I've been really annoyed in other games for dying randomly, but not in this game. It's such a great piece of game design, and lots of challenge and fun.
This is the only time in my entire life I have cursed not having a console. I long for this game like no other ever before. A PC port would be like the second coming of Jesus Christ.
@Hazamarth I'm aware of it. I've signed it. Doesn't mean they'll do it though, only that they're carefully considering the option. Which is indeed good. Word around is that it's more likely they'll make the next game available for PC instead of porting Demon Souls.
@Darkfrezzy The game isn't for people who don't like that you die infinitely many times before you win. Its insanely difficult, and there ARE NO DIFFICULTY SETTINGS, at least until you beat the game, then it just gets harder. It also isnt for people who dislike losing almost everything good about your person if you fall off a cliff because there is no lighting. You have to figure out everything for yourself, and it is insanely challenging, but it is EXTREMELY addictive and it is VERY fun. Try it
@BobbyMcFray Dark Souls isn't difficult as people makes it appear to be, by all means. It's completely trial and error. You'll eventually get to a level where everything is a walk in the park. The only thing this game requires is that you have patience, enjoy the atmosphere and ofc the amazing gameplay.
@MrSloopful Exactly, I really don´t see why many make such exaggerations about this game and Demons souls. The gameplay feels fresh and the game forces you to discover things on your own (but there are many clues of what to do), but if you learn the combat system this game is easy but always enjoyable. In my opinion the best game of 2011, and one of the best games I ever played, Mp needs a little more work, many use the same armors, weapons and spells and classes are very similar.
@130390roy Indeed, also feckin lagstabs ruining PvP, they should really make some changes in a sequel, if they ever make one. The game itself is simple: You die, you realize what u done wrong, you try not to do it, then you either succeed or die again and try another time. It's not that complex, but as you said, the gameplay is very enjoyable and the atmosphere is really good.

It's dark, atmospheric, the story is epic and deep, but difficult to decipher and the compat is balanced to perfection. This game is truly great in almost every aspect. If it were for pc then it would be my pc GOTY. :)
Don't argue about which is better, skyrim or dark souls, they're both great games okay? Skyrim has a lot more interaction and you're free to do pretty much whatever you want. Just because it's easier doesn't mean it's a worse game. They're both awesome and I love them.
Why are people complaining about the graphics? They're great, and the scale of the world is fucking amazing. Wanna bright colors and perfect textures? Go play Uncharted and let us with the real thing to real gamers.

@joshbaggy1 That's exactly how it was for me, especially when it came to the Four Kings. Though, I will say that I still find Skyrim a bit fun, but my character is just too overpowered to find much enjoyment when I seek a challenge.

I think the Idea of saying " oh you must like COD" Is more along the lines of mindless and easy game play.
Like Monster Hunter "most" but not all of the people who directly hate this game, usually do so because it was to hard for them and rather then just saying it, they blame the game itself.
You really know you like a game when you die to the same boss five times in a row, start swearing and saying you'll never play it again... And then traverse the white light immediately afterwards.
Skyrim is a good game and because of the fact it user freindy and will no doubt have an absurd amount of dlcs it was named GOTY, HOWEVER dark souls is the purest sense of what a good game should be. Chalenging but not too unforgiving(with the exception being the silver knights on the roof in Anor Londo) and your rewarded with a sense of acomplishment and a heack of an adrenalin rsh. So yes, for us dark souls is the best game. If Skyrim wasent their im 110% positive Dark Souls would be.

@blackskull2k why is combat system bad? In my oppinion it is far better than the system in Skyrim (as an example) where the enemy hardly react when you hit them and don't really seem to react to what moves you are doing at all.
And graphics? C'mon, graphics is not what all people look for in games. A game can have great graphics but no good gameplay at all. Still a good game? I don't think so :) But this is just my oppinion.

