on Monday that is...

  • It is a "leave-in" moisturizer.

  • Me and my daughter hair is dry and brittle and i don't know what our hair type is, i'm just trying to transition from the perm.

  • It's probably type 4. I placed some links in the video and in the description if you wanted to know more about hair types.

  • for all those trying to grow your hair long i suggest putting it in braids, then using coconut oil evry other day to your scalp but first put a leave in conditioner on the scalp then the coconut oil, and drink soymilk with strawberries, blueberries, and flax seed and buy this product called biosil, it's this fishy like smelling thing and you mix 6 drops of it either on a spoon with some of the milkshake or put it in the cup. you're hair will grow so much. biosil is wonder for skin hair and nails

  • Braids are not the remedy for everyone. My hair doesn't take to braids very well at all...however, I DO use the moisturizer in this video faithfully, I already eat organically grown fruits and veggies, I've drank nothing but soy milk for the past 10 years, I haven't eaten red meat in about 12 years and I take a supplement called, "Biotin". So I guess we're on the same page, eh? LOL

  • Hi Silente, where did you get the biosil to buy. Does it sell in the pharmacy? And do you drink this milkshake everyday?

  • cool thanks for responding. Adding to my favs.

  • Can u tell us what was in the processor in the beginning and how much of the ingrients you used.

  • Unfortunately I don't know the amounts. This was all a "happy mistake". I just decided to film me mixing stuff. I had NO idea it would work so well and become so popular.

  • This looks great just wanted to ask...Is it a leave in?...cus Im having trouble finding a great leave in over here in London

  • Yes...it is a leave in and works well with a vegetable glycerin and water spray from day to day.

  • Thank you.... I'm definitely going to try it.. :)

  • Can u tell me where to find these products?

  • I found them at local markets in my city, but I posted internet links in the description.

  • you know i've been searching products for about 6months trying to see if I could do something natural..but this makes sense..it's only seems natural to use something natural on natural hair..great video..i think i have a winner..

    great job.

    AJ

  • Great video. Thank you!

  • For all african american women ATTENTION: I had accidentally stumbled on this product, but before I tell you more...let me say that it will give Apoghee, pantene, dark &lovely, pink lotion etc. a run for their money. Try "Avalon hand and body lotion." There is a key ingredient called beta glucen that protects the skin/hair shaft by providing a second coating. I highly recommend using this lotion on your hair. It's none greasy and after straightning gives it A SILK POLISH FEELING.

  • why the lotion\??????

  • Look what I found...

"Silky Souffle" on Naturellyfe, dudettes... its made of THESE ingredients!! I bought it. Can't wait to test it out!!!

  • Please do another video. Love you and god bless

  • I would like to know what products do you think keep the natural hair from being hard?

  • Oh one more question, why skin lotion for a hair moisturizer?

  • Because the contents are organic and the same contents used in most hair products.

  • Actually to be more specific the main protein in hair is keratin but it is also found in skin so the products for skin usually work iin hair as well as long as it isnt loaded with petroleum and all othe other pore clogging substances.

  • Thanks MsTeaCake, I can't wait to try this recipe

  • hey just a question---I didn't see how much aloe vera gel you added to your mix---can you give me an estimate? This recipe looks great!

  • Wow, I really like this recipe MzTeaCake. I already have 90% of the products you used. I might substitute the skin lotion with Wen Fig cleansing conditioner though since it can be used as a hair moisturizer or I might just try to find the lotion you used. IDK, I'll see. I do want to try this recipe though. Thanks again for sharing it.

  • Fabulous tutorial! Can this blend be used as a facial moisturizer too? Thanks.

  • Might be a little too oily for the face.

  • Thanks for this video.

I made my own concotion using some of these ingredients and the results are amazing.

Next time I will use all of your ingredients and test is on my hair...which I'm sure it will do just fine.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Love this recipe. Gonna try it when I can accumulate the ingredients, mango coconut lotion sounds heavenly. Never seen vegetable glycerin be4. It looks so good like cake batter. Thanks 4 sharing

  • Thank you MzTeaCake for being so generous to share this receipe with everyone. i now use this as a moisturizer in my regime and i love it :o)

  • Can this be used a deep conditioner??

