I agree the movie looks like it's going to be amazing. And from what I can see it looks like Shyamalan is taking great care in paying attention to story detail. My only concern is Shyamalan's movies are so hit and miss.
If the movie is as good as the trailer makes it out to be I'm positive I (and other avid Avatar: The Last Airbender fans) will be VERY pleased with this live action rendition.

I really dont want to see this. I LOVE the series, but, this movie just doesn't do it justice. They could have followed the story more in terms of how everyone looks (notice Katara's hair loop missing? Irohs belly?) I feel as if they could have picked a better cast and took more time on the tinier details. And, what's up with Aang's arrow?

I'm sayin the character of Aang is a fairly happy go lucky guy and i'm not seeing any of those character traits in these trailers so far. Hopefully they're just not showing it in the trailers to make him look more badass but movies have managed to be dark and funny (eg. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom) most of them are adventure movies like The Last Airbender so hopefully it'll have the signature funnyness somewhere :)

lol, well, believe or not pakistan and india is technically part of Asia, and share a lot of the same culture as their more eastern neighbors. I'm just saying Dante "Rufio" Basco fits the Zuko character more than Dev not because he's east asian but because he portrayed the character for all this time he knows Zuko more than anyone else he is Zuko, and he's also has some skill at fight scenes and youthful looking if I produced the film it would be a natural transition.

I've question for those who support this cast and film. When the time comes for the heroes to infiltrate the Fire Nation, how will they be able to pass as one of the citizens, I mean seeing as how the Fire Nation has become a "brown-skinned" nation? Wouldn't a few pale-skinned "wht" kids standout?
they could've tanned them up and they should've, because living in an ice cap with the sun reflecting of the ice everywhere would make you dark. my problem is with a dark firenation.. azula wont be able to be as supposedly beautiful as she is evil, and a black mai, ty lee.. they aren't even black.. indians think they're black but they're not. they are technically asian but LOOK (which matters) between arab and asian and black.. i'm of south african descent btw...

It's gonna suck. I'm a huge Avatar the anime fan. But this move is gonna suck because 1. the cast is horrible they look nothing like them from the anime. 2. there trying to jam pack the whole first season in there. 3. the story Isn't like the anime that much it looks like its just based on the show. They'll probably make a sequl and it'll be on season 2. And that has Toph in it and they'll probably screw up on casting her also and She's my favorite character. Some anime should be left as anime.

They have certain traits that are usually associated with certain ethnicities but they don't specifically say what race they are. And honestly how many actors in hollywood are of the darker skin variety that are popular? Not many. Ever think it was giving a chance of another race to shine? the casting sucks. it's barely true to the series. It's probably going to be a huge disappointment but i still have some false hope that it might be an ok movie.
IMO: A:TLA Books 1 and 2 were absolutely fanominal. Book 3 was the BIGGEST disappointment (in entertainment) that i've ever had.
book 3 wasnt that bad compared 2 other 2, it just felt rushed. it was too ordered and had a 'lets wrap it up' feeling. i actually admired that zukos mom wasn't found, n whatnot between toph n her parents
book 3 is my favourite - although its storytelling structure is linear in the 1st half, it fills in and makes more story loopholes. 2nd half is chaotic, unpredictable, but all ends balanced in the gang winning/losing
i guess book 1 had to be unlike this because of its introductory nature
i mean book 2 is my favourite** :), also because it had its fair share of motifs, foreshadowing, twists, mystery, suspense, and those 'if that little thing didnt happen, things wouldntve turned out the way they did' moments.., as well as action and non action eps. my favourite battle (zuko vs jet) is in this book, and the scene which captured my emotions (anger) most was at the end of ep 11.. sorry for kind of reviewing the show on ur comment

Yes, in one sense it is just a movie, but at the same time they're perpetuating the idea that the "brown-skinned" man terrorizes the serene/civil life-style of the "wht" man. Ask yourself. If you know ANYTHING about the series, you'd know that the grand majority of the Fire Nation are pale/light skinned, right? Then why make them brown-skinned and of Middle Eastern descent?
Also, this film is portraying the old notion that the hero has to be "wht" while the villian must be "drk"-skinned.
You do know that this movie is written and directed by an M night Shaymalan, right? In case you haven't seen him, he is one dark indian. I think M. night is pretty clever. He's just been dropping the ball lately. I dont think that he would go out to antagonize his own people. These are not arabs, they are Hindus. To most they wont see the difference. And Shaymalan needs a hit; his career depends on it. His last movies have not performed well. I believe he will try his best in this movie.

Zuko is being played by an actor of SOUTH Asian descent. The kid playing Aang is NOT of East Asian descent. He's a "wht" kid they found in Texas. EVERYONE in this film has been miscast. Sokka & Katara are BROWN-SKINNED Inuits not "pale-skinned" wht kids.
aang is a skinny white kid in the show and katara and sokka just got a tan. the only character that doesnt mach the show is zuko cause he was pale and the got an indian guy as him.

What makes you think he's "wht"!? There are NO "wht" characters featured in this series. Only characters of East Asian and Inuit descent, oh and 1 character of South Asian descent (Guru). Katara & Sokka are NOT tanned. For one, the climate they live in prevents it: cloudy skies, freezing temperatures. They are brown-skinned like their real life Inuit counterparts. Again, there are NO "wht" characters featured in this series.

lol, well, believe or not pakistan and india is technically part of Asia, and share a lot of the same culture as their more eastern neighbors. I'm just saying Dante "Rufio" Basco fits the Zuko character more than Dev not because he's east asian but because he portrayed the character for all this time he knows Zuko more than anyone else he is Zuko, and he's also has some skill at fight scenes and youthful looking if I produced the film it would be a natural transition.

ok i thinkg this might be cool. the actors they almost look like the cartoon. the more i watch this trailer i think the slumdog kit is fitting for the part. i just hope M. night dosen't fuck it up like all his other movies i'ver watch. oh and i hope the kid play Saka makes a joke or too in the movie.

