@Cosmored2 To fake the moon landings you would first need a giant perfectly vacuumed set otherwise all that pesky moon dust is going to fill up the "atmosphere" (am I using too big of words for you?) and the price alone of something like that might just outweigh actually going to the moon in the first place. I'm not certain of the math but I'll let you do that seeing as you're so smart.

@Cosmored2 People like you make me depressed. Conspiracy theories are fun for about five minutes but then you have to wake back up in the real world or suffer a very sad and lonely existence trying to convince people of crap that hold as much water as a wicker basket.
I'm sorry, there is absolutely nothing here you've said that sounds even tangible.
I agree with you. I hadn't noticed there was any name calling going on here, and I disapprove of that kind of conduct here. So I will remove his comment and if he likes he can provide you with the information you desire.
NASA stands for Never A Straight Answer. We need to send a man to the moon now in 2009 so that we can put to rest whether or not we actually landed on the moon. There are so many unanswered questions and lies out there.
There are already people who think the Hubble telescope is a myth. I don't think that would help very much.
What might be even more convincing would be to land an untrained "moon-landing hoax" believer on the moon (of course *without* the irrelevant EVA suit).
Then he or she can, again according to their belief, easily walk back into the lunar module for questions and comments following their experience during *that* hoax.
No, we need to just send a trained astronaut back to the moon. We don't have the same restrictions on the media that we had back in 69. They cannot lie as easily now as they did back then. This would prove it once and for all. Maybe this time they can film in color and explore the so called moon bases that are up there.
Uh... achhem! WHAT? They cannot lie as easily as they did back then?
I think you might want to review ancient history like say.. oh, the last 2 years or so. "They" (whomever "they" is) most certainly can lie as easily as they ever have. In fact that's all "they" ever do if we're on the same "they" page.
As for special effects. Ever been to a Hollywood movie?
Everyone seems to have some kind of built-in denial mechanism that sometimes seems to stray outside of the psychological realm and into the physical world. It must be something to do with basic human nature coupled with a faulty denial mechanism.
I think the same applies to affirmation mechanisms. Psychologically beneficial, but if strayed into the physical realm you get bizarre results such as religion and angels on pins and such. In both cases one aught to seek medical attention immediately.
Haha, I was really just kidding. But I'm definitely not surprised!
I remember reading somewhere that a gene had been found that appears to be directly related to religious belief (a "religion gene"). People who happen to have this gene "activated" (or so they said) almost universally believe in some sort of supernatural being whereas those that don't, tend to be very skeptical.
I don't know enough about it to elaborate but maybe I can find out more by searching around a bit ;)
That's why it's up. And the featured video being the last of this set.
It is almost the 40th anniversary of that great day in our history... perhaps I can find some more footage to feature in the playlist. If you have some suggestions I'll tag them along.
Yeah... those were fascinating times... of course, a little before their time I think; there wasn't much to do on the moon in those days except just "to be there".
But now it's looking more and more like the moon could be a massive source of radioactive material for power generation (or so I've been told).
I think, if that's true, that we may begin to see a lot of "moon-mining" in the near future. Probably not by humans, but you never know.
I agree.. I mean, the moon landings were before their time. We were still watching it all in black and white TV, even that was all relatively new.
Well, I was just a kid but do remember the tension and the percieved threat and technological advancements of the soviets and all of that just out of WW2 really.
If for nothing else I think we went just to make a point and "a stand" of sorts. I hope we never have to feel those kinds of tensions again! Thanks again James for the great vids!!!
You know I think I can take out the approval stuff for most of these shows. It's really only the moon landing one that need be guarded against the typical fake moon landing crowd...
I was pointing to that link cause it gives a lot of background info on the BBC coverage anyone clicking on this video might be interested in. Including some rare images.
And yes, the fake moon landing crowd are such a bunch of bores. As though one of man's greatest achievement isn't interesting enough on its own.
Ok, I turned of approval for this video. I'll get to the others as they come up. I don't think we'll have much problem with people suggesting Burke faking that he was told that there was an Apollo 11 mission. But we'll see ;)
P.S. If you see anything like that don't worry, I'll erase those comments myself.
Err... I guess it wouldn't be VHS! But somewhere in some box of archives in some basement somewhere who knows... I bet a lot of employees at the time would've tried to get a copy of that tape make for "personal use".
Alas, VHS didn't exist in 1969. It was launched in Europe and Japan in 1975 and in America one year later.
There was a video recorder available at the time: the Sony CV-2000. However only a handful of people could afford them. In US dollars, they cost $695 and the one hour b&w tape reels cost $40. That's $4670 and $270 in today's money!
A few things have survived on this format but nothing from the BBC's Apollo 11 coverage.
Ya, I know I corrected myself right after typing that. But it could've been copied by an employee onto one of those big reel tapes that they used at the time "secretly" as it were... to be taken home. I mean, I know I would've ;)
A few tapes did 'accidentally' drop into BBC employees' briefcases, including episodes of Dr Who, Z-Cars and Dad's Army, which would otherwise be lost. IIRC, only brief snippets of the Apollo 11 coverage was recorded. Most just went out live and unrecorded.
Another pop fact: the BBC's theme to the coverage was Space Oddity by the then unknown David Bowie. He credits the massive exposure it got with kickstarting his career.
BTW. Sorry about the comment approval business... seems anything to do with the Apollo missions is a magnet for ridiculous "arguments" about fake moon landings and so on. This video is part of a playlist about the Apollo missions which was to be a kind of "kids zone" so I wanted to keep that kind of loony business out! ;)
Actually, I was going to mention that it's shame that this celebration of science and invention has 'related videos' containing drivel about astronauts on film sets being suspended on wires and accusations that the Apollo programme was a huge hoax.
That's the marketplace of ideas for you, I suppose.
One of my favourite YouTube clips is of Buzz Aldrin being accosted by and then punching a conspiracy theorist a third of his age who called him a liar.
LOL:-p That was Bart Sibrel after forcing himself on Buzz Aldrin, a true human hero. Bart Sibrel blocked Buzz's path then asked him to "swear on the bible" that he walked on the moon.. Of course this would only mean something to religious people anyway but by then Buzz had had enough and gives Bart Sibrel exactly what he deserved, a smash in the mouth!
Bart Sibrel is a low life bottom feeding pseudoscientist with absolutely no credentials whatsoever! Hope he lost teeth!
Coverage from the day itself. These were the days. Scientific progression and a fantastic sense of exploration. Those days are now long gone.

For the BBC's coverage of Apollo 11, they had Pink Floyd playing live in the studio improvising mind-expanding music to accompany the visuals.
What a lovely idea!
Sadly, the BBC were lousy at keeping copies of their shows from the 60s, especially live broadcasts, so none of this remains. Pity.
