  • Drama, drama, drama, lol

  • Esse filme é sensacional, pura exercicio artistico sao suas cenas, poeticamente exala a magnitude do alcance do cinema e da fantasia.

  • The music in this is a stunning complement.

  • Je t'aime la bete!

  • the best movie i ever saw!

  • I think they used that same exact beast look for the feary tale theater version

  • I am now married to the beast.

  • The best proposal ever!

This is my favorite part, I can't get it out of my head... And their dialogue.... Je l'adore!

Belle... Voulez vous être ma femme?

  • the beast is soo sexy!

  • I think la Bête is a little uhm... freaking me out!!!! Sorry, it does is fake, but at the same time, damn creepy - GREAT JOB <333

  • Damn this castle is freaky as hell. I like it when the house objects dance and sing. But this movie is AMAZING

  • Majestueux cette bête et tellement féérique cette belle. Magnifiques trucages pour l'époque, Merci M. Jean Cocteau.

  • Creeper Bed: "Belle I am your bed, now come over and lay down on me! :PPP"

  • Anyone else remember a colored contemporary version of this film? Angelica Houston was one of the sisters, and Sigourney Weaver was Belle. I think it was either an adaptation of this film, or an obvious color copy.

  • We are watching this movie in my French class. We stopped at the part where the beast carries the girl to the bed and stares at her.

  • @09Oblivion Dude. The Beast's voice... Dude. I agree. :l

  • @StuckInMurderCity I agree, I believe that was the actor's attempt to keep from sounding too much like Avenant.

  • I wonder if he carried her in one take. it's a long one, but she doesn't appear to change positions after he initially picks her up (not including the wardrobe change). Very impressive on his part if he didn't take a breather!

  • Visually, I agree like everyone, it's a masterpiece. But, being an actor, script and acting is very important to me and they fail at those unfortunately. If only they could redo-it the same way, same effects without CGI and all, but good actors this time. Oh and the Beast's voice sucks.

  • @09Oblivion Are you talking about this Jean Cocteau movie or another film?

  • @MartiniandCigarettes Yes about this movie. I think what really ruined it for me was the voice of the Beast (i expected a monstruous voice but not that way :P) and the acting (yes, the acting was different back then for some reason but even there...) but i am not saying its a bad movie altogether. I clearely understand why its a masterpiece. But i like Disney's version better :P

  • @09Oblivion I'm sorry to inform you that you have shitty taste. Sorry, really.

  • @MartiniandCigarettes I'm sorry to inform you that you are a douche. Sorry, really. I didnt say i didnt like the movie its just some little details and i also said that yes it is still a visual masterpiece so try to read the whole thing before saying stuff like that and pretending you are sorry.

  • Jean Marias + Lion = Sexy Beast!!!

  • Comment removed

  • 1 8 : 1 : 1 1

    I A M - R. W.

  • Mon coeur est bon

  • I THINK HE IS VERY HANDSOME. HE IS NOT UGLY, OR A MONSTER, AT ALL..

HE IS ALSO VERY BEAUTIFULLY DRESSED. HE IS IMPECCABLE. DELISH.

I WISH PEOPLE WOULD BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO DRESS LIKE HIM, NOW. 10/10

  • Ont dirait un loup-garou la bête , flippant sa tête ... mais sinon magnifique film :)

  • Is it bad the only thing going through my mind as he walks up the stairs is "DON'T TRIP!"

  • When I'm an adult, I'm going to write a book/ make a movie based on La Belle et La Bete but with reversed gender roles. Has this been done already? To what effect?

  • @lanegwyn "17. Girl. American. Hello :-)"

You're 17? That's adult enough. Start writing. It can take years to perfect your craft to the point your book will sell, so get started. Writing's a blast.

There's an interesting move titled "Blood of Beasts" which is sort of a Viking version of "Beauty and the Beast". While no gender flip, the girl is a kick-butt Viking warrior who goes to challenge the beast to single combat, and falls in love instead. ;-D

    I love fractured fairy tales.

  • i wonder how much the actors got payed to hold the candles

  • @ashleykhart 4 DOLLARS FOR THE WHOLE FILM

  • 4:43 it did scare me :(

  • one word : masterpiece

  • I want to thank you, am0123, because this is my fifth viewing of this and now I don't need the subtitles. Cocteau is better than Muzzy!

