  • BRUTAL!!!!!!!!

  • Once you start transcribing Metheny, you begin to realize the truly immense depth of his genius.

  • I don't know wheater Pat Metheny could do this vice versa.

  • Incredible, extremely well done!

  • amaging!!!!!

  • Idk why, but thats so awesome how you playing at 2:00 matches EXACTLY how Pat Metheny is playing it and it all blends together beautifully into this one part. Awesome transcribing man! :D

  • metheny's tone actually sounds like a recorder anyway

  • Wonderful!!

  • You Nailed it, Great Job!!!

  • You are too much! Great rendition! thumbs Up!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Somehow, hearing the solo doubled makes it more legible to me, and I was able to discern some of the intervals that usually whizz by my ears. Great work. Thanks.

  • Awesome solo in general but the lick at 2:14 to 2:19 has to be one of the funkiest lines I've ever heard.

  • O M G Super!

  • Wow, quite an accomplishment to be right there with Pat. Interesting also that the recorder can mimic the guitar's range.

  • beautiful playing man,really beautiful.

  • Excellent! What a trip. And with right hand on top!

  • Grandioso!! Impressionant. Une démonstration d'énorme musicalité!

  • I've never seen so technical recorder performance!

    And sound very charm ♪

  • really really great playing man!

  • EXCELLENT THIS IS SO ORIGINAL!

  • This is C A R A Z Y ! ! ! WOWOWOOWOW

  • He's playing backwards. Right hand should be on the bottom.

  • haha that's funny

  • Absolutely stunning musicianship - well done!

  • hohe musikalische Qualität

  • Just fantasitic !!!

  • Sick.

  • it's... how to say... Well, I have just one word: AMAZING!

  • nice!!! =)

  • It's immaculate...

  • I´ve never seen sth like that before... You´re awesome!

  • Dude, you need to go pro!!!!

  • eccezzionale!!

  • whats with people grasping at straws over him playing left handed? since when do people digitally mirror videos? what program even has that feature? why in gods name would he do that? its really simple, hes either playing a regular recorder and not using the low F# and G# or he has a left handed recorder which seems very likely since he plays the instrument professionally...

  • from his website:

"Keyless recorders with double-holes upside-down (recorders for lefthanders)."

  • Left handed recorder?????????? Just turn the tail joint the other way!

  • well, actually most video programs in existence have that feature, but yes, I see your point.

  • wow...this is really good

  • there is a such thing as a left handed flute and sax...

  • Man, this guy is AWESOME. Someone send this to Metheny. I know he would dig it!

  • have any of you guys notices that he is playing with his hands backwards?!

  • omg i hope they just. mirrored the vid...!

  • yea thats what i thought too put theres a video where he is playing live with some kind of steel drum band, and his hands are still backwards! thats crazy because he will never will be able to play any other intstrument. unless hes really talented.

  • His website confirms that he plays left-handed on recorders made specifically for left-handers.

  • this is kinda stupid... considering the fine motor skills (is it that in english?) it does not matter whether you play it left or right hand up. maybe he is some kind of genious who got to bored just playing the recorder in the normal way :)

  • super

  • man, that's unbelievable

  • can one play so on a plastic flute?

    is it sopran?

    thanks

  • Woa! nice!

  • oh, man. thats unbelievable. your phrasing und and your confindence in playing those hard lines is breathtaking. seems like you have really spend a lot of time shedding and checking out this music. keep going

  • This is so great.

  • I think improvisation means being free from anything.

Transcribe sometimes helps, but it will also makes it harder

to being free. At least it took me a long time. I suggest not to transcribe your "most" favorite player. I wish I could explain in better English. Anyway , this guy IS great.

  • Da,m I love Pentatonics lol

  • I am not sure if this is one of the best ways to learn improvisation, yet this guy is great.

  • Actually it is most DEFINATLEY one of the best waays to learn improvisation...... You HAVE to Transcribe. How else would you learn the Language

  • I agree 100%

And it's not all the time *pencil to paper* transcription. Simply takin a chorus of a solo by ear can be great for the fingers, the mind and of course your melodic vocab..People often don't see the benifits of transcription because it takes time for it to get down in your subconscious, whereas you REACT and unconsciously mid improv weave in Pat INSPIRED line into a phrase, as opposed to when you FIRST start doing it, youre consciously runnin LICKS.

    Takes time.

  • Dude, that is FREAKIN' SICK!!!!!!!!!

  • that is truly wonderful. thanks

  • this really shows just how amazing Metheny's phrases are

  • No, it shows just how much free time Benoit Sauve has.

  • only if it also shows how much free time Pat Metheny has. more useful use of free time than playing with youtube!

  • Of course that a left handed is able to play recorder. In this case there are 2 possibilities:

1- The camera is digitally "mirrored".

2- The recorder is specially built for being left handed used.

Plz look at the RE and the DO. The big holes are inverted, cause in right handed recorders we have the big hole of the RE and DO at the right. This guy has got it at his left. I would like to know your process to learn this. Do you read the music or you just play what you listen ?

  • He most likely learned the whole solo by ear and then transcribed it into music notation. After that, if he's not reading it while he's playing, he probably memorized. That how most big jazz musicians learn the solos of the people they listen to.

  • Pretty sure it's memorized. His eyes seem to be closed the whole time.

  • Fantstic - your inspirational and have given me more encouragement to continue practicing

  • maybe hes not left handed. maybe he's got a hidden camera on his shirt and he's looking into a mirror. or maybe he is left handed. if so, it makes it that much more amazing!

  • great ! kamikaze !

  • you de master man !

    biz A+

  • genial!!!

  • inFREAKINcredible!

  • Covered every single note! Even all the nuances! Amazing to watch and hear, Kudos!

  • :O:O:O:O how did you learn the improvization part? :O:O:O great

  • Dude, you've got amazing technique and that's the first time I've heard jazz sound convincing on the recording. Do you play any of your own solos? Also, I didn't know it was possible to play recorder left handed!

  • Very amazing! This is very difficult to do on recorder. This guy is a monster !

  • t'es incoyable

    trop bon.

incroyable. je n peux rien dire.

    merci

  • incredible!!!very good...

  • Is that a flute I hear?

  • no. it's a recorder

  • I wanna hear one with you taking a couple choruses.

  • I'm pretty sure this guy can tear up his fair share of improvised solo's. I don't think I need to see a video to make that estimate.

  • why would you make such a stupid comment?

  • I didn't mean that in a negative way.

  • I didn't mean that in a negative way.

  • OH MY GOD! Dude, this is amazing. Being a sax and EWI player and having dabbled with the recorder from time to time I understand just how difficult this is! Incredible!

  • DUDE

  • Great man!!!

  • Etonnant! Un travail superbe.Enorme niveau musical.

  • Well done. Spot on.

  • OMG, wow, thats dead on.

  • That totally blows my mind-- awesome!

  • respect!!

  • Those are some madd recorder skillz...this makes me actually like the recorder!

  • Excellent,sans paroles.5 etoiles!!

  • Cara tu é fera msm!

  • awesome!

  • that's awesome! great job.

  • very good man! keep on the jazz way!

what recorder are you playing on?

what microfon do you use? is it built in for flutes?
