I would like to say at this point that Mr Spacey's love for Bobby Darin's music is well illustrated by the fact that he, wrote, directed, part financed, produced, starred in, danced in, sang in 'Beyond the Sea' which was a quite brilliant piece of cinematic work. The fact that Spacey's film gave a half true half fantasy look at Darin's life reflected the artistic genius of Darin himself. As a film it is one of my favourites and I would like to thank space comics for uploading it. :-)
Truthfully, Spacey’s version is a WHOLE lot more interesting then Darin's. Darin sings so fast, it’s hard to enjoy the song. His version isn't even a min and a half long. At least with Spacey there is time to really appreciate the song. When I was reading the comments the first time, I had never seen the movie nor did i know what Darin or Spacey looked like, and with you all saying how bad Spacey was I thought he was the singer in the second part. Kevin Spacey has an amazing voice.
I would've killed to have seen some of Spacey's Bobby Darin tribute concerts, where he performed the songs from the film! This was truly a labor of love for Spacey, his love poem to Darin. Buy the soundtrack! It is great. Also, check out the Darin tributes by Dennis Tufano (former lead singer of The Buckinghams) on youtube!
Woah, easy there haters! Kevin Spacey co-wrote this film, directed it, AND produced it. I know you love Bobby and all but if you just take Spacey simply as another big fan of Bobby, that'd be enough to make him a tad loads more wonderful fan than us all! And honestly his voice may not beat Bobby but how could you say he can't sing? He's amazing!
And finally, I hope I'm not the only one who's thrilled by the young and fantastically talented William Ullrich here. The boy deserves great credits!
Well...I wouldn't say Kevin is untalented, he just wasn't right for this part! I'm sure the producers just wanted a big name to garner interest in the movie. Spacey just doesn't have the same charisma as Bobby Darin...No one could ever top Bobby Darin!
YOU PEOPLE HAVE TO BE FUCKING KIDDING!!kevin sPacey IS THE MOST UNTALENTED MOTHER-F---CKER I HAVE EVER SEEN! DO YOU PEOLPLE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BOBBY DARIN??? HES ROLLING IN HIS GRAVE!!! I WOULD PERSONALLY LIKE TO BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF spacey FOR EVEN DARRING TO DO THIS MUSIC!!!! HOW DARE HE SING!!!!! HE SULLIED THE NAME OF A REAL GENIUS!!! JAMIE FOX CAN SING...AND HE DIDN'T DARE SING FOR RAY CHARLES! SPACEY...YOU ARE A DISGRACE!!! YOU PUNK!!! YOURUINED WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT FILM!!!
Kevin Spacey; singing? Get serious. Horrendous. As well as the movie. Almost, no factual truth in it. Spacey's ego, surpasses his wonderful acting abilities
@Tony7840 RIGHT ON TONY!!!!! RIGHT ON!! SPACEY KNOWS NOTHING OF BOBBY!!!! HE RUINED THIS MOVIE!!! BOBBY IS A LEGEND!!! SPACEY IS A FAKE PUNK POSSER....EGO MANIAC...WITH NO TALENT!!!!!! HATE THIS BASTARD FOR WHAT HE DID!!!!! DIE SPACEY!!!!!
Quality of the vid not great... But the I love the song so much! Also I love the amazing Dance sequence in this song! easy in my top ten for a musical dance sequence!
Bobby Darin wrote this song in 1962. He wrote so many incredible songs. I love Spacey but sorry, the kid upstages him in this number!! The little boy looks remarkably like Bobby Darin at that age.
"Beyond The Sea" It's too bad they didn't title it (or at least sub-title) "The Bobby Darin Story". A lot of people don't associate the song with B.D. My wife and I saw it in the theatre and there was only two other people there (and THEY had no idea it was about Bobby before the show started)!!! Great Movie and K.S. gets kudos for persevering and getting this movie made.
"Beyond The Sea" from Lionsgate, who gracefully permitted posting the clip here. The black and white part at the end is from the old Jack Benny Television Program.
Great movie. What an accomplishment for Spacey. Every time it's on the tube I think, "Oh, this again - ho, hum." And I always end up watching every minute of it.
It was a shame that the Ray Charles movie came out at the same time as "Beyond The Sea"... BOTH were GREAT films and both Kevin and Jamie truly captured Bobby and Ray... It's too bad neither of them continues SINGIN'...
This had to be one of the coolest endings ever

I have loved Kevin Spacey's singing ever since I heard him sing That Old Black Magic on the Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil soundtrack.