  • Is there a way to reload this section of the film. It's a little squished and it's hard to read the subtitles.

  • what did you do to the picture? i cant read the subs!!

  • @CenobiteVictim change the quality of the picture.

  • He one fugly @.$.$ mofo

  • Ridley scott's legend pays homage to this film. aIn the scene where darkness is trying to woo Lili. I'm an idiot. I just figured that out!

  • Love this film!

  • that's one sexy bed ahaha

  • it is sad that movies of this quality are not made anymore... I miss the days when movies actually had a deeper meaning to them, and they were works of art.

  • Do u know Peau D'an?. It is a musical comedy from the 70's so it' has a very different mood but it often refers to La belle et la bete (costumes, decors) it is full of colours and i think it's playing on the famously black and whiteness of la B& laB . Oh! and it has the same actor as the king

  • @YourDitte What was it like in the '40s? I'm just saying; you YouTubers need to lose the nostalgia goggles, especially for times you weren't part of. You see it all the time on this site in classic films' videos. It's always "Movies just aren't the same anymore! Ah, classic movies: back when movie-making meant something." Movies still have meaning and beauty, even today. You just have to look for them. Don't forget: crap films exist in every era.

  • @UnitedTen

Admittedly, the way I worded that statement does make it sound like I was alive and appreciating movies in the 40s. O_o

However, I do still think that acting has definitely changed over the decades (like everything else in the world), and, I think that there is a certain beauty to the older style that doesn't exist anymore. I'm sure you can agree with me on that.. You don't find movies like this, or A Streetcar Named Desire for example, being made anymore.

  • @YourDitte Yeah, I'm sorry. I came off a bit harsh. Took out whatever issues I had on the wrong person.

  • @YourDitte Your comment shows a lack of knowledge of cinema.

That, or you are trying too hard to appreciate classics as a way to make you seem more refined than people who also enjoy contemporary films.

  • @YourDitte

hey, it's 2 years later and i wonder if you still believe deep and quality art movies are not made any more. there are so many out there, it just takes a little systematic determination to find them. for you (and anyone else here that loves to contemplate the deeper aspects of the Beast myth) I say, please seek out Hal Hartley's 'No Such Thing'. and contact me for a chat after you've seen it.

  • Wow. I wouldn't mind having a room like that.

  • She was trailed on a huge plate by several men

  • They did an amazing job for the beast costume, considering what year it was. :)

  • dedico esto a Cesar Bermudez , Conchita Bouza, Rogelio Favio Hurtado, ...y a los ausentes presentes...Benjamin Ferrera, Alberto Martinez Fuentes, el astrologo, Enrique Montano Montesinos.

  • he has pretty eyes

  • Why can't Bell look in the beast's eyes?

  • im thinking it has to do with the curse and that she might faint again haa

  • @lshield1

I believe it has to do with the fact that his eyes are almost all that is left of his former human form. And he does not want to be reminded of his former form because he is bitter.

  • 3:55

Absolutely stunning. Obviously no expenses spared for this film, materialistically or artistically.

  • i know, it's beautiful. especially considering it was filmed a year after the end of WW2.

  • Oh, so true. I think the melancholy of the war added to the dark beauty of this... and I think Jean Cocteau was enormously familiar with it.

  • @klickenpod That part is absolutley mesmerizing!

  • ...et la musique est tres a' propos...Tom (Marseille, France)

  • Tres beau film! Adrien Alpendre

  • You can see this has influenced lots of people: Charles Addams (Thing in The Addams Family), Roman Polanski (arms in the wall in Repulsion) and Peter Greenaway (living statues in The Draughtsman's Contract & changing outfits through rooms in The Cook The Thief His Wife & Her Lover)

  • All I have to say about the beast is...

    KITTY!!

    :3

  • ima ljudi čudovišnijih od Vas, no oni to vješto skrivaju.

    zvuči poznato?

  • This movie is in my collection. Thanks for posting it here. . . one of the world's most creative and beautiful masterpieces!

  • poétique magnifique magique je ne m'en lasse pas depuis... 50 ans !!!

le mariage de la belle et la bête (voir bettelheim aussi dans son analyse du conte)

  • Magnificent, thanks for uploading this masterpiece, one of my favorite movies!
