  • Cool! The earlier you start the further you are likely to go!! Good luck.

  • learned how to play by myself to play like a pro and im 9

  • Hi, I see what you're saying. Actually in my stupor I do like Mr. Rogers.... he was going places while I was still.

  • P.S. I like Mr. Rogers anyway! I'm 32 and will admit that!

  • Hi, You're right, just thought for once I'd show my teeth.....!

  • the next Mr. Rogers?

  • @rubyspaceship1o1 I see you are trying to make yourself feel better by debasing someone else. It's a relatively easy thing to correct. I suggest you get bullied for awhile, obviously a your'e a sissy...... you couldn't play a lick on the guitar or sing anything....I've got it....the next Waldo, that's who you are.....right?

  • @zuutoo hey you don't have to get "ass-hurt" over a stupid comment ignore it and move on.

  • @zuutoo Actually, I don't think he was trying to be insulting. The truth is you reminded me of Mr. Rogers as well before I even read any of these comments. Similar voice. Not trying to be mean. Just pointing out a similarity. Doesn't mean you are Mr. Rogers. Just have a similar voice is all. People say I sound like Napoleon Dynamite when I talk. Before that movie came out I just sounded like a "stoner." I was.

  • Things this helped me

  • @iidarkbowi Glad to hear this was helpful. Playing one tune repeatedly will surely lead to another.

  • i think hes sounds like cleveland out of family guy

  • cualquiera

  • hi i just picked up my auntys guitar last night and im trying to learn to play it so could u help me i dont know anything about guitars it an acoustic guitar

  • @JamBri98 Hi, thanks for watching my video. In order to play the guitar it of course boils down to practice. I would suggest you start very simple, learn the C, G and D chords. Once you know these chords, how to make them by placing your fingers correctly, you can combine them in different ways and lo and behold, before very long you'll find that you are playing some familiar tunes. About 50% of the simple songs use these three chords in some fashion.

  • dont wanna get hung on the names of the cords, its true what you say "you aint to f ing teacher"

  • Thanks to this great video, I finally get out of just playing chords on the first 3 frets. This has to be the best first lesson video I have seen.

    Again, a heartfelt thanks!

    I have subscribed.

  • @webventures Hi, that's about the nicest thing I've heard in quite a while. I'm so pleased that I helped you out a bit getting started, your comment inspires me too.

  • good job man

  • @timberland1108 Thanks for the positive comment on my guitar lesson video. Love to hear when someone gets something positive from my attempt.

  • What kind of guitar is used in this? And what kind of amp do you use?

  • @fyflishfy47 Hi, I'm using an Electric Ovation Ultra GS Model and a vintage Rickenbacher Amplifier. I love the Ovation, nice action and clean notes. Thanks for asking!

  • omg, Cleveland?! haha

  • thanks man. Im starting to give lessons and since i never took them myself i had no idea where to start. thanks.

  • @bbftbx Nice to hear that I helped you focus on making the lessons you are starting. Good luck to you in the endeavor!

    Gary

  • Hi Erik, It really makes my day when I hear that someone got something out of my video. I can only say, keep with it...don't give up and you'll find rewards galore from playing the guitar.

  • thanks alot for taking the time to make this video. it really helped alot

  • Hi Connor, With 600 au you could maybe pick up an early Harmony like my acoustic. It's a 1950's Model Soveriegn. It has a wide easy to play neck that's very forgiving! Also old Epiphone Guitars are available with a search on Ebay. These often have good tone and aren't too expensive. Thanks for the comment. Gary

  • After breaking my ankle for the 2nd time from bmxing, im going to have to take up a new hobbie. Ive always been interested in Guitar because im REALLY into music. I like grunge/metal/thrash such as Nirvana, Metallica, Etc.

What kind of guitar could you recommend to me? im after an electric 6 string guitar with a budget of about $600 (AUD)

    Thanks mate! Connor

  • 2 complex 4 first timer like myself

  • Yeah, you're right...it's sort of hard but trust me, you can do it. Just the simple chord and moving it up and down the neck.....thanks for commenting.

  • cthis rly helped thx

  • Hey, glad this helped out a little. If you can practice until you play this routinely it will eventually lead you to other things!

    Gary

  • quagmire

  • I'll have to watch this Quagmire guy....hope he's at least humorus!

