The problem is the financial support in order to build the replica of this lost National Treasure; a $50 mil. project. Over the past 30+ years most of the research work has been completed. Giddeon Wells was saddened to see the Old Waggon be scrapped after abuse and neglect. It's a shame we lost the First Ship of the U.S. Navy.

Your "Philadelphia 2007" photo is incorrect. That is Virginia 1991. Photos from this period are well documented in the group on Yahoo called "The SS United States Group".

sadly, the NCL isn't going to put the SSUS back to service. They are full of lies. They promised to put the Norway back to service, but sold her illegally to India, where she's being torn apart right now. She's nearly gone, thanks to NCL. They have been promising to restore the SSUS for so many years, but they never took action. If they were really planning to do it, they would have done it a long time ago. They got rid of the SS Independence too

@USF1797: If the Navy was into SOFT POWER this liner would be a great flagship
it represents the USA at it's pinnacle. It should be the USS United States instead it is sad a rust bucket.

I should note that her proper title is S.S. United States, not U.S.S. United States...
