@Migas128 Ray and Jeff are my absolute favourites as well. There is something similar to them. Not the music, but just an energy that is puts me in mind of both of them . And Ray does some funny banter in between songs like Jeff.
He never turned country and western. He's actually headed back towards his roots quite a bit. If you've listened to his old original albums such as One Lonesome Saddle, you'd find his roots are very strong in southern folk and Americana. Ray has added a new dimension with every album he's put out. He's been treating his voice as an instrument from his gritty vocal days of Trouble, to his breathy vocals throughout Gossip, to his higher register in BSB.
@lvginclp no desire to be a dude- or in the real world of narrow minded no class people - get a life - the f word u should have something better to do like shut it
Was one of my favourite artists for a long time at an important part of my life....sadly he turned very country and western which was a big shock and disappointment for me..though i still thank you for what you did for me raymond :)
@abrikutin I would never go as far to say that he went "very country and western" I do know what you mean though. After he released his latest album you could tell it wasn't the same as Trouble or his other earlier albums. If anything I would lean more to saying he went more folk. But yeah I understand what you mean he strayed a bit from what he was originally. I honestly think its because it used to be more centered around just him and his guitar and now his music is more about the whole band.
HEARD HIM ON OUR LOCAL INDEPENDENT RADIO SHOW. THOUGHT HE WAS O.K.. THEN SAW HIM AT THE MOUNTAIN JAM FEST FOR LEVON HELM'S (MY IDOL) 70TH B-DAY PARTY. HE DID "TEARS OF RAGE" AND BLEW ME A WAY!! WHAT A SHOW!!!
When I saw him in Philly, he was quiet...didn't say much at all. but he was amazing as usual. you're lucky he was talkative at your show. i'm jealous.
yeah I've seen him twice before (in Glasgow, Scotland) and he was mostly quiet but when he did talk he was funny and interesting. like you said he's still a great live performer, even if he does not say much.
@buaboy for real they have to make the show about them i saw ray twice and there was always someone responding to what he said its like just stfu and listen
please is there anyone who can write all that Ray says before starting to sing? (also in a private message to me) I'm Italian and I cannot understand several words and therefore I lose the general meaning!
I love Ray LaMontagne, genius, poet, true and genuine artist!
WOW! This is really tight! Great song, well done vid too. I love this video for the insight to Ray's dry humor. I was cracking up the whole show! He reminds me of Steven Wright. I love the girl that you can hear laughing too, really cute. :)
seen him twice!! really wish he played this when i was there!!

Why do people feel the need to scream while he's singing? It's disrespectful.
