@anarchistory, it was Shana Alexander and James Kilpatrick - the parody on Saturday Night Live featured Jane Curtin as Jane Alexander (Dan,you sadistic, elitist, sexist pig) debating Dan Aykroyd (Jane, you ignorant, misguided slut). It was a scream at the time, probably most wouldn't get the reference today.
andy once told zmunda about faking his death, zmunda said it would never work. andy was the kind of person if you said he couldnt do it he would find a way to do it and prove them wrong, and that includes his best friend bob zmunda, everyone at his funeral got punked and andy laid there listening to all the people cry and sob over a prank, AND STILL THE UNDISPUTED KING OF PRANKS....ANNNNNNDYYYYYY KAAAUUUUUFMANNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
Kaufman's skit is a spoof of Point - Counterpoint, a segment that appeared on the TV series, 60 Minutes. The original short segment appeared at the end of 60 Minutes, wherein two idiotic pundits, Jane Alexander and some now-forgotten male idiot, yelled at each other. Kaufman, and later Colbert, offered their own parodies.
@Kramnosnits - I think that his mistakes, slight at first (Looking back the other way before getting out of his chair) and gradually becoming more and more pronounced, are part of his act. Like FreakoutFreakshow started to get at below, I think he's satirizing comedians, kind of poking fun at how seriously the art world takes itself.
@pokeronskis You got it. His whole thing was satire and he spared no one, his "audience" least of all. He felt the same about his Fridays audience, his stand-up audiences and his wrestling audiences.

I think he botched it to embarrass "Friday's" production staff, who probably wanted him to copy SNL's 'Point/Counterpoint' skit, aka: the 'Jane you ignorant slut' bit. They thought the extent of the humour would be him doing it by himself, and he probably resented them wanting to copy other people's ideas so blatantly. So he botched the skit?
I guess what is so endearing about this clip is that so many arguments are ultimately boiled down to silly biases which almost never change to the point where we are all talking heads barking at one another. Kaufman is laughing at all angles--even those he would agree with and its a damn funny thing when you look at it
.... i get what this guys about but, its hard to say its funny. i think he had alot of issues and he expressed his anger through comedy. He makes fun of the social trance people are in and how we act. hes by far one of the deepest and confusing comedians ive ever seen and i wonder if the people back then knew what he was all about.
Do you have Tina's current glasses? I tell you, I will marry anyone with those glasses. Man, woman, beast. Dirty little French Bulldog bookworm tease. Filthy lumberjack slut.

This is great not in the 'it is the WORST ever' way, but in the
'is NOT meant to be good, but to be the worst would be predictable' way. Sort of medium un-funnyness.

It's kinda a shame that Andy was such a lousy actor, like when he "laughs" here lol... Also I think he could've done much more with this skit...
In general though, He's the best..

Just because he did some Genius stuff doesn't mean that everything he did was gold. This looks rather uninspired.

Ironically it was after viewing some of Kaufmans routines in which Reagan saw how sad the arts had become and chose to stop funding it.
Again kaufman shows his lack of rspect for his audience by being unprepared and not wearing his glasses... the guy blew!!