  • I think the characters in my webseries would love to meet you

  • LOL!! Uh...my products are for kinky, curly, coily hair, I don't think you could use them.

  • Yeah, I just thought it was funny ;) but you never know!

  • One more question. :-) Can i add any of the heritage lotions? i'm in love with the mango one.

  • Yes.

  • INTERESTING!. i tried to make the almighty shealoe for my hair and i was upset! i felt like i wasted my money buying the aloe vera gel, but i do still use the shea butter on my hair its a greatm moisturizer. Can i use this mixture on my two strand twist of just on my fro?

  • You can use it with any style, at any time.

  • I wonder if it smells good or not.

  • It smells like whatever scent the lotion is that you use.

  • I was just concerned because I have whipped my shea butter with lemon EO and Coconut oil and it was still having a shea-butter smell. So to add something as strong smelling as aloe vera...

I want mine to be an all natural product, so I guess I'll have to buy some all natural lotion online somewhere.

    Thanks a lot for this!!

  • Instead of a lotion that might have different unnatural chemicals in it, a great oil that has a really nice pungent smell is Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Oil. It will mask the Shea smell.

  • Some of Carol's Daughter products are not natural either. I found that out since i went natural. i used them when i was relaxed, but didn't really care too much for them. But you are right, they do smell good!

  • Yes...and I've come to realize the ORDER in which I mix makes a difference as well. Shea butter first, THEN lotion, THEN aloe vera gel, THEN rose water. When I added the gel and water directly to the shea buter, it never "blended" until I added the lotion.

  • i've watched this before, but this time i realized you mixed after every time you added an ingredient instead mixing everything at once. i like that and will try it soon. thanks for posting!

  • i9 have to try this, my hair is sooo hard, like seriously, im gonna go crazy

  • I can almost guarantee you, moisture is the key! Try to find a really good leave in conditioner and don't be afraid to use organic body lotions in your hair. Works for me!

  • Hey MzTC!! I am new to youtube's natural haircare forums but I watch this video ALL the time. I'm trying to figure out if it's for me...I've decided it is. I have very thick, coily hair. I think it's probably 4c. If 5c existed I'd probably be that lol. Anyway, thanks for the video. What's the purpose of Rose Petal Water please??

  • u r 2 funny! i'm the only one that I've ever heard that thought i was a type 5! lol

Rose water is a humectant...moisture retainer.

  • Hello, do you have to keep this in the fridge or you can keep it out without it going bad

  • Because it's all food grade ingredients, it's best to refrigerate it.

  • When should this moisturizer be applied. Morning, night before co wash, after cowash every day. I'm still not sure about this. Thanks

  • Apply it whenever you want. For me...it's foolproof. Hasn't failed me yet. I just use more of it because my hair is longer now. :)

  • It looks like a smoothy...

  • Smells like one too but I wouldn't try to eat it. LOL

  • thank u for this i have been trying to figure out how to get ,make ,afford natural moisturizer for mine and my 2daughters 4a/b natural hair type.

  • Thank you for this video..But why would you put skin lotion in this hair cream..I am so so so lost by this....But i will try out the recipe

  • Organic lotions and organic moisturizers utilize some of the same ingredients. We use shea butter, coconut oil and coconut butter for our hair as well as our skin. And don't forget that under the hair on your head is the most porous skin on your body.

  • What kind of processor is that? (:

  • It's a Black and Decker, Handy Chopper Plus but my cake mixer does a better job.

  • Madam, what's the name of that lotion again (it was coconut and papaya something...lol)? I see why your shea butter came out very soft. I like that consistency.

  • I hadnt thought about making my own "mix" to condition my hair it seems that all the products I've used so far dont moisturize enough or they're way too watery. This looks really good. I want to try it for my dry 3b/c hair.

  • So u rinse it out?

  • It depends on how you want to use it. It can be used as a daily moisturizer or a deep conditioner.

  • Where did u get your shea butter from

  • Local hair supply.

  • did you use this as a dc or as a daily conditioner?

  • Both.

  • I have 4b hair so I am going to try this...nothing except water and another oil keeps my hair from being dry...once it's dry it's hard plus I have a color on my hair. This looks interesting and healthy so I'm going to try it! Thanks Queen for sharing your wisdom. Peace and Blessings.

