I personally don't find this one sad, but neither happy. I find it more like the way Arnold might feel about not knowing much about his parents and missing them, and at the same time he imagines himself flying with them piloting the biplane, and that would be a good, happy situation. At the end, the melody turns into hope, maybe hope for one day Arnold seeing his parents again.
