I once chased a gasser-Spektrum glitch for many weeks, adding ferrite cores and shielding braids everywhere to no avail. Finally found out it was due to the use of a spark-plug that did not have the "resistor" feature. (usually symbol "R" in spark-plug type numbers)
Make sure theirs no poor connection because the prop making the air waves bounce the signal around iv had problems like that i looked at that and its better now but i lost the plane due to sudden't storms shame ....
yeah spectrum is just CRAPi am having problems with my dx6i not just loss of signal but also parts are literaly falling off of it so i switched to hitec aurora 9 it is awesome!!!
@jameshoffmandude I had tons of lockout with the Aurora 9 and so did several people at my local field. Funny how experiences are different in different areas. Spectrum has been rock solid for me.
An added note to the previous statement. If you increase the engine RPM does the interference remain or does it go away? If it goes away then the interference will be at low frequencies and at higher frequencies due to higher RPMs the interference should go away. The only thing that I could suggest is an RF choke on the ignition, I don't know if this is used in practice but it should help preventing ignition frequencies from riding on the transmitter signals and locking out the receiver.
Since the receiver is doing this and not even in the plane, it is possible for the engine to emit what is called HF (Harmonic Frequencies) which can interfere with the receiver. Remember that the spark plug is not firing all the time but only when the ignition system is in demand and this would be in a digital frequency and with that would come the harmonic frequencies spawned off the original. So my question is how far away can you get the receiver from the aircraft before interference begins?
Check all of your controls. If you have any metal to metal contact. In other words if your throttle cable is metal and you use a metal to metal control horn this will cause your problem. Just because we use 2.4 does not mean we are immune to interference. I do not know how this rumor got started but it is not true. If you have a long metal control rod and it is metal to metal. In essence it is a big antenna.
E-mail me at willig10@yahoo.com and we can discuss the issue.
JR and spectrum receivers run best on a 2s LiPo make sure to have a regulator be cause some servos cant handle the 7 volts. regulator put out 6volts to receiver.
i was reading that 2.4s usually have interference because of noise sources because i know many people who use the DX6 with props or edfs and havent had interference but on gas powered they are louder so thats what im thinking.
What is the brand of motor and type of ignition IE Coil or electronic. It is my understanding that If you have a coil you could reproduce what I see here by distance from the coil and angle or bleed over, However if this is a electronic ignition Its the first time Ive ever seen this. It looked to me that you have a nicad or nimh bat on that system, you can not use those or you will get a brown out, but that has nothing to due with your problem here.
At the moment the spark jumps the gap it causes a high frequency burst of energy, this is known as RFI. Placing a resistor within the spark plug suppresses the RFI. Without resistor plugs you will experience static on your radio as well as interference with other sensitive electronic equipment.
The types of plugs common to "weed-wacker" motors use what are called "Non-Resistor" plugs.
The shielding of the wires and top of the plug does not make any difference.
ohh come no dude i have spectrum since it first came to the market and i fly 2.60 planes with this, My opinion is that your Receiver has a problem from the factory just test your remote with another receiver and you will see that it works !
Several guys in are local club including myself have spent a lot of time working on Spektrum Problems. (All educated EE's and RF Engineers) We have presented our data to Spektrum. All to have Spektrum say it’s not their fault.. What BULL S..T. I tell you if I hear one more time from their support people that it’s a power problem on our side I will spit fire! I am totally done with them! Period! All new students that I get will be told not purchased DSM2 stuff.
Hi Billy d, I had the same problem. After a lot of trouble shooting i found the Problem.
it was theVoltage Regulator! When you fire it up, your pulling to much voltage to fire the plug, The voltage drops, and the receiver go shuts down. Try changing the regulator. make sure you have a different battery for your ign. also make sure you have at least 2 cell 7.4 battery i suggest 2 of them. let me know bro.
the gas engine does. it is the coil lead or spark plug. there is nothing wrong with your rx. change your spark plug to a very good high qaulity one. from experiance of the same problem. gary
Doesn't seem to be just you guys and gas planes that have had problems with spectrum I've lost four edf s due to spectrum lockouts!! flying around nicely then from nowhere full throttle downwards no control whatsoever.....if you like your models don't use this junk....! Or your planes will be digging holes....
@tuckwellr1 that would be a hold and make sure you don't run the connecting wires to the receivers near power cables to the battery. And its not junk all my JR and spectrum 2.4 radios and receivers are solid must be something you are doing wrong or just kind of check around your radio to make sure no loose wires.
