  • So many different people love DT. They have so much edges - and everyone has it's favorite. Thus, i love their Train of Thought - totally another dimension of their creativness , i'm delighted with this album. Epicness makes me drawn!

  • This album is pretty solid overall (spent my first time listening through it today). Definitely better than BC&SL and SC. Though I just wish they would have ended it with a stronger song. Still best album since Octavarium.

  • i would say this is their best slow song since ''Hollow Years'' so damn beautiful...james, i love you.

  • Today was a DRAMATIC TURN OF EVENTS for me today. At first I felt like I was on the BACKS OF ANGELS. When I realized today was only to BUILD ME UP - BREAK ME DOWN. Though the reason was LOST, NOT FORGOTTEN, I realized THIS IS THE LIFE, NO BRIDGES IN THE SKY. When I got home.. I gave a huge OUTCRY as to why this was consuming me. I knew I was FAR FROM HEAVEN and believed I had no hope. I then listened to this album.. and then I was BREAKING ALL ILLUSIONS. Everything is BURIED BEANEATH THE SURFACE

  • @redhawk77 Thank you Dream Theater for another amazing masterpiece of an album.. it helped me.

  • Life doesn't make any sense...

  • One moment I stop listening to them for while and then I realize there's something missing in my life that no other music can replace. DT is frikin' amazing!

  • i beat the crap out of my cousin becuase he said that dream theater sounded like soft crap..........he loves dreamtheater now

  • I am really a nobody to comment on music created by such a legendary band. But, I have been a fan of Dream Theater for a long time; mostly for the prog and heavier shit. But this is so damn heartfelt that it moves me every time I listen to it. No complicated shit. Simple. And yet, so amazing. I am proud to have been alive in the Dream Theater era.

One of my life long dreams is to see them live. And to see them play this song live will be like being in heaven.

    Long live Dream Theater.

  • 1 people fell off the rope

  • Mike Mangina = Fraud

  • @MlKEPORNTOY Probably because that isn't his name

  • We're not the selfish ones for advertising religion on such a pure song. -_-

  • You are all so selfish. DT pours out all they have for you. They give and give and give you music like never heard before. ONLY in heaven will there be music this for those of us who believe in God. I am thankful for all they do for me, thier brother in Christ. I cannot wait til we meet so I can say thank you for showing me the True way to God our father. I love you my brothers with our Heavenly Fathers unconditional LOVE:)

  • what..??!!!

    this is already over..???

    just nine songs..??

i want more long timed song like....six degrees of inner turbulence!!!

  • A lot of accolades for this album from the fans. Personally I found it to be another power chord heavy and boring album. There are plenty way better albums than this one.

That being said, there are a few gems in here - which is true of most DT albums. This one right here and Breaking All Illusions are both excellent songs.

  • DT and Two & 1/2 Men prove that NO ONE is indispensable to carry on

  • I'm sad the album is over. :c I loved every single song, there's not a bad one on here....

  • You'll have to forgive me, but to all these people talking about not so awesome vocals. There is no best voice, just like there's no best style of playing a guitar. Different voices fit different songs, depending on how the band thinks it should sound. This voice mixed with this beautiful piece of work is, in my honest opinion, the best it can be.

  • I didn't think it was possible for DT to get any tighter. Mike Mangini made it happen. I believe this album is their best yet.

  • Do you hear autotune at 4:55 in a word 'beneath'?

  • @wookiemusic I listened a few times, and I couldn't spot it. If it's there, you've got hella better ears than i do.

  • I love DT! Can't wait to see them in Vancouver. Well miss you portnoy. I love this song.

  • It's a great album with a fantastic finishing, but I have to admit this album is kind of weak in the power of the songs. I miss the hard drums, the long guitar solos and the real progressive metal. But hey, every band evolves and gets different over time! This is a very good album and for me it's probably the best since Octavarium. I'm relly looking forward to hear it live!

  • I think Portnoy leaving will, in the end, be a good thing. Mind you, I really liked him as a drummer - his drumming is top notch, it can't get any better.

He was overbearing, though. You can see it even on his statement about leaving the band, he wanted to oversee every single detail about the albuns, the shows, everything. This kind of control ends up stifling creativity - less influential members, as Myung, are put on the background. DT was going the Pink Floyd way.

  • @aluked Let me add (hopefully you agree) that, not trampling on any of what Portnoy did at all, (which we all real dt fans will always appreciate) I think Magini is going to make us sort of wish Portnoy had left he band before, if you know what I mean. He is going to work his ass off for the band and make us approach Portnoy's quit not as a loss anymore.

  • Cry Portnoy, Cry your ass and balls off!

