In my opinion I believe the term geek is kind of like the word perfect, it's more of a matter of opinion and point of view. In my opinion, I'm a nerd, I'd like to consider myself a geek, I make music, love audio / video production, graphic design, developing / modding / playing games, coding, web design, physics, and a lot of other things. Though I will probably almost never have to use a Mac or Vista or Win 7 in my life other than to fix someone else's computer ^_^
People that are true to there selves are happier then the lemmings that follows others just to try to fit in, if you follow the things you love and do it with a passion whatever they may be people may call you a Geek but better to be a happy Geek then a person with no real loves or passions.
When I watch this kids videos, I do not hear a kid. I hear an intelligent person who explains things through the most easiest way to understand. If anyone who accuses this guy of being a geek, you are just simply close minded. Don't judge some one and how they look or talk, he deserves nothing but respect for helping thousands.

I think another quality of the true geek is also somebody who isn't terribly jaded to one OS over another. They are fair and recognize the benefits of each platform. And they constantly improve themselves and they do not aviod something because its hard for them to understand or because they are afraid of it.
I would consider myself a hardcore computer geek and technology enthusiast. However I would want to rage if somebody insinuated that I was a noob or a wannabe and I was not a geek. I think that it would be highly unjust to imply something like that about me. So I think it was good enough to say that a geek is somebody that TRIES to embrace the different technologies.
Tom I agree mostly with your opinion, however I believe a diehard geek will TRY to be as prolific as possible, however I also agree that people may not always be able to afford system A or system B. For example I have never used a Mac. Though I have ran Linux and Unix. Mac OSX uses the Unix kernel now. I have done support for pc's for 5 years now and have a few cpu certs and I have always blueprinted and built my own from nothing. Computers and technology are my LIFE. Period.

I can cook a really good omlet or a fried egg, that doesn't make me a chef; therefore, it is hard to describe geek in the same instance.
