This is true about Connors. The world watched him win in devasting style Wimbledon and US US Open in 74 and thought this man will dominate for along time. Then Ashe came along and then Borg. But Jimbo hung in there and finally won again in 82. Fair play to him. Tanking to him would be heresy!!!!!!
I saw the entire 3rd and 4th sets on Tennis channel last night. It was totally great and I'd love to see it again. It was just as Czerniakowska wrote below.
Would love to see more of this match. Please post if anyone has it.
Prior to this match, Connors was considered invincible. Then he lost to Ashe and other players realized that he could be beaten with the right strategy
Ashe's triumph was one of strategy. Connors, who had problems adjusting to the unexpected, had anticipated being able to brutalise and overwhelm his opponent. Ashe responded by taking the pace off the ball at every opportunity, thereby extracting the sting from Connors's game and reducing him to a frustrated and angry shadow of his normal self. Although McEnroe was depicted as the bad boy of tennis, Connors was held in much lower personal regard by officials. With him, it was always personal.
Do the names James Blake, Gael Monfils, and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga mean anything to you? All three are black men and all three are in the top 15. Blake has ten titles and has consistently ranked inside the top ten for years and Monfils has titled before and he made it to the semis at Roland Garros this year. As for Tsonga, he just won at Bangkok this year and made it to the finals at the Australian Open before losing to Djokovic.
that shows that you are not a real tennis fans or either to be ignorant. to add few more black players-Malivai Washinton, Scotville Jenskin & that NCCC 09 champion..trying to recall his name..Donald_____??????