    Gary

  • Familyguy :) your voice rocks :)

  • there a lot of haters on utube but the description is a bit unnecessary lol

  • Bravo....thanks....defense, defense!

    Gary

  • :( i wish i would have found a video like this 4 years ago..

oh well, its okay. i got by :)

  • Hi, just a brief reply of thanks for the comment on my video on you tube. I appreciate your comment very much, it encourages me to keep playing when I see that others are too....!

    Gary

  • @zuutoo yeah, ive been playing for years now. at first i was soo bad.

ive gotten quite good at it. or atleast to get by with al that. im glad i seen your video though. it was very useful for many of my friends.

  • Hi! I have only just got my first guitar and have no experience what so ever!!

Your video seems like a fantastic place to start as you explain everything very slowly and clearly. Thank you for taking your time making this video! It is nice to know that there are poeple willing to pass on knowledge without any reward for themselves.

I may only have one suggestion, is to have a video where you can also see your right hand and the way you strike the strings.

    Thanks!

  • No my friend Thank You, the fact that you got something out of my video guitar instruction pleases me to no end...great of you to take the time to comment favorably on it!

    Gary

  • thank you!

  • My pleasure, hope you got something out of the vid. Quite an easy rewarding chord progression once you get the hang of it!

    Gary

  • You sound like quagmire of Family guy.But anyway,Thanks for the video!

  • your mean cleveland?

  • Hmmm, that's not the first time I've heard that!

  • @ShockwavePictures more like the smooth relaxed voice of Mr.Rogers! :D i likee

  • Hey, appreciate your comment on my video. It's fun to ad lib but you never know exactly how the end result will turn out...

    Gary

  • heyy

im about to get my first guitar tomorow :)

    im 16

and have never played before and dont know any notes.

this looks like it is gona help me out alot :)

any sugestions on a frst song i should learn on the guitar? a realy easy one?

any rock song wich u think a bigener like me can learn .

    thanks alot

    take care

  • Hi, I'm pleased to hear the video may be helpful for you. It's easy, relatively. A good beginning song would be House of the Rising Sun. Bear with it...you'll be shredding in no time.

    Gary

  • if you don't know how to read music, doesent make you a sloppy guitar player

  • Hey, thanks for the comment on my little video. Yeah I agree, some players are absolutely awesome on the guitar and can't read a lick of music. I'm not a great guitar player but wanted to transfer just a little of what I learned to someone else in this video. Keep playing!

    Gary

  • hey no problem. and yea, i stopped taking lessons and im better when im not taking lessons because im not forced to practice songs that i don't like... and by the way.. you should upload a video with your guitar collection, people would love it.

  • estayiblish? haha

  • Hi, ok....but have you tried to make any impromptu videos....sort of hard to always be on without retakes.....!

  • what cords are u playing here?

  • Hi again, The chords if I remember correctly are Fminor7 moved from the fifth fret to the 3rd Fret on that tune. It's just easy to make that chord and a good one to start playing because it sounds cool!

  • heey 2 days of playiing and i can alrdy play abit and i just experimented with some frets and it was aaaawesome! :)

  • Hi, Geez missed your comment altogether. Thanks for giving me heads up on your progress, hope you are still at it. When it clicks .... it clicks. Please keep playing!

    Gary

  • i don't even know what means first fret and first string...lol, can someone give me a tutorial? btw thx man

  • I've got faith that you'll do just fine...you got the right attitude, making it fun and you are sure to succeed at playing this tune! First fret is the lowest on the guitar neck -- you'll find yourself using that fret often....!

  • thx but now i know what's first fret and first string :)

  • I think you're trying to say the first string is the lowest :]

By the way, for beginners, I suggest placing your thumb on the back of the neck to support your fingers :]

  • just keep playing. I had the exact same problem. you eventually get it. Practice makes permanent. Permanent makes perfect.

  • My first song was hot cross buns lol

  • what guitar is that really nice

  • The guitar is a bit unusual, bought it at an auction - an Ovation Electric Ultra GS. Thanks for noticing it - I love playing this instrument!

  • what about the drugs?????????????

That´s impotan man .You have to get loaded to play...that´s the very first thing:Rock n´Roll!

hendrix,Randy rhoads,Slash.....even Santana which was a sucker anyway, they all ...get high!

  • Ha Ha! These things take care of themselves. You are right though, seems like getting high helped some of the great music you are reefer...ring to!

