  • good job ...

  • Hubble came so very close to being all for naught. Had it not been in Earth orbit. Had not the flaw in the mirror been regular, allowing COSTAR to compensate... Hubble would have been nothing more than another useless bit of orbital debris. JWST's planned L2 orbit, while necessary, worries the hell out of me. Everything *must* go perfectly, No second chances with this one.

  • it's gonna be excelled by the new ones goin up there... they make hubble look like an ol BuiCk...>LOL

  • Anybody know what's going to happen to the telescope after it's past it's use?. I realize that gettin it down could prove to be expensive, but it realy is a triumph of space exploration and general civilization progress so leaving it to drift would seem like a shame.

  • Atheists FTW!!

  • Who's that young guy?

  • Comment removed

  • A big hunk of sophisticated junk pumping toxins into the atmosphere :-)

  • Who needs god? Give me space and high definition photography, thank you very much!

  • ... if there is a god, you need god to pop you into existence & then you get to make stuff

  • Exactly. Quite simple.

  • Well, who built all the space and gave you the ability to enjoy the high def photography?

  • space built space

  • O'realy?

  • LoL, you're not serious.

In case you are (I suspect you aren't) - we're still trying to determine the origin of the cosmos. We know it was not "built," so much as it _formed_ into what we see through our limited point of view. Yours and my ability to enjoy high def photography was not constructed so much as it evolved. As for the photography itself, it is the product of generations of very smart people working very hard.

  • I am quite serious about a catalyst that created this universe.

It formed naturally, but I believe it was designed to do so.

    Take care.

  • Man, neither of us know what came before the so-called "big bang."

I'll first say that my ignorance regarding your lifeviews far outweighs what I know. I'm assuming you are Chrstian.

Whatever came before the "big bang," to say that it was some kind of "god" is to say something based on nothing. To say not only that, but that this ominipotent creature looks exactly like we do, and that he had a son named Jesus, is even more ludicrous.

"We don't know" is all we know about pre-big bang history.

  • have YOU read what jesus taught?

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

A wise man wouldn't say that, let alone the creater of the universe.

  • nice straw-man argument, but seriously theres no evidence that a soul, heaven or god or even Jesus Christ exists. I find it depressing that people like you think this one and only life you KNOW your going to have is just a place to wipe off your feet until you get to heaven that isn't even proven real. "misinterpret everything" is that why theres over 200 different sects of Christianity?

"Things are the way they are, regardless of how you would wish it to be." oh the irony!

  • Spreading the Christian love I see.

I just told you what my problem is, life on earth is just a test for Christians so they don't see the beauty of life and waste it fearing a make believe god. If this is just a discussion why are you getting so defensive?

  • the MEANING eludes us? how about the meaning of the word TRUTH? if you can't prove it, then please take your magic voodoo bullshit and stuff it. i think christians miss the meaning of life, value, community and all sorts of important ideas, but they are so deranged by their ridiculous religion that there is almost no way to have them recognise that THIS LIFE MATTERS!

  • this life matters. that IS my point. it matters because this is the only one you get. heck, even if xtians are right, this is STILL the only life you get. why? because either you worship yhwh forever, or suffer w/o yhwh. this is the only chance we get to be who we truly are. live your life to your own satisfaction, or that will be your regret on your deathbed, THAT will be you hell.

  • when you say "all right" iam guessing you mean what he said was "all good"

    Matthew 5:40

And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. 41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.

More bad advice. There's no good reason to set yourself up as an easily abused victim. A wise god would have taught people how to build a fair and cooperative society that didn't encourage victimization.

  • you obvioius have no idea what you are talking about. In the sermon on the mount jesus gives advise on how to live, in there those 3 quotes I put up are. I was pointing out how "ludicrous" it is for a god to give such horribly bad advise, " give all your belongings to the poor and live like the homeless while preaching the word of god". there is absolute nothing there that says 'free will' is lost, he is saying "this is what jesus would do" and if it does in your mind then why did he say that?

  • Have you read what Muhammad taught? Or what was said about Brahma? Or any other religion? They are all man made religions. They have nothing to do with the universe.

  • If you say so. Metaphor eludes the most geneius of scientists.

  • At 4:30 I noticed that the clip atached to the screwdriver looked like it was affected by gravitational force (would swing freely in zero-G environment)

Do you think that was taken on Earth or is there something I'm missing?

  • Ya I assume that was footage of the test procedure on earth. I doubt there was a camera watching him do it in space

  • good point. thought that it might be but just wanted to point it

  • It's hard to believe such a fantastic mission exists. Bravo, Hubble!

  • Spaceflight rules!!!

  • FFS, who votebots Hubble vids?

  • The same people who would rather have us back in the dark ages, believing that the earth is the centre of the universe and that evolution never occurred.

  • Sad but true. Maybe we can send chiseled stone tablets...perhaps that would appease them.

  • Who can ever claim that evolution never happened? Chlorobacteria? xD

  • 3:00 a NASA scientist learning on Wikipedia?

  • rofl, wikipedia :P

  • So, what did you do today?

