  • i have a question. I really want to buy one. do you need a computer to hook it up to? can you save created programs onto the device itself or would you need a flashdrive? Thanks! appreciate it!

  • @jvboy88

Hello! This device works completely independantly of a computer!

However, you cannot actually create any programs - You are limited to the inbuilt 100 programs. There is no way to add or change them.

  • helpful info,thanks.

  • @jackstrikergraphics

Cheers! Glad I could be of help!

  • This is much apreciated. I love to get a beat and just use the arpeggiator non stop with c56,c50 and L9 instruments , changing all the time the tempo/pattern (from 0 to 18). That way you get great hypnotic moments, full of energy. And now, thanks to your advice the arpeggiator will be even better!

  • @transparente

Cheers! I'm glad I could be a help. Also thanks for the sub! =)

  • This is cool. I brought one a while ago and chucked it in te draw cos it was too limiting.

  • Aww, it's a pity! But yea, sometimes I feel that way too, nowadays I only play with it if I have inspiration of some sort xD

  • Thanks for the tutorial—I've tried doing the same, halving the beats, and also doodling on a DS-10 at half the beat again. It sounded OK at the time! But I'm not sure what you mean about the 70 - 75 beats bit... I'm still new to this thing. Cheers

  • @oo1ooo1oo

You see, the Kaossilator has limited memory, so what happens is if you record at less than 75 BPM, the kaossilator doesn't have enough memory to record 8 beats, so it only records 4.

The goal of this is to halve the BPM from above 75 to below 75. Let's say we're working with 120BPM. If we change 8 beats at 120BPM to 4 beats at 60BPM, it sounds exactly the same, which then allows you to work with a slower arp.

You can try it yourself, that probably explains better than I can! =)

  • Thanks for getting back—I get it now! Great little thing isn't it? I kinda wish I'd got a pink one now, just to be different—you just never see anyone with the pink one. No one that will admit to it anyhow. Cheers

  • @oo1ooo1oo

lolz! Korg is smart, they just came out with the pink one so that people wanna buy and collect it xD

I personally hope Korg releases new firmware soon!

  • Sure—me too, I wonder how you'd input anything though

  • @oo1ooo1oo

I don't think we'll be able to upgrade it ourselves. Unless of course Korg has something hidden in there from the beginning. Oh well, we can only hope xD

  • This is a great idea!!!!! thank you so much!

    how did you discover this?

  • Thank you very much for your comment!

I suppose I found this because I really did think the arps were going too fast! And I did realise that a change in BPM from more than 75 to less than it would keep the loop intact...

Add some random experimentation, and this trick was born! =D

  • Dude.... you can slow the gate if you hold down the arp button, you have like 50 choices of gates.

  • Yes, that's true, but what if you've found a gate pattern that you like, but want that particular gate pattern to run slower? That's when you need this method.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • Yeah its true. Too bad it only works in normal mode, I always use it in delay mode, so you cant change the bpm without breaking the loop.

  • Oh, i see... yea, that's one disadvantage of the DLY mode, I guess.

  • i kinda figured it out how it works, but i cant hear what i play , i only hear it when its already recorded anyone knows what i do wrong ,

    ?

  • Hi. Not exactly sure what you're referring to.

This method only works when you already have a beat recorded.

  • cool trick buddy. great job =]

  • Thank you very much!

  • oh hay no problem. i asked for a Kaossilator for Christmas this year, so hopefully when i wake up tomorrow i get one! haha

  • Hahas, hope you get one! =D

  • hey thanks, me too! for now, while everyone is asleep on Christmas Eve, i'm staying up and turning on my black light and listening to Justice's cd "Cross" :D

  • its not out at fast speed, your just not hitting the pad exactly on the beat.

  • Oh that's not what I meant.

It's just that, at 140BPM, the beat gets cut up much quicker than at 70BPM (which is what you expect the Arp to do).

The thing is, some may find the cutting at 140BPM too fast, so this video describes how you can slow it down.

(I know I kinda missed the beat, but this is, after all, just a demonstration)

  • wow, that I didn't know, think I have to try it :)

  • Awesome... good job. 5/5

  • Thanks!

  • your video is not playing properly bro, i'll check back maybe a bad connection. though i read the text at the end. knew about the halftime or doubling facter. you could show it on a bit more of a beat though...?

  • Strange. The vid works fine for me and my friends...

I basically threw together this video to show its effect on the GateArp, that's all. Didn't have much time, so didn't go into too much detail.

  • cool man(my internet is being funny still).

nice of you to share that with others :) i noticed on your website you have a link to my video. that's cool thanx.

  • Cheers! It's all about sharing the good stuff. =D
