So, we should take advice from someone who probably has a 7th grade education? Do you have something against good grammar and syntax? Stop watching CNN! Look who was in power during times of prosperity and significant economic growth(the late 1800's, the 20's the 50's, and the 80's). Which president saved the union when it was about to split in half? In the over 200 years that we have existed Dems I talk to can only cite FDR as someone who did anything of any importance.

They will be told it will be temporary. You will also be given a chance to turn in your money for the new Amero dollars. And that's the end of the USA! Thanks to the federal Reserve & Bush

I WILL vote for McCotter - an extremlely articulate, passionate and impressive man. I believe he'll one day run for President. However, I think we do need this bill passed. I want something in it to protect homeowners, stop foreclosesures. I want to keep my job, my home...I need congress to act. Under normal conditions, I'd be against it.But I live in Michigan, and work in new construction (which makes up about one-third of US economy), and I KNOW that our nation needs this unprecedented action.
McJillie There is not ONE thing in the bill that will stop foreclosures. The new bill will make things more dire in the few more years. You speak as though you like McCotter, did you LISTEN to what he was saying and why???
Who are you reallly? Are you profiting off this bill? I think you are!!
Yes, I listened to McCotter and YES I do like and admire him. No matter how he votes, I'm supporting him! You see, I don't think there is an economist to date who knows how to fix this situation. My hope is that, down the road, there will be some ammendment to this bill that'll help homeowners. I read somewhere that about 2% of a portion of that bailout would go toward the subprime fiasco. I won't presume I know the answers. None of us know the precise solution to this nightmare.
I am proud of the strong spine of Rep. McCotter and of the folks who elected him. How refreshing to have a clearly thinker, grounded in American history, at the microphone. Inspiring!
Right ON! Socialism in the guise of artificially propped up "free market" economy = slavery of all hard-working people in America to the state. This is NOT the answer! Those elitist bankers and CEOs who scr*wed up should be massively fined, to bail out their own institutions. Now our government wants to give the corrupt megamillionaires a free ride, a handoout with a bonus: an even more profitable (for them) form of economy: corporate socialism. Forced slavery of all worker bees. NEVER!
The Fed already gave 700 billion to companies without congressional approval. Why are they voting on this 7 billion dollar bailout now? So they can say they were against bailouts? Seems like more posturing to me.
It is folly to compare one good man to another....they have similar beliefs to some extent...and it is the value of a mans ideas that are more important that any man himself.
Thank you, 228 members of the House, for voting against the Bailout.
Stock prices tell us that the $700B Bailout would have propped up the DOW by only 500 points. (Down 777 yesterday, up 250 today).
Hey, Government, STOP interfering in the markets. The only reason for a big 777 point drop yesterday was government interference (Bush promising a bailout that never came).
Anyone who is too wimpy to watch a 500 point drop in the Dow should SELL their stocks immediately.
i am really getting hope people. understand what this bailout plan denial means. it means that over half of congressmen wont go along with bushs plan.this shows people are changing their views and realizing bushs plan to ruin america and create martial law.look at the recent bush and paulson interviews and you can see they are scared.they didnt expect the 700 billion to get denied.things are not in order as they planned and they see the people are going to take them out of power very soon.
Warren G. Harding(Republican) - Teapot Dome scandal
Herbert Hoover (Republican) - Great depression
Calvin Coolidge(Republican) - product of Harding's corrupt administration
Richard(Tricky Dick) Nixon - *sigh* Where do we start? Campaign fraud, political espionage and sabotage, illegal break-ins, improper tax audits, illegal wiretapping on a massive scale, and a secret slush fund laundered in Mexico to pay those who conducted these operations.
can't you see that now there is no difference in parties? Only the dems are voting for Bush's bailouts. The republicans are fighting bush, but the dems are goose stepping with Bush. Have the years of watching the TV blinded you that much??
Did you not read my comment?? I said they are equally bad. I said: 'The Democrats have gotten as pathetic as the Republicans. We are all so screwed!' I was a staunch Democrat. I will now vote Independent for the first time in my life. All of the years of watching the TV have opened my eyes to the fact that we are at the control of lobbyist affiliated with BOTH sides.
the Dems voted for this bail out, not the republicans. Wake up there are no parties any more. It is called a double bind in psyops. You think you have a choice, but you really don't. Didn't pelosi and crew take the house to end the war? well? they all voted for the war. Look up Ron Paul on you tube and watch his videos. The revolution will not be televised.
He's almost there. Now he deeds to understand how our foreign policy also mirrors that of stalin and mao, and how that affects our economy. Republicans are only seeing one side of this thing. They need to take a look at the bigger picture. But, as I said, he's almost there.
Do you REALLY understand the "gravity of this situation", Mr. McCotter?
•That what was once constitutional money backed by precious metals is now just debt to a private corporation backed by the blood, sweat and tears of American taxpayers, and that 96% of the dollar's value has been squeezed out of Americans by the FED since 1913 and siphoned off to the rich?
•That fractional reserve banking and its sidekick "fractional reserve accounting" (i.e. Enron) has created ALL of the "bubbles"?
This financial crisis has forced some Republicans back to their Conservative roots, soon they will see the mistakes of the Neoconservatives and part ways, hopefully it's not too late to save our Republic.
McCotter be a real man tell these criminals that you'll agree to this funding provided the Federal Reserve is either eliminated or privatized after passage. BTW Bush is a criminal and you've followed him in lockstep.
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks...will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered... The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs." Thomas Jefferson
What one must understand is that they do not even come close to giving a damn about the prosperity of the AMERICAN family. How could they? These kind of people have been so insulated from from the rest of our society for so long that they have become totally desensitised to us. They no longer represent us. They only represent themselves and their own interests. End of story. Roll credits. We are being led down a path, step by step, to a society where only a few powerful people matter.
what's the use of speaking your mind after the fact, McCotter sided with Bush while Bush was fucking up the country and this $700B is gone, McCotter knows that, think about it, is it Ellection time for him? he just wants to get ReEllected fool.
after this last eight years, asking for four more is just stupid and an American sucide.
So right. He and the GOP (Grand Old Phonies) were yes-men/women to Bush for 8 years and NOW they wake up? Bull. All of congress is up for re-election every two years, so yes, there is a great deal of self-interest here. But speeches like this manage to fool a lot of suckerz.
One more comment. Up until a couple years ago there wered financial companies pushing adjustable rate mortgages (what they called "smart ARMs") and interest only mortgage payments, the latter of which was foolish for any consumer to get hooked into, yet many people did. I've heard it said that the crisis we are in results from a crisis of common sense, and many financial companies were providing the hooks baited very nicely. Personal finance should a required course in high school.
I have always been a supporter of McCotter and I am proud of him for standing up against the bailout plan here. I don't fully understand all the details involved in this plan and the problems that got us here, but I agree that if any money is spent, it needs to be kept from the executive leeches that helped create this mess. The money needs to go toward helping Americans keep their jobs, pensions, etc. and to help businesses, particularly small businesses, that rely on credit to stay afloat.
I agree with Congressman McCotter! From someone who is cynical about all three branches of government, it is refreshing to see an elected representative who is actually fighting for the interests of the American people, not the special interest groups from Washington, DC or Wall Street. Mr. McCotter, I wish you God's speed.
The Federal Reserve was given the responsibility of maintaining the U.S. money supply. Under Paulson they have failed. They still have 2% points that interest rates could be lowering rates which they control, adding much needed cash into our credit crunched economy; they come to congress demanding $700B. The Federal Reserve should have it's charter taken away and given to the Treasury dept. No president would allow the treasury to create either inflation or recession.
This is the most intelligent assessment of the problem and solution that I've seen to date. Taxpayers should not be bailing out Wall Street, but the free market can and will make the necessary adjustments. The attempt to bulldoze through the $700B package is nothing short of theft from every working person in this country. I hope the House Republicans are successful in materially changing this proposal.
"To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice." - Confucius
As individuals in our society, we have waited to be affected by injustices in order to act. We have looked away many times because the wrong doing wasn't against us. Today, it is affecting the majority. We have to get people informed not by the use of fear but with "truth". There are too many injustices in our civilized society, and it is our duty to correct them for the benefit of all and future generations.
You change the Mark to Market rule in the Sarbanes-Oxley bill. This is what killed Merrill Lynch. Plus you extend FHA insurance temporarily to sub-prime mortgages. Most sub-primes will not foreclose. This way the bail out will be reduced from 700 billion to 40 billion and the government (taxpayers) will not own mortgages. We will insure mortgages that are to be paid back to the government if they need the money for bad loans. This is solve 60% of the problem.
You solve the problem by executing by hanging the people responcible and this will never happen again. In China they shoot them in the back of the head with a .45
give me a break, this manufactured outrage is a calculated ploy to allow republicans to distance themselves from Bush and act like they're doing something, because they know the deal will be struck and they can deny their own culpability in the mess they made in the first place. And their voting base will eat it up, because they rarely remember that their party has been in a position to do something about this for years, and did not.
These morons marched in lockstep with Bush for the past 8 years, approving ANYTHING he asked for, for the betterment of the country or not! NOW they're going to actually stop kissing his and Cheney's asses and stand up to them? Sorry, dickheads...too little, too late! You let this fire start and now you don't want to part with the piss you need to put it out!
thank you for believing in the people and expressing their concern about the corruption that is destroying a way of life so that a few can continue to gouge themselves, while many are struggling to survive.
That guy is creepy as hell, but he's spot on. About time the Republicans woke up. Now, if we could just get rid of all the religious, sanctimonious garbage, we might have a party.
If this wasn't just lip service, this guy is right on the money. I hope this idiotic bill NEVER makes it through, and I hope McCotter sticks to his guns on this issue.
He's my Congressman and we can only hope that other congressmen could be like him. He is really in touch with his people and is most responsive to his constituants. Sir you are to be congratulated!

