  • Love my D7000 but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to have a D3!

  • @downtownbub i believe that distance among what appears semi professional and expert is little today. d7000 is all many of us want. go to... freedsl r . co m remove spaces and try to get a chance to win a Brand New Nikon D7000

  • What if you want to change lenses? haha

  • I want snow now!.. oh well, just looked out my window, lots and lots of snow now.. I LOVE THIS!!

  • god almighty... NIKON! not NAIKON! it is from japan not america

  • Nice job on video. I just bought this camera and intend to use it for underwater HD video work. A camera setup like this makes for a smaller equipment package, especially handy on very deep work where one is already encumbered with gear.

  • amazing video...Amazing photos...

  • lolcant seem to find a man who ill treat me like a princess

  • I need to find me a d3s underwater houseing.. but then agian I dont really want to risk the camera underwater :p

  • @ haha48

I think these guys were using a Nikon certified housing so Nikon would replace the camera for free maybe I mean the have a Warehouse full of them

  • No they wouldn't replace it.. You can get insurance though for the camera gear if you want to pay for it.. Its actually cheap when you have 30,000 worth of gear underwater you want insurance.. when its only 200 per year

  • good work man. I think you got some great shots.

  • Poor visibility? it is new for me that because it is cold should have low light and poor visibility...

looking at the film i found visibility average when not good! almost 20m is not poor visibility!

  • actually having looked at the photographer's other works, this shoot wasn't exactly their best work. however, it's a camera test, at the time, the first full frame camera first time in an underwater housing, testing high ISO noise levels. well, after a few years, the sample images/videos have been much more refined, just take a look at Vincent Munier's test shoot with the D3s. the quality of shots there will blow you away. the seagulls, the bears, the puffins... wow...

  • Umm the shots are fine what do people who know nothing about photography expect its a fucking crab in murky water in the artic what did people expect nude girls booty dancing / give the experts the set up and let them show how to do it right !

composition of a king crab, fuck me. pro photographer

  • i second. i was thinking... oh dear i take better pictures than him with a Canon G10 + housing

  • Please let me know your photo´s link. If you are that good then I expect you can show it to everyone.

  • Don't tell me the crab pics you took are those btw your legs.

  • LOL, normally I don't react to such a state ment but this one is just too good to be true. I bet you blow the D3 out of the water when it comes to IQ. Only one prob, the iso range of the G10 doesn't offer an iso speed of 4000 :-) Happy shooting

  • hehe. who are you to judge? :P

  • The film crew that filmed the whole thing did a way better job than the guys with the ND3.

    Crabs look tasty.

  • I thought exactly the same...

  • I actually went Filming Underwater with a HVX200

    Was really weird

  • Superb!!!

  • This is just like finding nemo!!

  • amazing video

  • Thanx!

  • Amazing photography I loved it!

Im just curious what was the songs that played in the background it was a great choice! Great job!

  • good video.....its very cold down there... king crab attack...wow...great camera...i have D2X...cheers...upgrade it soon...

  • dont upgrade it - keep it. I have the D2XS and the D3 - the D3 is fantastic though not without its problems (battery errors). I still routinely make for the D2Xs in preference to the D3 on occasions. Sometimes you want a little noise, and very often I need the ISO 100 settings which I still maintain is better in the D2xs than what the D3 has to offer. That old D2xs is staying as far as I am concerned - its bullet proof.

  • Utrolig flott Yngve:o)keep it up! Hvor var det du dykket og har du no navn på det vraket? hilsen ivrig amatør fotograf

  • not getting much aspect of the size of those monsters in the shoots either. Thats not an easy photo-assignment so I don't want to critise apart from that...Nothing to compare the shots too either so, nice job!

  • Please don't get me wrong. I love the effort, but you should try to shoot with a bit more ambient light. Using flashes as main light doesn't bring out the D3 advantages...Push the ISO a bit further and don't set the flashes the same angle. Try one a bit higher from the top and the other a bit more diffuse from the side to add more drama to those pictures.

    Love your work btw.

You're crazy and thats what makes a great picture.

  • I agree!

  • Well, check the shots again, the flashes are not set the same angle, might be the same height, but not the same angle. And he is not firing both at the same time all the time.

Also, down there you will have amost none ambient light, so he can push the iso till it hits the top and still not get the light he needs.

