This lovely video reminded me so much of the experience of playing the Txalaparta, a traditional Basque marimba-like instrument. It is traditionally played by (at least) two people who stand facing each other with the marimba between them.
For Places that are war torn or have suffered atrocities the reality of the entire population is changed forever. That would be apparent to you even if you just had arrived many years later. You'd be meeting people who grew up without parents or even guardians, people who have lost their livelihood.... on and on and on....
Just take 15 seconds, right now and imagine specific challenges of a post-genocide reality...
I know what a genocide survivor is, but what is a post-genocide survivor? They got there after the genocide was over, and survived the post-genocide thing?
John! I have a wonderful idea....well, I think its wonderful. How about you putting together a DVD of your stuff? Just like you have it here on You Tube? Better quality, of course, but the same clips, just like you posted them! I'll be the first customer...at a cool price I think you'd do well.
Great project there, good work! Somehow the guy holding up the HAPI distracted me though.. Is that a paying job :p ?? Sorry for the random question :)
When there is peace and people have enough to eat and medical care, the deeper wounds can be tended to. Gary, your work is so very moving. Across cultures, colour, creed, age, the dance of the drum, the universal language of the heart, connection, communion, hearing and being heard, healing the spirit so there can be brightness and joy again. The laughter, the warmth of that laughter, the radiance of all of you, says it all. A beautiful process that can only be described as love. Thank you.
This is truely amazing, what a wonderful tool the Hapi is. I know it will bring happiness to all who come in contact with it. You're doing a wonderful work here. Gloria
Great job Gary. You are truely making people happy thru music and in reality isn't this what it's all about. You are a great Canadian ambassador of good will. We are proud of you. Arthur Thomas
Wow - so good to see individuals exchanging joy in the face of so much misunderstanding. Completely energizing and uplifting! Thank you, all who are a part of this project. :)
Thank you John for showing us this beautiful video! :)))
This really is what music should communicate and it proves how the power of music can be experienced in a broader sense, as is my experience in a poor country like India as well, music unites people from a different level than words can do. Music can heal disharmony. The Hapi drum is a great tool for that because it gives a tremendous sound that is very pleasant to the ear.
that made me cry...so beautiful how two completely different people from 2 different countries, 2 different sides of the planet, can connect through music....bravo hapi drum
Unique and pleasing sounds!!!!!!! I have never heard a Hapi drum. WOW!!!!!!!!
