Reagan was the President of the Screen Actors Guild If you go back 20 years from Reagan's first campaign in 1967 he was an actor and a spokeman for GE with a highly evolved political consciousness and well read.

Case in point #1) Romney will not give amnesty to illegal aliens... #2) He won't raise taxes 7 out of his 8 years in office as Reagan did... and #3) He won't create a new department in the federal government with over 60,000 employees.. and #4) He will not spend more than the government brings in.... Romney left the GOP during the Reagan Presidency, disgusted at Reagan's conservatism, Mitt supported democrats, fund raised democrat, and joined the GOP again in 1993, doing Planned parenthood fundraisers as late as 1994.

Mitt's father ran as the antiwar Presidential candidate against Reagan in 1968.

Mitt was living in France avoiding the draft during that election.

Yes Reagan was a nationally known conservative that left the democrats in 1962. That was before the Vietnam war, Roe /Wade, pro/life movement, the Reagan Revolution, the fall of the USSR, Desert Storm, the Gingrich Revolution, etc.

Romney stayed liberal until it was time to change for the 2008 election. Reagan was never liberal, even as an anticommunist union head testifying in 1947, back when conservatives could also be democrats.

Reagan stayed loyal to the Democrats through The New Deal, Keynesianism & the Supreme Court being stacked with liberals. He was in his 50's in 1962, so youthful indiscretion is no excuse.

Hubert H. Humphrey was a staunch anti-communist, too. Would you argue that he was conservative?

Most Democrats were anti-Communist at that time. That certainly cannot be said today.

However, with regard to Reagan, I think he more than proved his true beliefs during his two-terms as President. He certainly didn't follow the Democratic-line during his Presidency and many of those anti-Communist Democrats from the 1960s' began to rethink this belief and became more sympathetic toward some of these dictators and argued against a strong national defense and US intervention.

No, I do not agree with your point at all. Yes, Reagan was a Democrat at one time. However, Reagan stated that he didn't leave the party, the party left him.

Many people are leaving the RNC, thus why the "independent vote" grows with each election. People like Romney and other RINOs' are the reason for this and as long as the RNC proceeds with this ' big tent ' strategy many current Republicans will also choose to go independent.