If the spark plug doesnt have enough resistance then it will emit all frequencies of stray RFI. If it has a a CM-6 already then check the gaps. make sure its new, or chuck the engine in ze garbajhh
am stuck now i dont know what to do but am really scared to get airborne with spectrum.after 4 bad crashes.it keeps loosing signal for few seconds.i will send my piece of the rubbish back to spektrum for check up and doubt it i 'll fly with spektrum again.arghhhh :(
Hi Sir.. i got the same problem. I dont know why the AR6200 not compatible for gas engine. but the manual book says this product is compatible with any kind of Airplane. my plane is Rearwind Speedster 1/5 scale with CRRC Pro 26cc. so i change the RX with AR7000. then the problem solve. After 3 minute flying suddenly i lost all signal for the TX AR7000 and Crash in to the Ground.! it Hurts because is Maiden Flight! My Freind told me i have to use AR9000. for Gas Engine.! What a PIece of Junk!
@kukikunyuk You are correct, gas engines put out lots of stray signals from the ignition systems spark advance. interference across multi spectrums is not uncommon. Use the AR9000 and be done with it. also make sure you use hard rubber mounts on the engine.
@WizzRacing thanks for your advices. but i don't wanna fly Gasoline plane any more even using an AR9000.. still don't believe with any Spektrum RX for flying an Gasoline plane. Cause last Crash Cost me a lot...
If you can find one at a auto parts store, try an in-line filter on your spark plug lead. These were used to filter ignition noise which cased radio (&TV) interferrence. One of the guys in our club is have the same problem with the Spektrum radio. I don't recall anyone having that problem with the FM radios. So much for Spektrum being bullit-proof. (I still use FM)
The servo was located about 300mm from the engine and connected via a plastic sleeved metal pushrod with a metal on metal z-bend link at the engine side.
I GOT A CALL BACK TODAY FROM HORIZON. THEY HAVE MY DX-7 AND SOME OF MY RXS AND FLAT OUT TOLD ME IN 100 WAYS THAT THERE Spektrum DID NOT FAIL AND IT WAS MY FAULT! I WOULD RECOMMEND, NOT TO USE OR BUY ANY Spektrum OR J.R. PRODUCTS.
drill and tap a hole in your spark plug thin put a glow pug in the hole that you drilled and taped in the plug it should run if it has enough compression
Well I have some bad news... I "thought" I fixed the problem. But it got hit and I put it straight into the ground. I don't know if i can fix this one... that sucks too it flew so sweet. got to start something new now..
is it all sorted now billy with the old plug, I'm concerned as I am doing the same thing as you, but using a futaba 6ex, just finished making a tuned pipe, welding 0.8mm alu is not fun, but makes for a light pipe, regds from Ireland
Well Horizon tried to help me but I got it on my own. I had 3 brand new resister spark plugs and they all did the same thing. Put the old plug in and it was fine.
Hi Billy you can get a low voltage cutout copacitor from horizonhobby for about $6.00,which spektrum brought out for this sort of thing, check them out mate and let us all know how you get on please, good luck 5*
wonder if it would take out the radio of other planes nearby, lol.....spectrum jammer technology?...too wierd. im curious how far away that engine could be and still wig out a spectrum radio.
But they tell me at horizonhobby this can not happen or will not happen with a 2.4g ????? iI sent the video the horizonhobby. will see if they respond.
doesnt matter just because 2.4 says 2.4 it is still a freguenvy and can still be hit its rare but its happend to be witha unbalanced prop causing a vibration
I'll be suprised if horizon replies. If they do, please tell us what they suggest. I would consider this a warranty issue if their product does not perform in the way they claim it's supposed to in plain text on their website. But if you've tried different spectrum equipment and it still doesnt work, you defenitely don't need a replacement, you need a refund they will probably never give you. Good luck, this is a tough one!
I would have no idea but i thank you so much about bringing this prblem up because i plan on trying to get a 1/3 scale cub and i would want anything going wrong while at Joe Nall 2010 and someone or something getting hurt bad and my plane get crushed.

Forget all the vibration ideas! The fact that it's doing it half a metre away from the plane proves that.
I would say the condenser on that spark ignition motor is the culprit! Or it may be EMR from the HT ignition.
Try a ferrite choke clipped to the plug lead.
Failing that, get an old school radio, that isn't packed with UARTS and microcontrollers!
