@epicdude79 That means that your clicking and dragging, you need to just click and let go. A single click and release will make a corner whereas a click and drag will create a bezier curve.

its not working for me.... I can get the lightsaber masked correct, the feather correct, and getting it on the footage. but since i have 6.5 pro, i have to press ADJUST then color balance. But the effect settings have no effect on the glow. It worked fine in 7.0 just not 6.5 pro

I've got a problem, instead of a video I used a PNG picture as video footage, the problem is that I've got a black background on the final comp just on the place where I should see a transparency, any solution? : S

@RAYXNUM1 No problem, I solved it finally, stupid issue, I just I had 3 compositions 1 bright effect of the saber, 2 my main character (a Png file with transparent footage) and 3 final comp, so what I did was adding the Lightsaber light on the final comp and not on the second comp which was the reason I could see a black background. I just posted in case someone had the same issue, it happens when you work with puppet tool and transparent layers. Great tutorial by the way !!

@kevmimcc You know, normally I find videocopilot very well done and effective, however his lightsaber method really isnt very good. Sure the production value on his tutorials are probably better than mine since i through this together in a bit of spare time with a crappy old headset, but his lightsaber tutorial and plugin certaintly do not work as well.

Also, I do not appreciate the disparaging remarks. Helpful criticism is one thing but verbal bashing is another.

@JohnnyMcKinney You're more than welcome to go and try and use a clip with any real speed in it and show me that the motion tracking is a more effective solution. When the prop blade starts moving fast enough to blur considerably, the motion tracker is unable to follow it and you wind up having to edit every keyframe anyways, and then on top of that, you have to also then edit the shape of the mask on every frame. I don't know how you would possible think that more efficient, it's twice the work

@ilikevariousvids It means you haven't clicked the little stopwatch icon on the left before you start moving it around. Watch the video back around 3:25 to see what I mean. Once you do this it'll record the animation on every frame that you change the mask.

I am just creating a lightsaber on top of just a handle, no blade part, that is probably why it is not working, ill find something like you have and use that in my footage and see if it works, thanks for replying!

@Stonka1986 Its a pretty simple fact the a) I made this in 2009, HD Camcorders then were still pretty expensive to the normal person, and b) even I still don't have an HD camera, I was using the schools. Most people don't work with HD, thats just how things go.... calm down

Hi i followed your tutorial very carefully but i am still have a bit of problem regarding the 'mask path' part. My cut out didn't follow the the next keyframe i fixed. It remains at the same axis with its shape changed in the next following frame. This happens even if I shift the cut out to another location and keyframe it.
