Sergey to me carries their routine a whole a lot more than Melia. She seems rather stiff and heavy in her movement, especially when she does her forward lock steps towards the audience. There is no forward and back contraction in her core when she locks and her arms are not showing as much fluidity in movement compare to Sergey. Now don't get me wrong I don't hate them, I love their dancing as a whole, but I she needs to lighten up a bit lol. Not every move needs to be heavy and commanding :)

TRY TO LOOK FOR THE VIDEO WHEREIN ESPEN ESBERG WAS LECTURING IN BLACKPOOL. HE SAID MELIA IS A GENIUS DANCER. THERE'S THIS TERM TO SUMMARIZE MELIAs ACTIONS IN THE DANCEFLOOR. THE ISSUE ON HER HIPS AND LOCK STEPS THAT WAS ANSWERED BY ESPEN ESBERG EXPLANATIONS...AND THAT MADE HER GENIUS.

Well in myopinin Melia barely dances. She does nothing on that floor. Sergey is the better of them. I've seen Melia at all the major comps. I'm just bemused how she gets to the final cos Sergey works his socks off. She spends more time posing than dancing. Sorry Melia but that's what I see on the floor. Gaynor Fairweather is the world's best ever latin dancer. She was and is one of a kind. Carmen, Oxana, Yulia and Joanne are my other favourites.

omg she is like 50 year-old lady. no hip action, no proper body movement, no musicality, no balance.she can't even do lock steps. LOL! she is like stopping and blinking every 10 secs. I can not even compare her with Yulia. she is out of her league.

I dont know what over 1/2 of the comments are talking about... sounds like lack of Knowledge in dancing... People cannot just assume why someone is "Climbing ranks" because of Just their partner. People need to realize that the two best Solo Dancers combined does not make the Best partnership. All of the couples/partnerships I keep reading are people making comments as if they are better than either one of them lol. Go study, get coached, Practice before saying a Partnership is terrible.

I think you've presented your lack of knowledge in dancing by claiming Melia is logically sound. That's just flat out wrong. She cheats on almost every single back step and her samba whisks alone should be enough of an example as to what level her technique's at. We have technically better dances in the top 24 amateurs!

Having said that I appreciate what she brings to the floor. She has certainty and commands presence and boy does she know how to be in a split weight.

Back into your argument about worse dancers judging on better dancers. That's also wrong. I don't need to BE a better dancer to be able to SEE what someone does wrong. Or do you honestly think most of the judging panels we have can dance better than f.ex. Michael and Joanna?

I agree on the notion that Sergey and Melia have a strong partnership. But it's really Sergey's dancing that is pulling them up in the finals.

@honbunch03 yes she is, not so much here though. She has improved tons since this video. If you look at the Russian Championships from the beginning of this year as compared to this, the quality is so much higher. I know Donnie Burns was always on her case about moving her hips more and rotating them more. But one thing she's amazing at is her manner on the floor. She never looks uncertain and never looks intimidated by any one or anything!

You people commenting need to learn to actually READ what someone says before bashing them.Sergey and Melia... both amazing dancers. both technically sound...  and can own you anyday. I am kind of confused at why lower level dancers are commenting on her dancing??

Learn to be less biased. more realistic. and until your better. maybe take notes instead of making comments about them Appreciate their dancing, and be happy you have someone to learn from.

they are so amazing! Melia is as amazing as Sergey! these two really show it's not just about technique. they use the technique to make their own unique dance style. they both really show that they are passionated dancers and not technique robots. they use their feeling in every movement! you can learn technique, but they have something unique that you can't learn and that makes them one of best dancers in the world!

I've seen them live and in several comps and, they do have great stand out poses and marks, she does have a very audience commanding way, something Sergey needs to balance as a couple. For her hips, well if Donnie Burns is telling her and coaching her to move and rotate more than it is the fact, Nothing against her as a person, just to move her hips more. For me they are strong and it's not like she "can't" move her hips, Donnie Burns got her hips going in the coaching session !

If she did move her hips and stop doing a child action like bouncing on those locks then maybe i'll start to like her...! People seem to think because shes coached by donnie burns shes amazing.. shes not.

What you people dont seem to see is she lacks technique, look at her hip action, hardly excistent and she only uses it once in this routine. She only makes the finals because sergey is a good dancer, shes charamastic but rubbish at latin.. especially the samba. She is alot like hanna, very limited in what she can do. And if anyone can be yulia then everyone would be the final! Technique just doesnt come to you you work for it. yulia and joanna are the best latin girls along with oxana lebedew.

I don't believe 'she only makes the finals because Sergey is a good dancer' . . . if a partnership can get placing based only on one half, why were Gaynor Fairweather and Mirko Saccani never world champions? Because who can argue that at the time, Gaynor was by a very long way the best lady in the world . . . really if one person can drive the whole partnership, then it would've happened. But this is not the case - one person can not carry the other! It's for BOTH of them they are in the final!

@ProDancer6 yeah, even so I think it doesn't matter for the lady, it's more on the guy to up the partnership that's why Gaynor wasn't WC after Donnie not that she wasn't good but because her next partner wasn't as good as Donnie. Same with Yulia and Max, then she gets Ricardo and bumps up, Franco's old partner stops dancing with Franco and gets another partner and bumps down the ranks. Joanna is amazing but she has an amazing guy to match her so they are number 1. Totally agree with you : )

And have you thought that maybe it's because Yulia & Max partnership did not work as well as Yulia & Riccardo? Do you even remember where Riccardo was ranked before he stared dancing with Yulia?

If one person could carry the partnership, then why did Slavik and Hannah's partnership fail so miserably? They've both been ranked at least 2nd place in the world, yet together they didn't make it into the top 4!

It's not about individual dancers, it's about the partnership.

@BurgundyBag yeah Riccardo was 3rd in the world before dancing with Yulia, who at the time was 6th or 7th. Slavik has partner issues, consider the source. Like it or not male dancers are judged more than the lady. It's up to the man to shape, frame, carry the dance, have the speed and agility and technique, and skill to partner his lady, not the other way around which is why couples like this do very well, Sergey the very dominant dancer framing (Melia) the picture.

So true, Gaynor after having been World Champion for so many years with Donnie was not able to even be in top 5 pro couples with her next partner. Its about partnerships not individual dancers if that was the case then Yulia would already be world champion because she technically is the BEST lady dancer on the floor. But her partnership is still growing with Riccardo and soon the will be. Sergey and Melia have a great partnership.

nothing much happens with her back or to put it a different way, she keeps her mid/centre area very tight during dancing. Certainly not my prefered style of dancing. I am a big fan of flexible /fluid dancing.