  • It works fabulously on my hair. It's all I use!

  • Do you have to refrigerate the mixture once its all done?

    -Thanks

  • Since I use all food grade ingredients, I do and I suggest that you do to ensure no mold or bacterial growth.

  • mztea, would it be okay if i used aloevera juice instead of the gel?

  • I use a handmixer most of the time when I make my products and yes, you can just the juice in place of the gel.

  • The recipe looks good but I know cleaning the oil off the processer was difficult. I thought about "melting" the shea butter over hot water and mixing it that way instead of the processor. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

  • just use an electric hand mixer. dats wut i plan to do.

  • Were can I buy these products.

  • View the description of the video. I've posted links to ALL the products used in this video.

  • ANY organic lotion.

  • It depends on your hair type? If you have extremely tight coils, you can use it as a daily moisturizer. If you have fine hair, it can be used as a deep conditioner, pre-poo or no-poo.

  • where can i purchase glycerin water, rose water and acv?

btw great vid its a life saver, although im yet to try it at least i wont be a product junkie, thank u so much!

  • you can purchase all of those things, glycerin water, rose water and ?ACV at traderjoes, or online but you have to pay for shipping and handling which bumps the price up a little bit.

  • Is the coconut papaya lotion a literal skin lotion? because i havent heard of HAIR LOTION before. and do you think your hair grew faster with this moisturizer than with your old moisturizer? Thank you for the video. :)

  • Yes, it is a literal skin lotion with organic ingredients. I've never used anything else as a moisturizer...ever. I often use organic lotions and body washes in my hair because the ingredients are more natural than in typical shampoos and conditioners.

  • I think I put too much glycerin in mine cause it' a bit stickier than i expected. I have to find a way to cut it with something to tone down that sticky feel.

  • If it's thick, it's probably not the glycerin but maybe the amount of shea butter you used. Try blending in aloe vera gel or water.

  • It's not thick it's sticky...like honey/glycerin sticky. Not when you touch it at first but that's the after effect it leaves on my hands which I guess is also what is on my hair. I will try to cut it with something else...perphaps my old afrodetangler mixture. I'm afraid if I add water it will just separate (water/oil).

  • That sounds like too much honey. I've done that before and it was actually the Nubian Heritage lotion, glycerin and aloe vera gel that made the stickiness go away. You really don't need that much honey. I will typically use 1 T for an 8-10 oz batch. Unfortunately, with this video, I didn't measure because it was an experiment that just happened to come out right.

  • that stuff looks good enough to eat! LOL

definitely saving this vid for future reference.

  • Believe it or not, it's the only moisturizer that I've ever used on my hair since I cut it in May 2008. It's saved me a heckuva lot of money.

  • do u store it in the fridge?

  • Yes, but you don't have to. Refrigeration prolongs longevity.

  • oh one more question. wont the honey make it sweet and sticky? i wudnt want ants crawling all over me!

  • No. There's not enough honey in the product to attract insects.

  • Awesome vid girl! I've been trying to find the right combo for my 4b/4c hair. I will most def hafta try this recipe. ;)

  • It is my STAPLE product and has NEVER let me down. (And I've saved a lot of money too...from not being a product junkie!)

  • great vid. can you tell me your weekly routine. do u cowash, dc, moisturize and oil more than once a week. I am trying to figure out what order I should do things and how frequently.

what do you do on day 2 or 3? I am trying to determine if I seal everything with oil on day 1 do I have to cowash and repeat or can I continue to moisturize and seal with oil for the remainder of the week. seems to me, that I do if I am sealing with oil. i have 4A/B hair like yours and I am trying to stop breakage,

  • i am interested in your weekly routine. after cowash, deep condish, seal with oil or do you apply your moisturizer? then do you apply moisturizer all week or do you start with a co wash and do it all over again. I am trying to figure out the order of operations, ie cowash more than once a week, then moisturize and then oil. I have 4a/b hair like yours. some nights I sleep with a bag on my head to bump up the moisturize. that is fine for a day or 2 - then my little hair will break for no reason.

  • so, do u sell this wonderful mixture?

  • Sorry. No, I don't. :)