It is so, because grace has no hidden motive; virtue is its own reward.
And this man carries it in spades.

No president would allow the treasury to create either inflation or recession.

why would republicans want to distance themselves from God's selected President Bush.
And If you don't like communists stop begging communist china for money, hypocrite.

Here's the solution:

It hurts when you're railroaded doesn't it, McCotter? Welcome to your party's America. Hope you had a nice eight year nap.

These morons marched in lockstep with Bush for the past 8 years, approving ANYTHING he asked for, for the betterment of the country or not! NOW they're going to actually stop kissing his and Cheney's asses and stand up to them? Sorry, dickheads...too little, too late! You let this fire start and now you don't want to part with the piss you need to put it out!

more dems voted for this than republicans? Do you have a very low IQ or something??
PatricHenry 3 years ago
Geez, where the fuck have house Republicans been for the past 8 years.
They supported a tool in the executive office for 6 friggin' years as the majority party.
This is the same BS that the administration has been pulling from day one. "If you don't allow us to bomb Iraq, we'll die. And we have to do it now."

Well, if you're gonna go down in flames and be utterly disingenuous towards the very people Republicans supported during their deregulation spree...
...might as well do it with loud words and a little podium-banging.
McCotter is the biggest pseudo-intellectual in the House, with a name more appropriate to the villain in a Charles Dickens novel.
