@kls576: I train horses. I can communicate with them without even touching them. And I can get them to do a lot more. These horses are in "flight or fight' mode. Bucking like that is what they do when upset (besides playing) and these horses are not playing. If they were "born to buck", then why do they need an electrical shock sent through them? I couldnt even imagine doing this to my horses. It is crazy

I have put myself in the horses place i have been shocked by the same shocker that is used in rodeos. I was shocked on my bare skin (under my chin, arm, and chest) by buddies who were goofing off, keep in mind I'm sure my bare skin it more tender than horse hide, and i laughed with my buddies about their joke.

That is of course a completely unworkable system, at least when it comes to the judges preventing animal abuse. If the judge cites the guy who pays him, the judge is out of a job with that stock contractor, or any other.

FACT: A horse in bronc has a strap on it's back which triggers a nerve, this is no way harms the animal..
Proof: when we had a new born foal to make sure every thing was right and that he was active and healthy, we dried him off and put the towel around his back (where the strap goes) and he bucked until we took it off.

Not gonna sell any beer ads if they televise that event.

I'm not gonna claim to be knowledgeable about the rodeo or animal cruelty laws. I will say this...if this is happening so frequently here it certainly must be happening at a lot of other rodeos. It must be more common than people think. Does that make it right? No. It seems like a good cause to fight for. I don't like seeing any animal abused, however insignificant the pain may be. We wouldn't allow this with any domesticated house pet. I hope the truth comes out and any mistreatment ends.

Why are you complaining about this and not fences that shock. The shock prod puts out less shock then a fence. I use the shock prod on a daily basis to move everything from sheep to cattle. My horse has met it a few times when he was not behaving for the vet. I have shocked myself with it, it feels like your touching a fence. That is of course a completely unworkable system, at least when it comes to the judges preventing animal abuse. i think i'd take a rule book,highlight the no shocking rule.take some video rewind it using a camera with a view screen call the rule to the judge's attention and show him the video.like hey judge when you have a minute i have got evidence of a rule violation.please look at this. if that failed i'd try it on the announcer then the media covering the event. i would try any and everything that someone in charge pay attention to this then and there. wear a cowboy costume so you fit in

FACT: A horse in bronc has a strap on it's back which triggers a nerve, this is no way harms the animal..
Proof: when we had a new born foal to make sure every thing was right and that he was active and healthy, we dried him off and put the towel around his back (where the strap goes) and he bucked until we took it off.

A rodeo with passive animals that don't buck, don't take off running in fear only to be lassoed and flipped, and don't in general lend speed to the event wouldn't be a very exciting rodeo would it. The truth is there are bad apples in every bunch and these bad apples need to be thrown away aka people like Skinny should be got rid of- but the rodeo should not be punished, just because some rodeos do bad things doesn't mean they all do.

I'm not gonna claim to be knowledgeable about the rodeo or animal cruelty laws. I will say this...if this is happening so frequently here it certainly must be happening at a lot of other rodeos. It must be more common than people think. Does that make it right? No. It seems like a good cause to fight for. I don't like seeing any animal abused, however insignificant the pain may be. We wouldn't allow this with any domesticated house pet. I hope the truth comes out and any mistreatment ends.

How sad. This is one more reason for me to detest rodeos. I don't see why anyone would find the sport of getting thrown from a horse fun, but each to his own. I think it takes a hell of a lot more talent to ride in harmony with a horse than stick onto a bucking critter for a few seconds.
That being said, cruelty is unaccepted ANYWHERE, personal feelings aside.

Why are you complaining about this and not fences that shock. The shock prod puts out less shock then a fence. I use the shock prod on a daily basis to move everything from sheep to cattle. My horse has met it a few times when he was not behaving for the vet. I have shocked myself with it, it feels like your touching a fence. And those horses are treated better then the cowboys/cowgirls that ride them. I sleep in my truck bed while more horse sleeps in a trailer w/heat and ac!

There are laws that protect cats and dogs and other housepets from injury. Try abusing a dog and you'll end up in jail. But how come there are NO LAWS that actually makes rodeos illegal? Why? They are still grouped as animals.

DEMONNANGEL321: Right now, laws in many states specifically exempt rodeo arena livestock from their animal cruelty laws so the show can go on and money can be made. It's all politics and money that keeps these animals from being protected from abuse.
Rodeo does not have to account for any deaths or injuries they do to the animals.
