Can we stop comparing these sopranos to each other when their timbres are so decidedly different? Let them sing like themselves without all the squabbling.
Better than Elaine Paige's version. Different singing styles to both performers, I know!, but this is just better overall! Such warmth, such texture, such tone, such style. Superb.
no puedo con esta canción, cuando se tiene todo no lugar para las palabras sino para la emoción. Adoro lo que esta mujer me hace sentir cuando canta, es como tocar el cielo.
Apart from the fact that Kiri is utterly superior to other singers, these lyrics are thankfully intelligent, not like the Dr Seuss version in LND. Rethink, rewrite Andrew!
Help, I need sheet music for this kiri version not that piece of crap katherine jenkins version which have stupid lyrics and crap cheating ending, I need this fantastic version! someone shoot KJ.. please advise where I can get this version..its seems impossible to get:(

Lagu ini yang bikin gue jatuh cinta sama this amazing lady Dame Kiri Te Kanawa...terus gue mulai dengerin lagu-lagunya....WOWWWW....setelah itu dengerin
'Tarakihi".....huaaaaaah....mantaaaab...just can't stop searching for her singing..more n moreee...
I am generally not a fan of Andew Lloyd Webber or musical theater, but this is great! Unrequited love at its finest...without the soprano dying at the end by some terrible means.
ah how ALW loves to rework his music, for those of you who cant place it, its now Love Never Dies the theme song, song by Sierra Boggess 2010. Still Kiri sings a lovely version I must say. Thanks for posting.
"El corazón aprende lento, estos sentimientos que yo tengo son ridículos pero son reales y soy lo suficientemente sabio para ver que este amor nunca se hará realidad....Se que estás con enfado y que nunca volverás...nunca amaré como te he amado a tí...hasta que yo muera estarás sólo tú..." esa es parte del texto de esta hermosa canción de Andrew Lloyd Weber y cantado hermosamente por Dame Kiri te Kanawa...
This is pure magic. And I have to agree that although this will be a show-stopper in the new Lloyd-Webber musical, these words are so much more passionate. Dame Kiri you are a gem!
Yes I prefer these lyrics too.... I lost my husband after 30 years together, he was my first and only love from the age of 15..... we had 8 kids together and he was killed by a careless driver..... this song says *everything* I feel
just listened to 'LOVE NEVER DIES' and 'THE HEART IS SLOW TO LEARN'. They have the same melody but the lyrics of 'the heart' is much more passionate! I think I prefer Kiri's version at this stage :)
What makes this so sad is just days before this performance Kiri found out her husband was having an affair. If you look closely , at the end , she has tears in her eyes. It kills me every time I see it.
@crimper264 thanks for the information i did not know when it happened and have you heard Susan boyle's song i am who i was born to be it is not a cover song i think it's really a lovely song
--Still a beautiful melody, but the lyrics are generic. Except that the name of the show and the title and most repeated line in the song are the same, there is nothing specific to any situation or character in LND. It could be a song about love in general sung by anyone.
FLATASS white folk have no idea what people of color have to endure EVERY TIME they wake up and realize what they must endure in irreversibly racist ameriKKKa. What a fantastic song sung by a truly operatic voice- the lyrics and orchestration are just superb- it doesn`t get any better than this great performance.

I used to love this woman because of her rich and diverse heritage. Now I found out that she was adopted and that she may be just another boring straight white person. It was even a nun (irrelevant or evil) that encouraged her to sing. That change of perspective is like going from the sublime to hearing the drone of Allahs farts. And dont tell me that it doesnt matter, that Kiri was at least brought up with Maori heritage--for once a boring white person, always a boring white person.
I remember watching this live. Absolutely wonderful voice and music. I am a 47 year old guy and not ashamed that whenever I hear this it makes me cry.
What a nice song! Just an absolutely brilliant instrument she posseses .. The luscious tone/phrasing/vocal attack /power/ and how well she supports the tone! Any weaknesses??? Can one think of a soprano with a finer instrument who uses it so well??? Thanks for the post
another great from Andrew and sung so beautifully by Kiri all i can say is that was magic heart stopping stuff thank you .also for posting so we can hear music like this.
This song knocked me out! The music and the beautiful lyrics. Yes, this is a mezzo piece but Kiri is a class act and she gave a touching performance. I get chills when I hear this song! I was in a store and they played it on a screen...I couldn't move let alone breath! Kiri, Kiri!
I love Dame Kiri and always will, but this song doesn't show her to her best advantage. It''s written so that it's almost impossible to sing, forcing rough sounding changes from head voice to chest voice, something not usually heard from this great singer. This is one I'd like to hear from a mezzo...
When I heard the first performers, I wondered how it could get any better. Not to diminish the other performances, but after I heard Ms. Kanawa, I wondered why I had been content with the others.
Dame Kanawa you are so gracious and your voice is just as beautiful as you are. This is the most beautiful song sung so eloquently with so much feeling and emotion that It brings a deep sadness over me whenever I play it because it parallels my own lifes story. I never tire listening to it over and over again and each time I am reminded of the love I once knew but could never have.
Superb. I remember watching this, and Sarah Brightman had performed just before it. Then Kiri came out, and it was almost as if "Not here is how a real soprano sounds"! Love her.
Not the best lyrics are they? Although I suppose I'm used to Love Never Dies.