Hey, PC gamers, please if you like Dark Souls go to google type there "dark souls petition" and click on the first link. Please vote for Dark Souls to be released for PC. This petition may actually work as even administrator of the game [Dark Souls] give us that idea. :) Like so everyone can see this :)

@WillyWallace100 Well Flamelurker is just pure, un-distilled brokenness. That fight was such a bitch. But I still died more in Demon Soul's then in Dark Souls. Bosses, for one thing, are much, much easier. I just took down NG+ Sif without dying, full melee. Both are still very challenging games, though.
Dark Souls is not a hack'n' slash. Dark souls is also not purely an rpg. Combat is responsive, action-based and real time. It's very realistic in that way.
You can level grind to make Dark Souls easier if you aren't as good of a player, but you don't need to. This game is based mostly on skill- so much so that even highly skilled low levels with enough determination can complete it. (Unlike in some rpgs, where random hit chance dictates who wins a fight.)
I beat Demon's Souls. . . now I'm working on Dark Souls. For anyone who doesn't know, Dark Souls is open-world, with tons of hidden areas. There's a lot of loot, and a lot of it is completely unique. It is all very cool.
You can summon other online people into your world, or join their worlds. Or, you can invade people to attack them. You can also join covenants (like online clans) which give you special loot and abilities.
@ratowar im more to a open world game, where you can walk around and explore... but every time i see a dark soul gameplay, its in tiny corridors and castles... is it open world sandbox, where you can walk around and do whatever you want??
@anonimatox123 The Giant Depraved ones killed me twice. That was it. Besides, I used the Meat Cleaver the whole game, I knew its move set. There is a thing called running to dry land.
And I wore the theif's ring the whole game as well. And those ledges were still hell.

@anonimatox Lol, really? Please. Gloom Armor made that place a cakewalk. I didn't get poisoned once. And the bosses were so easy.
@whiteganser Problem is, getting to the Lordvessel is easy enough. I only had trouble on the dynamic duo and even they eventually fell. And why would I go back to Firelink? Just kindle the flame in the start of a new area and you're fine. The worst thing about going back to the Nexus was that you had to redo the entire section. There were no checkpoints.
@PurpleIsAmazin The bosses getting to the Lordvessel weren't hard, Smaugh and the other one, but just getting past those archers on the roof... fuck that was impossible.

@batteryarmor I dunno about you, but I found both Flamelurker and the False King incredibly broken. And while it did get easy, the bosses in particular being pathetic, the first area of SoS was horrible, all those tiny ledges with swarms of Storm Beasts, urgh. Valley of Defilement was pretty bad too.

i passed dark souls right now :D
it took me about 5 times to beat the last boss but i finally got him, my hands were shaking and i was so nervous.
i chose the dark lord ending because i know thats the right choise, to end the age of fire (age of gods) and start the age of dark(age of man)

@blackskull2k why is combat system bad? In my oppinion it is far better than the system in Skyrim (as an example) where the enemy hardly react when you hit them and don't really seem to react to what moves you are doing at all.
And graphics? C'mon, graphics is not what all people look for in games. A game can have great graphics but no good gameplay at all. Still a good game? I don't think so :) But this is just my oppinion.

@WillyWallace100 Well Flamelurker is just pure, un-distilled brokenness. That fight was such a bitch. But I still died more in Demon Soul's then in Dark Souls. Bosses, for one thing, are much, much easier. I just took down NG+ Sif without dying, full melee. Both are still very challenging games, though.

Dark Souls is not a hack'n' slash. Dark souls is also not purely an rpg. Combat is responsive, action-based and real time. It's very realistic in that way.
You can level grind to make Dark Souls easier if you aren't as good of a player, but you don't need to. This game is based mostly on skill- so much so that even highly skilled low levels with enough determination can complete it. (Unlike in some rpgs, where random hit chance dictates who wins a fight.)

I beat Demon's Souls. . . now I'm working on Dark Souls. For anyone who doesn't know, Dark Souls is open-world, with tons of hidden areas. There's a lot of loot, and a lot of it is completely unique. It is all very cool.
You can summon other online people into your world, or join their worlds. Or, you can invade people to attack them. You can also join covenants (like online clans) which give you special loot and abilities.

And I wore the theif's ring the whole game as well. And those ledges were still hell.

@anonimatox Lol, really? Please. Gloom Armor made that place a cakewalk. I didn't get poisoned once. And the bosses were so easy.
@whiteganser Problem is, getting to the Lordvessel is easy enough. I only had trouble on the dynamic duo and even they eventually fell. And why would I go back to Firelink? Just kindle the flame in the start of a new area and you're fine. The worst thing about going back to the Nexus was that you had to redo the entire section. There were no checkpoints.

@batteryarmor I dunno about you, but I found both Flamelurker and the False King incredibly broken. And while it did get easy, the bosses in particular being pathetic, the first area of SoS was horrible, all those tiny ledges with swarms of Storm Beasts, urgh. Valley of Defilement was pretty bad too.
