This is before my time, I only watched it out curiosity as it has a rep for being really racist, but after watching a few episodes if anything it portrays racism as negative and bourne of ignorance. That's what I got from it anyway.
i think what they didn't realise was the black guy gave as good as he got, yet everyone still laughed, stupid political correctness, its not like its preaching prejudice towards either side..
..as a child of Jamaican parents I believe we enjoyed it. I can see now what my parents must have gone through. It makes makes me very proud to be British watching stuff like this as obviously this satire was use to break down + poke fun at racisim and people with prejudices. I think it was a brilliant way to do it (for
that time\!!) It's been years since anyone called me those kinds of names. Now I have children of my own and thanks God things are not as bad for them.

Lots of fun. I haven't seen this since I was a kid in Glasgow. I guess it's just a bit out of keeping for these times today. But it seems to me that the racist taunts worked both ways here. They were pretty equal opportunity about the insults. Cheers all.
i was a young kid when this aired its a brilliant series,i believe the government are to blame for making people racist by all the political corectness,i`m 43 and i always say i wish my kids could have grown up in the 70`s they were much better and happier days
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This is truly terrible. I bet every comment on this is from white person. True, things have gotten out of hand with regards to political correctness but this is disgraceful...even if it is the 70s.............. Everything about this show is from white person's perspective...Vince Powell who wrote this went on to write bottle boys and that was as equally offensive even without the racism.
Who on earth are you talking to.....idiot??.....so I can't have an opinion you don't agree with.....in your small mind it's fun but for people who see beyond name calling it's racist.....now take your cock out your hand and go back to school....
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
even the bits that are supposedly taking the piss out of the white man are just there so the white fella can shout sambo or wog or some other racist shit - which sadly appealed to the humour of your average joe from the 70's..they had an excuse..they were ignorant as society wasnt as multi cultered as it is today. you live in a world where its been shown how distressing name calling like this can be and still find it funny? you my friend are quite obviously a massive tit...
It was a comedy show, very funny in its day. Get it back on TV, turn over if you don't like it. there's plenty of other chanels to watch these days not just 3 as then to choose from.
HaHa a bit of old fun . Nig nog Honkey wog and snow drop sambo Whitey . Can you believe these silly names used to offend adults . My god funny is funny , Its a good job that weve all moved on
The only reason these haven't been repeated is because of the 'politically correct brigade' please note this series was very popular with black communities because the white man always had his come-uppance. (Very popular in Nigeria currently!)
The series wasn't racist, just the 'Eddie Booth' character who made a fool of himself each week. Watch and learn. These days free speech is a thing of then past, so no - it won't be aired on ITV again, a bit old fashioned perhaps but still very funny.
The irony for all those people saying the show (and by extension Britain) was racist is that Rudolph Walker was awarded best comedy actor after the first season
well it's not exactly racist to the point of where both characters are making fun of each other. the irony is that eddie is always the insufferable one. so if anyone thinks this is highly racist and takes offense then they really dont know the meaning of satire.
As the show was very racist and bigoted it was funny and it addressed the views of Britsh society at that time, just like All in the family did in America! Nig- Nog sounds less vuglar and degarding than Nigger! I hate the word Nigger and i dislike Nig - Nog! I love british television as it is honest and funny in a different way Long Live the Royal Crown of Cunard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was about 10 or 11 when this aired in England...was never quite sure why my Dad used to laugh at this....Now I howl at how the "political corectness police" would handle a comedy such as this... God help us...where did our sense of humours go??????
you know they watch this in africa today! they know how to laugh and it shows that theyre both as racist as each other, if he (ffightingorque) wants to use that sort of political jargon. ive never seen this till today, but me and my MULTI RACIAL family love it! hilarious stuff that should be used today! so he can bugger off and get a life lol.
Nothing wrong with black people, i think every white man should have one. This was one of the best comedies of the 70,s problem was that white dogooders thought that it might hurt our black brothers hearts so they got it banned.
...but if white trash had played fair then he would have found that nig nog was outside of the shop first and thus would have rightly got the bed.....typical whitey, they just can't be trusted and are cheats. Nig nog was out for justice and nothing else.
why do we live in a nappy land this is not racist when black white whatever do jokes at each other thats what it is comedy other wise they would have not worked on set together in the first place so what does the law really mean its simple jokes are illegal
all you people with the comments that it's racist get a life yes whites make jokes about sambo's because it was set in England in the 70's just like wogs, spades, shovelheads etc that's the way it was they knew there place....
obviously if you just concentrate on a couple of lines then it is going to seem racist. the idea behind these kind of shows (goodness gracious me and east is east got a similar mixed response) is too laugh at racisim rather then fight over it.
I am in shock that i used to laugh at this as a child. I'm even more in shock that my elders used to laugh at this though. They should have known better! DISCRACEFUL!!!
They probably laughed because the show's writer typically balanced it out with the the 'nig nog' winning. I'm quite sure they wouldn't take to people saying stuff like "another victory to white power!" and "you bloody nig-nog" now, though!
It's humour of 'this sort' that makes black kids fucking hate whites nowadays.
that's a load of bollocks, have u had a black kid calling u honkey or white trash...I very much doubt so. As u can see in this show they're taking satirical approach of political correctness & above all racism.