  • This is their best album since Scenes From A Memory, in my opinion. EVERYONE should buy it or download it ... LEGALLY... they deserve it.

  • @MrColaid i agree 100% bro

  • The difference for me in this album opposed to their others is that LaBrie and Myung have bigger parts. As a result, I find myself listening to the vocals much more for the melody, while Petrucci and Jordan are much more expressive subtly than before. I would put this album near SFAM, I&W, SDOIT for myself.

  • Man I love DT, but this album was so boring. I mean, you shouldn't have to listen to an album over and over in order to like it, which is probably what would happen if I did just that. Why? because I love DT. DUH... but seriously , if I was gonna introduce a new person to the awesomeness of DT, I would NOT use this album... I miss portnoy already and I was originally happy he'd gone, but man, not anymore. I guess the next album will be the real judge.

  • @suhlester Why were you originally happy he's gone? He was a very important part of the band and was for all intensive purposes, the leader of the band. I like this album overall, but Portnoy is definitely missed. It just doesn't feel like DT without him. I pray that he will come back some day.

  • @suhlester I think the same as you man ! This album is not that good. There are two really good songs on it : Beneath the Surface and Breaking all illusions . Those two songs are amazing . But seriously , Build me up , break me down , Bridges in sky, Lost not forgotten, what the hell are those songs ? This is not real DT like they used to be on SFAM or SDOIT . On those albums ,there is no songs with some "pop" "nu-metal" beat . This is not melodic (like they were on Awake for exemple).

  • Wooow excelent job Labrie! clap clap clap! \0/

  • I like how there is no drum track in the song. Out of respect to Mike, I suppose.

  • You can tell that LaBrie really kicks it into high gear at 4:27. I know a lot of people don't like him as a vocalist, but its moments like that that make him a critical, and irreplaceable part of Dream Theater.

  • @Trombonestar High gear, LaBrie? I know you are sincere and I am not trying to take anything from what you feel, but let's face it: Why are so many fans willing to shut their ears to the voice that is far from brilliant, more often than not very pretentious, and enhanced by studio equipment. I really don't get it. The cheesiness is the right word here. The band is exceptional, the vocals are something that should not be there - they are average at best.

  • @Trombonestar i think they should just hire the guy from circus maximus

  • @Trombonestar Good to see him unbridled as a front man now too!!!!!

  • Sounds like it is an Ending Chapter for 25 years of Dream Theater with Mike Portnoy.. A good bye song.. lets face it, they had a wonderful chemistry, they were a family, and its hard to lose someone in your family who has been there through a lot. I love Mike Magini, he is a good addition. But i know the Guys in Dream Theater feel sadness he's gone

  • @wolfLonee Well, there's no drums in it...

  • shit, the last song :c

  • so lyrical

this IS a good song to put at last.

  • All in all, I think the album was alright, I dunno, I'll have to listen to it multiple times to really get it digested, but I really like this particular song because I feel like it has more melody than the others. Even in their past epics and stuff, they always had good melody, but I feel like it's not as good in a lot of these songs and I also don't like how they just sort of jumped straight into the riffs in some, it didn't really feel like they had a good intro and outro. But it's still good

  • Am I the only one who gets a bit of an alternative rock-ish feeling from this song? I could almost see it being a song from a mainstream alternative rock band, which is just awesome considering the various types of music on here. Pretty cool.

  • So beautiful, i'm speechless

  • NICEEEEE!!

  • You simply couln't find a better way to end an album. I thought they wouldn't be able to top The Count of Tuscany.....but they did.

  • @Therolando are you serious? just the intro from The Count of Tuscany is better then this whole song!

  • @Dust0fNation

    So true!

  • @Dust0fNation Don't get me wrong, The Count of Tuscany is my favorite song of all time. I'm actually learning the keyboard part right now. I just feel that this song does a great job of closing out this ablum as a whole compared to some of their other closers. I also love Ocatvarium too, but both The Count of Tuscany and Octavarium feel like entirely different stories almost. This song feels like the final chapter of the album instead of an entire story. Just my opinion.

  • @Therolando

Don't get me wrong, this song is a beautiful ending to a great album (I say great because I have only listened to it in entirety once). It, however, doesn't even come close in any way to The Count of Tuscany. . . Hell, most all of their album closers are better than this song. . . Octavarium, In the Presence of Enemies, Finally Free, Trial of Tears. . . This song is great, but it just doesn't stand among these other epic album closers

  • @gmwright7 I have to agree, the only closer it is maybe better than is Space Dye Vest. If they put Breaking All Illusions last that would be more like their other albums, with the long epic, prog closers.