One advantage that is shown, regardless of the flashes is the possibility to autofocus with that small amount of light down there.

  • "he is not firing both at the same time all the time." <- when I read this I know you know nothing about photography

  • I don´t?

So you believe that you cannot select if one or both should be fired? Do YOU know in what way they are talking to the camera? If he is useng the CLS system in the Nion cameras, then he can set them in different groups and control them, IF they are CLS compatible lights.

Stupid answer, but hey, it is the internat and it is free to way whatever you wan´t.

  • it was really not on the same angle as with the camera. look at the video. the flash is extended on the upper right side of the camera. you don't mind talking crap without even analyzing, do you?

  • i am sorry only because youtube doesn't allow more than 5star rating. S U P E R B !

  • Superb film! Great editing.

  • Thx Hans

Feedback like this motivates for future projects :-)

  • I can't fucking believe they went in the water

  • Very good video!

  • Hi. Great shots there.

What lense did you use on the D3 - also what aperure / shutter and ISO did you select?

Can these be changed while underwater or is it something you set on land and if the setting's wrong then you're stuck until you surface?

  • Hi, I used a 14:2,8 the port made to fit the 14-24 was nor ready at the time we went up there. I had it on everything from ISO 500- 4000 yes, everything can be changed and adjusted as you are UW. Subal has dona a fantastic job on this housing!

  • Hi

I have a D300 fitting a 14-24 f/2.8. Such an amazing lense... albeit a bit heavy. Not that that's an issue underwater

  • beautiful

  • holy crab!

    thanks for fantastic video

  • Thanx!

  • Nice work from a real professional.

  • Thank you... we do our best...

  • Deadliest Catch FTW

  • Thanx, Im glad Im just taking the images and not having to catch them...

  • Bravo ! greate job and greate D3 :)

  • Thank you!

  • Beautiful images and amazing work. What a fantastic camera. I have found it to be a major upgrade from the D2x.

  • Thanx... yes the difference is huge huge huge ;)

  • MERAVIGLIOSO

  • Grazie :-)

    L

  • Amazing!!!

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

    Gotta love those Norwegians ;)

  • Thank Ü!

    L

  • Beautifully shot!

  • Thank you! ;)

  • sure looks like the left strobe is firing to me. That attacking crab must use Canon

  • Yes and no. I constantly turn them on and of to control the light, at some points its difficult to se that its flashing, but if you look at our home-page you will se what I mean. As I am shooting with one manual, it takes one shot to activate it, like I did in the "dressing room"

  • What lens were you using? Do you need to have the shade removed with that lens? I also think it would have been better if your left strobe was firing.

  • I was using the 14mm. Subal is making a domeport for the 14-24, but we did not get before we left.

  • My answers got a litle out of order...hope you get it anyway ;)

  • Nikon PROPAGANDA !!

    I would take a Canon 1dmIII anytime over a D3

  • Thanks for taking the time to watch the video ;)

  • Fantastic! The result was even better than I'd expected (a sentence used by Yngve in the film). Tomorrow I have to check if the ice has left from Storbukt, so I can dive on the wreck. Have been hunting king-crabs today, and the visability is good, especially when the sun is shining

    Bjørn Ballo :-)

  • Thanx bjorn, see you back there in April!

  • Thank U guys!

    Your feedback is highly appreciated!

  • Nice to see that people actually use this camera in the real world. an not just for high-iso shots of test charts in a studio!

Great pictures and very interesting Video!

  • Yes, it was nice to have the proper tools to take it under water

  • Fantastic! Great pictures!

  • Thank you ;)

  • wow, just wow.

is there a site to view the resulting phhotographs?

  • I like the Video graphy.

  • Thank Ü!

    Laurusvideo

  • Amazing! I'm so happy i'm sitting here inside (warm) in front of the computer and watching this... It was realy intresting and a great effort and nice pictures. Thanks a lot!

    Best from Sweden!

    :)

  • Well its minus over water but still nice pluss 2* on 20 meters. Glad you like it...

    Y

  • I bet the 2 CF card slots came in handy down there ;)

    Excellent camera, great shots!

  • Thanx! Yes two CF cards are great. And now with 16 GB extreme IV coming out, the battery in the flash is the issue...