"Oh not much, just went to OUTER SPACE and fixed a telescope traveling at 18,000 mph."

thank you NASA/ESA for expanding human knowledge.

  • Hubble FTW!!

  • very cool vid!

  • I love the narrator's accent.

  • I love you freethinker

  • dude I almost cry watchin this vid

  • These guys are true heroes. Both, the ones on ground and the astronauts.

  • Thank you FFreeThinker!

  • THIS VIDEO FUCKIN ROCKS!

  • The image quality is fantastic.

HD mode didn't work so well though.

  • what nebula is that at 4:00?

  • can anyone tell me the name of that Nebula at 4:00?

  • Quite the "Eye in the Sky" we've built!

  • i kinda hope they let Hubble live another decade if not more.

  • hehe, "use of brute force"... like "the jetsons meet the flintstones", hehe

  • *sigh* this is the only kind of thing that makes me proud to be human instead of scared shitless

  • it makes me proud to be part of the human species to watch vids like this... keep it real Hubble.

How some people can't see that this randomness (e.g @ 4:00) as more amazing than religion is beyond me!?!

  • I completely agree!

  • * * * * *

  • Fantastic. I hope Hubble can continue to provide us with interesting imagery of the universe a little while longer now!

  • we are lucky to live in such a time period, where the transition from science fiction to science fact is taking place, we can now teleport particles and molecules..science is great

  • I would like to live in such a time period were BFG-9000 is an actual weapon and hunting down fundies is legal again >=-D,

  • ... yes, what a wonderful world, hunting & murdering people for their 'beliefs' ...

  • If we haven't invented warp drive and haven't cloned kickass non-avian theropod dinos then our current tech-level is far behind critical-AWESOME point! xD

  • Im watching these Hubblecasts like football!

    YEAH! HUBBLE!!!!

  • what happens if space debris hits hubble? has it evr happened?

  • Yes, I think it happens. Search google for something like 'space debris and hubble telescope'. I found a few pages about the subject.

  • what an age we live in huh :)

and to think of the possibilitys 20/30 years from now.........

  • Are they just going to replace it next time?

  • Look up the "James Webb Space Telescope"

  • As much as Hubble has seen compared to previous telescopes, the next generation of space telescopes are suppose to dwarf it's accomplishments.

  • Wowza, I've seen some of it's pictures and they are so awesome!

I can't wait for the next one's technology.

  • Amazing images in HD! Exciting!

  • The first image on here of the space shuttle lifting off is absolutely beautiful in my opinion.

  • Anybody know what's going to happen to the telescope after it's past it's use?

I realize that getting it down could prove to be expensive, but it really is a triumph of space exploration and general civilization progress so leaving it to drift would seem like a shame.

  • I believe they will do it the same way they normally do:

Let it burn up in the atmosphere and the remaining bits splash down in the atlantic.

  • Science will fly you to into space, religion will fly you into a building.

  • excellent point :0

  • Very true.

  • Thats a great quote man, very true

  • yep because sciense always strive to learn everything, while religion act like they are the one who knew everything.

  • yes, thank you for repeating the analysis everyone saw wit in the first few seconds of seeing the comment. Scientists, by the way. I don't know what a 'sciense' is.

  • lol sory its a typo, I mean science

  • WE LANDED ON THE MOON!!!!!!!!

  • @XChillX42 SO FUCKING TRUE.

  • a rocket rising away from the ground is somewhat a beauty

  • What is the name of the guy with an accent that does some of the HubbleCasts? He also did the "Eyes on the Sky" documentary.

  • May be "Dr. J" a.k.a. Joe Liske.

Has the same semi-discovery channel voice as this women.

  • 1969: Man to the moon.

2011: Man to the moon, now in High Definition. :)

  • LOLD!

And JESUS CHRIST this video's quality is amazing, especially on the liftoff part.

  • fantastic.

  • Very very cool! ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • JUST amazing ain't it? *sniffs*

  • Great stuff, brilliant pictures.

  • Beautiful as always. Thanks. =)

  • Hubble forever

  • hahaha brute force solved one of the problems :P i tell ya it always works whit brute force :P

  • The hubble telescope don't prove a thing. God is the source of all life. Your eternal soul would do well to accept that!

    [lol]

  • BRUTE FORCE FTW!

  • Nice

  • kewl

  • I Love Hubble!

  • So whats gonna happen to it now? I mean will they crash it into the atmosphere after it finally dies?

  • Yep, they're workiing on a new version though.

  • cant they bring it down and sell it on ebay, i want it in my garden

  • I had tickets for this launch, but the original launch date was moved, so I missed it. *frown*

I only live 40 min south of Cape Kennedy on the coast, so I can see most of the launches from my front door.

  • cool!

  • I used to live in Titusville, it's right across the river and a great spot to watch from. It's really the only reason to ever be in Titusville, ever.

  • next time move to a place where the launch is litterlly infront of your door XD

  • It was as close as you can get without buying a ticket.

  • That is so awesome. You're really lucky

  • xxdjsethxx cast major heal on hubble for 19000k hp ... w00t hubble ftw

  • Big thanks for posting this.