I've question for those who support this cast and film. When the time comes for the heroes to infiltrate the Fire Nation, how will they be able to pass as one of the citizens, I mean seeing as how the Fire Nation has become a "brown-skinned" nation? Wouldn't a few pale-skinned "wht" kids standout?

they could've tanned them up and they should've, because living in an ice cap with the sun reflecting of the ice everywhere would make you dark. my problem is with a dark firenation.. azula wont be able to be as supposedly beautiful as she is evil, and a black mai, ty lee.. they aren't even black.. indians think they're black but they're not. they are technically asian but LOOK (which matters) between arab and asian and black.. i'm of south african descent btw...

It's gonna suck. I'm a huge Avatar the anime fan. But this move is gonna suck because 1. the cast is horrible they look nothing like them from the anime. 2. there trying to jam pack the whole first season in there. 3. the story Isn't like the anime that much it looks like its just based on the show. They'll probably make a sequl and it'll be on season 2. And that has Toph in it and they'll probably screw up on casting her also and She's my favorite character. Some anime should be left as anime.

@Shng275, The series never specifies what ethnicity the characters are. They have certain traits that are usually associated with certain ethnicities but they don't specifically say what race they are. And honestly how many actors in hollywood are of the darker skin variety that are popular? Not many. Ever think it was giving a chance of another race to shine? There are more Asian races in hollywood than "brown-skinned." Stop being such a japanophile.

Before any talks of the movie, I saw the interviews of the creators. They never specified the race of their characters.
But they were very clear that the big influences of Avatar are Asian, Inuits, and Hinduism.
The title "Avatar" should already tell you that the philosophy is based on Hinduism.
"Avatara:" A deity coming back to earth in the form of an animal or human.
It was obvious that the hero was going to be white. Its still a hollywood produced film. Thats just how its going to be

There is a simple approach to everything; if you disagree with the movie, guess what, don't watch it.
Shaymalan doesn't need to apologize to anybody. If he did something wrong and upset you, the best way to hurt him is to not watch his movie.
In that way you will be letting hollywood know that you do not agree with him or the casting of caucasians in asian roles.
Convincing people on youtube is kind of a waste.
People will like what they want.

the casting sucks. it's barely true to the series. It's probably going to be a huge disappointment but i still have some false hope that it might be an ok movie.
IMO: A:TLA Books 1 and 2 were absolutely fanominal. Book 3 was the BIGGEST disappointment (in entertainment) that i've ever had.

book 3 wasnt that bad compared 2 other 2, it just felt rushed. it was too ordered and had a 'lets wrap it up' feeling. i actually admired that zukos mom wasn't found, n whatnot between toph n her parents
book 3 is my favourite - although its storytelling structure is linear in the 1st half, it fills in and makes more story loopholes. 2nd half is chaotic, unpredictable, but all ends balanced in the gang winning/losing
i guess book 1 had to be unlike this because of its introductory nature

i mean book 2 is my favourite** :), also because it had its fair share of motifs, foreshadowing, twists, mystery, suspense, and those 'if that little thing didnt happen, things wouldntve turned out the way they did' moments.., as well as action and non action eps. my favourite battle (zuko vs jet) is in this book, and the scene which captured my emotions (anger) most was at the end of ep 11.. sorry for kind of reviewing the show on ur comment

Yes, in one sense it is just a movie, but at the same time they're perpetuating the idea that the "brown-skinned" man terrorizes the serene/civil life-style of the "wht" man. Ask yourself. If you know ANYTHING about the series, you'd know that the grand majority of the Fire Nation are pale/light skinned, right? Then why make them brown-skinned and of Middle Eastern descent?
Also, this film is portraying the old notion that the hero has to be "wht" while the villian must be "drk"-skinned.

You do know that this movie is written and directed by an M night Shaymalan, right? In case you haven't seen him, he is one dark indian. I think M. night is pretty clever. He's just been dropping the ball lately. I dont think that he would go out to antagonize his own people. These are not arabs, they are Hindus. To most they wont see the difference. And Shaymalan needs a hit; his career depends on it. His last movies have not performed well. I believe he will try his best in this movie.

Zuko is being played by an actor of SOUTH Asian descent. The kid playing Aang is NOT of East Asian descent. He's a "wht" kid they found in Texas. EVERYONE in this film has been miscast. Sokka & Katara are BROWN-SKINNED Inuits not "pale-skinned" wht kids.

Then you would've been completely fine with say British actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, whom is of Nigerian descent, playing Aragorn in the LOTR trilogy, or actor James Hong playing Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films. I've a better one for you, if they announced a new Superman film with two-time Academy Award Nominated actor Djimon Hounsou as Clark Kent, would you accept him as Superman, or a "blk" Superman!? What makes you think he's "wht"!? There are NO "wht" characters featured in this series. Only characters of East Asian and Inuit descent, oh and 1 character of South Asian descent (Guru). Katara & Sokka are NOT tanned. For one, the climate they live in prevents it: cloudy skies, freezing temperatures. They are brown-skinned like their real life Inuit counterparts. Again, there are NO "wht" characters featured in this series.
