Actually caffeine changes sleep quality even if it doesn't keep you up at night. So with high caffeine drinks you should not have it 8 hours before bedtime. Yet I think this is based on the caffeine in coffee or soda, and not tea.

As you know the caffeine in tea feels different, and many cultures drink it at all times of the day. I used to drink green tea right before bedtime until my doctor told me to stop. :'(
