They probably need the beat to stay together and on top of it. Even with the beat, it's improvisation, it's hard, and with two people playing complicated parts, the need for a beat becomes increasingly obvious. Although the beat could have been a little more creative, i understand the need for consitency while improvising on the piano... good job, boys. :)