  • my fingers are to fat..woot.

  • hey there. I am a 41 year old male who had a heart attack and triple bypass surgery. i bought a guitar to pass time and always wanted to play. i just took it out of the bag before i watched your vid. you helped me play my first note. looking forward to seeing much more. not sure if i will ever learn. seems like a lot

  • I'm thrilled I helped you play your first note, that's an accomplishment for me and you! I've known a lot of people who first picked up the guitar at an age of 40+ and most are still playing and better than me I might add. The key is this...don't give up. It may seem your fingers can't possibly fit on the neck to make a chord but trust me...they can...practice, learn one cord, like the one in the video and you'll start really progressing from there...slow and easy, that does it. Thanks!

  • teaching makes you asses you own play.. so teaching is good

  • zuutoo, you might not be Joe Pass yet (don't worry, you'll get there), but you're TOTALLY on the right track and your insight is very, very good. You're a better teacher than most "shredder" guitar players and you're advice about rhythm is spot on. And, BTW, I'm a full time guitar teacher.

  • HiJEKJazzer, Can't thank you enough for the encouragement on my video. You are the one who really deserves praise - as a full time teacher you change lives every day. It really makes me feel great to think that I might contribute on any level to this thing I love so much. Best to you!

    Gary

  • Hi, just noted a dated comment you made on my instructional video. Can't thank you enough for the encouragement. Really means a lot to me coming from a professional teacher!

    Gary

  • I will tell you. I am 29 and just learning to play and you are rite it is hard but you helped me to get over a couple of bumps thanks . keep it up and I will keep watching and learning.

  • Somehow I missed your comment, I'm pleased you watched and got something from the 1st lesson video. As I've said before, don't give up if you get a bit frustrated. It's a slow process at first but believe me it will speed up once you get over the bump or two in the road. I can tell you are probably someone who will rapidly work through the guitar just from you short comment. Thanks again!

  • thanks man ill give you a thumbs up from danny

  • Hey, really appreciate your comment. I can only hope that something I did would help out a very beginner...guitar once learned is never truly forgotten. Thanks!

  • Rockk Onn!!

  • I'm with you, keep on rocking!! Thanks for comment!

  • I'm at this stage, just started.

  • Glad you saw this video and hope that you got a little out of it -- thanks for the comment!

    Gary

  • AWESOME :D Rocking hard :P

  • Hey, can't thank you enough for the positive comment on my video. Really great of you to give me a nudge to keep on keeping on. Best to you!

  • your welcome my friend, interest and love of the instrument creates passionate players ;)

  • carry on brother! great vid, humbleness is KEY to getting better ALWAYS!

  • Thanks for making me feel that I'm doing something worthwhile! As I learn perhaps I can help point someone in the right direction. One step at a time....(:

  • pretty good!

  • %Thanks! Appreciate your comment. I'm definitely no pro but that's okay if I inspire just one person to play...on and on...(:

    zuutoo

  • you sound like cleveland from family guy

  • Hi, I'm a little old for Family Guy so I'm unfamiliar with this fellow Cleveland. Got a feeling that's a cut though...(: Okay, call me Cleveland or Wally or whatever... as long as you get something out of the video!

  • OMG! he does. just the color.

  • haha you're right xD

  • nice

  • Hi, Thanks much for the encouragement. If I can help anyone get started guitar playing then I've done something good I feel. Appreciate your comment and will view your video as soon as I can get my computer fixed enough to read it. Take care.

    Gary

  • I so totally agree with that first part of your vid where you emphasize the importance of rhythm. I found that so many lead guitarists are lousy rhythm guitarists / bassists, and bands that rely only on their guitarist's solo-ing abilities usually tend to suck.

  • Point well taken...I understand what you're getting at.

  • This is made to look so easy. If you see my vids, their clearly not this good.

  • Hi, Belated reply here to your comment. Thanks, it made me feel great! I'll check your vids out as well. If you are like me then you are your own worst critic. Bet your vids are good.

    Gary

  • Yea dude their real good just real sloppy and grunge.

  • it sounds like your not using an amp

  • Yes, I'm using an amp but just recording through the video camera, not very effective!!

  • GOOD JOB BUUDY!5*****FOR YOU!

ps: did you see my new video yet?

    cheers/jesse

  • Hi Jesse,

Yes, I've seen all your videos and remain amazed by your playing!
