Mendelssohn is a first-rank composer: (1809-47) He did so much in such a short life. It is up to the player to make his genius apparent. This is one such account.
Richter and Bolet two giants of the piano. Something overall makes me favor the Richter. But who of any of us can say what's the best perfomance of any given piece? Pure unecessary arrogance.
Davvero niente da dire... Un'interpretazione filologicamente fedelissima e carica di quella poesia che proviene da qualcosa che va oltre una mera serie di note giuste... Molto più che magistrale. 6 stelline!!
very good, but no match for Richter

Whenever Mendelssohn's music is dis-
missed as "salon" music, it makes me
cringe! Your magnificent video proves
otherwise with Bolet's profoundly intro-
spective interpretation and expression!
Thank you for the brilliant post!

It makes me cringe too! and what about Richter's interpretation? Superb music!

yes most people dismiss his music after listening to lieder ohne worte, some are far too hackneyed and show signs of age,but this will never

Oh my...His intensity and propulsion is transcending. He really gives this piece a life of its own. What a performance!

Jorge Bolet play Mendelson in Baldwin concert grand. See cast iron frame, it is Steinway diferent.
josegiraldi 3 years ago
What kind of Piano is that? I thought it was a Steinway, but I didn't see the symbol.. it's too fuzzy.
wefasdf23 3 years ago
No this is not a Steinway, but could indeed be a Baldwin - though I can't tell if it has their trademark Acu-Just hitch pins.
Bolet's playing is fantastic, fully musical, in control and offering electrifying tempos!
lamorlayefrance 2 years ago
@lamorlayefrance Bolet was a Baldwin artist, and if you look closely @.27 - 30 you can clearly see the baldwin label

Why does wikipedia have a link to Categories:"AIDS-related deaths" on the bottom of Bolet's wikipedia page?
trschaefer 3 years ago 2
no, I don't think so. I was thinking the same thing. But why include it? I'm sure that's not something he would want people to remember about him.

i'm practicing this piece and it's really really hard techincally speaking
ieronim2003 3 years ago 3
Technically it's ok but rhythmically and harmonically it's VERY VERY misleading!!! Mendelssohn was quite a genius in tricking us all...

amazing pianist, and interpretation. also listen to horowitz.

Just by watching his playing of the Theme and Var. I I can say that his interpretation of this is very musical. He also does a lot of voicing.
