I've never understood the myth that Joe Boyd repeats here: the idea that Richard Thompson doesn't play any blues. I hear lots of blues in his playing. True, he doesn't play the obvious Clapton cliches that loads of guitarists do, but he does have more subtle touches that show a blues influence. The mention of Bix Beiderbecke and Django Reinhardt is puzzling too - they both played loads of blues!
Thanks for posting...very interesting. Was surprised to see Joe Boyd was so youthful appearing...I presumed he'd be ancient since he's been in the business so long...must have begun at a very young age.
It's called Ghosts in the Wind. First on an album called Across A Crowded Room. It's on a couple of his self produced live CD's, although they are both out of print now. It's also on a newer DVD and the RT box set. Fabulous song, great to hear, as in this clip, with Danny T (no relation) playing bass.
One of my favorite musicians of all time. Traveled to see him in Lexington last week with the band and it was well worth it!!!! Thanks for this two part documentary!!!!!
Plays amazing/breathtaking guitar.Writes dark/beautiful/funny songs..Buried treasure?Yes.Should you check him out,if you haven't already?? Of course!!! A very witty/funny complex man...
Big Fan!!!
