  • Wow awesome studio guys!

  • Beautifull neve console

  • Anyone know what type of microphone he's using...It looks like one of the Neumann series but i'm not sure

  • Neumann U87, and Neve console......

  • 1:25 was AWESOME!!!! sounded like the fray :)

  • welcome to the world of professional producers :)

the way they get the hits is by being that picky, at the end of the day, if it gets the vocals sounding good, its all good

  • yeah I agree

  • Neve!!! wow

  • is that in Rhode Island?

  • AND.. what singer wouldnt smash the studio up if every word you sang had to be approved by those two?

  • let the guy sing a few takes to get into it u knob jockeys. how the hell can a singer sing a song of they keep pressing STOP!!!!!

  • I agree, they are destructive to the creative process

  • You need to turn up the slider that says "Balls". Just playing

  • jake posner + jake coco = awesome

    doug's pretty cool too

  • I heard the engineer say its a hard punch. They're on a computer, why would they ever punch in when they can simply copy and paste? Must be new to software editing.

  • The way it worked with tape (as you may or may not know) is that you didn't have endless possibilities for endless takes. If it wasn't good you dumped it. I guess that's the way they still work but now in a a DAW environment.

  • Well that's the thing, the industry doesn't work that way and it seems like they're doing things the hard way which wastes allot of studio time. btw, I still use tape for certain instruments; mainly strings.

  • Think about it. Taking the time to get it right once, or go through a hundred takes to get the best possible comp. Might as well comp on the spot. That will save you time.

  • I work in Nashville. We waste very little time. Why re-invent the wheel and who cares if you get it right in one pass. This would never go over in a million dollar studio.

  • This would and it does more so than anywhere else. You say it's wasting time, who can tell there were or weren't? This might have been the end of the first day of a two day session.

I've been in multimillion dollar studio's where the engineer took a long time to get the sound right, recorded two takes and mixed down in 1 hour (for a commercial record).

A different engineer in the same studio took more time to comp.

I'm sure you know there are no rules in music, just guidelines.

  • By 'get it right once' I didn't mean one pass but an artists performance will be best around the first hour. Taking your time to get it right when the performance is best is simply playing it smart, not hastily.

  • True.

  • Nice voice.

  • awesome! keep it up dude

  • okay, you are turning me into a hard-core Jake Coco fan. This is not necessarily a bad thing, mind you. It's just now I start looking for the next new thing on my list, and actually feel disappointed if there's nothing there from you! I should be writing, I'VE GOT DEADLINES! And instead, I'm doing THIS!! *head-desk*

  • My best friend is a singer and I've spent many a night in the recording studio. It's a fun experience.
