  • Both this version and the movie version are great, though very different voices in each! I like the trilling of this Dickinson, though the other Dickinson sounds more calculating. (I admit I miss "really deep baritone Rutledge" in this, he's one of my favorite parts of the movie version of the song.)

  • Due to President Nixon's pressure, Jack Warner had this number removed from the film version of "1776". Pity, that, because as now, it was very true back then.

These are the people who fought AGAINST Independence from the British Empire.

Today, these are the people who are AGAINST the average American citizen.

  • @TllGrrl who are so right, if only everyone realized this!

  • This is my favorite song in the musical no matter who sings it. Or is it? ;p It's up there with But, Mr. Adams. Anyway, I first thought the film version was better and preferred that one, but after a couple of hearings, I've come to enjoy this version much, much more. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. This is a great song.

  • Where are the good times :(

  • Did this guy play Dickinson in the movie, sounds different

  • @dht23 He did not. Paul Hecht portrayed Dickinson in the musical, while Donald Madden portroyed him in the movie.

  • @KDBizzle07 Ok, thanks my friend told me Paul Hecht was in the movie to and it confused me. Did Donald Madden do his own singing?

  • This song always, always gives me goosebumps!

  • I really like this song. ;D
